Page 1 St. Benedict Faith Day St. Benedict staff and students took the time to celebrate faith in authentic ways. Students, along with their champion buddies made sandwiches for the less fortunate, prayed together, read letters from their teachers, wrote letter to their future selves and created beautiful rosaries. This was a great way for everyone to get in touch with their faith and explore ways in which we can remind ourselves of it every day. St. Matthew students support Ryan’s Well Foundation Grade 2 and 3 students from St. Matthew took on a very special Lenten project where students contributed positive change in the world. Students decided to host a delicious bake sale with all proceeds going back to the Ryan’s Well Foundation. Students also created posters that were placed around their school and made daily announcements to help educate their community about the importance of water and how each of us can help support our world. Students raised more than $200 to donate to the foundation who will continue to provide access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene education in some of the poorest regions of developing countries. Great work St. Matthew! APRIL 24, 2019

All Saints student qualifies for National Poetry Competition All Saints poet, Peniel Negre, was chosen out of hundreds of poets nation-wide to attend the National Poetry in Voice competition in Winnipeg in the bilingual category. Her performance of a French poem was selected out of hundreds of submissions. Poetry in Voice is a national poetry recitation competition where students need to memorize and perform a poem from a pre-selected list. Thanks to Tyler Perry, CT of English, for organizing his department so that every English student had a chance to participate in the Poetry and Voice competition and thanks to Mike Bolder at All Saints for being a great host to all the poets taking part in the provincial finals.

Deaf and hard of hearing skill shop Through the funding of the Calgary and Area Regional Collaborative Service Delivery (RCSD), students from the Calgary Catholic School District, Calgary Board of Education and RCSD regions came together on March 14 to cook, play and make new friends. CCSD had 40 students from grades 1-8 and over 60 parents attend. Learners had the opportunity to decorate their hearing equipment, snap a photo in the photo booth, decorate their own apron, cook lunch with Poppy Innovations and practice circus performing with Green Fools. Parents were also able to learn about neuroscience, build brains and connect with community agencies, service providers, and fellow parents. This was a great day for all the parents, students, staff and volunteers that helped make this day possible.

St. Angela students spend a week at the Mustard Seed Thanks to the 2018 Bishop’s Dinner, the Calgary Catholic School District received funding in support of their Campus Calgary/Open Minds program. As a result, a group of Grade 3 and 4 students from St. Angela School were able to attend the Mustard Seed’s SEEDschool Program the week of March 4, 2019. Students learned about poverty, homelessness and social issues. On Ash Wednesday, students also attended Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral where they met and interviewed a parish priest. They learned about the work of Feed the Hungry and toured the hall which included a tour of the kitchen and the huge fridge.

Quest Theatre’s artists visit Our Lady of Lourdes Throughout the week of March 18-22, all the students of Our Lady of Lourdes (grades 1-9) participated in the Quest Theatre’s Artists in School Residency Program. In this program, students build creativity, critical thinking, risk taking and collaborative skills regardless of the focus of the content. The week long residency at Our Lady of Lourdes focused on virtues and the activities the students were involved with complimented teaching social skills through the Fine Arts. Special thanks goes to the Calgary Catholic Education Foundation for providing the grant to pay for this opportunity.
