Archbishop Flores Charity Benefit Dinner-Dance

Knights of Columbus #4577 and the Catholic Daughters Court #1959 will again host the annual Archbishop Flores Charity Benefit Dinner-Dance at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 6320 Madden Lane on Saturday, December 5, 2015. All the proceeds from this year’s event will go to OLMC School. Tickets are $25 each. Dinner will be served from 6:00 - 7:30 PM and dance from 8:00 PM - 1:00 AM. Music this year will be provided by the Latin Breed Band and the DJ by TJ Entertainment. For more information or reservations, please call Sophia Holton 713-449-3097.

Una vez más los Caballeros de Colón # 4577 y la corte # 1959 de las Hijas Católicas organizarán la Cena-Baile Anual del Arzobispo Flores en el Salón de los Caballeros de Colón localizado en el 6320 Madden Lane el día Sábado, 5 de Diciembre de 2015. Confirmation Adore: Exodus Series - How God Frees His People You are invited to join the 2016 Confirmation II candidates on Wednesday, October 7 at 7:00 PM at the Catholic Charismatic Center. All Souls candles will be sold during the month of October by Confirmation II candidates and in the bookstore. Pre-sale is $7 by October 25 and $8 until November 1. OLMC School Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Begins DEAR Program! As part of our efforts in increasing our literacy rates, we have implemented our DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) Program. Each day, depending on the grade, OLMC Students stop everything they are doing, to include teachers, and read for thirty minutes. This effort begins to prepare the student for the rigorous course work that awaits them in College Preparatory Schools. Reading is the foundation for all education. If we can begin to work with the community in assuring that their children are reading, then we can really begin to make a difference in the life of a child. We would like to ask the members of the community to encourage your child to read every night for thirty minutes. Or, you may want to read to them as well, depending on the age of the child. By reading, the child begins to increase their comprehension and literacy, which will help them to be successful in the College and Universities. So, take your child to the library or bookstore, and reward them for their efforts in reading books! Thanks and God bless!

Escuela OLMC La escuela OLMC inicia el programa “DEAR”!

Como parte de nuestros esfuerzos para incrementar los niveles de alfabetización, hemos puesto en marcha nuestro programa DEAR (Drop Everything and Read – Deja todo y ponte a leer). Cada día, dependiendo del grado, los estudiantes de OLMC dejan todo lo que estén haciendo, incluyendo a los profesores, para ponerse a leer por espacio de treinta minutos. Este esfuerzo ayuda a preparar al estudiante para los rigurosos

cursos que les espera en las Escuelas Preparatorias y en la Universidad. La lectura es la base de la educación. Si podemos empezar a trabajar con la comunidad para asegurar que sus hijos están leyendo, entonces podremos hacer la diferencia en la vida de un niño. Queremos pedirle a los miembros de la comunidad que animen a sus hijos a leer todas las noches durante treinta minutos. O bien, es posible que los adultos lean para ellos, dependiendo de la edad del

niño. Por medio de la lectura, el niño(a) comienza a aumentar su capacidad de comprensión, que les ayudará a tener éxito en la Universidad. Por lo tanto, lleven a sus hijos a la biblioteca o librería, y recompénselos por sus esfuerzos en la lectura de libros! Gracias y que Dios los bendiga!

Preparing for Next Sunday 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The first reading from the Book of Wisdom speaks of how wisdom overshadows all the riches of the world. The second reading from the Letter to the Hebrews reminds us that being steeped in Scripture helps us to be open to God’s will for us. The Gospel tells of the rich man coming to Jesus and asking what he must do to inherit eternal life.

Altar Server Meeting/Re-training for all Current Servers

If you are currently an Altar Server a MANDATORY Meeting/Re-training will be held on Saturday, October 24 from 9:00 - 11:30 AM in the Church. If you are 7 or older and have completed the Sacrament of Holy Communion or are about to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion, you are invited to attend this meeting/training. Small breakfast will be provided. Thank you for serving or wanting to serve the community of OLMC and above all thank you for hearing the call of God.

New Altar Server Training Please join us for an information meeting on Tuesday October 13 at 7:00 PM in the Church. Parents are required to attend this meeting. Training will begin on October 13, 15, and 20. You must attend all three classes from 7:00 - 8:00 PM. The only requirement is that you must have already celebrated your First Communion. Santa Comunión, o está a punto de recibir el Sacramento de la Comunión, queda invitado(a) a asistir a esta reunión de entrenamiento y formación. Se ofrecerá a todos un pequeño desayuno. Por favor, únase a nosotros en una reunión informativa que tendremos el Martes 13 de Octubre a las 7:00 PM en la Iglesia. Los padres también deben asistir a esta reunión. El entrenamiento comenzará el 13 de Octubre, el 15 y el 20. Todos deben asistir a las tres clases de 7:00 a 8:00 PM. El único requisito es que ya debe haber recibido la Primera Comunión.
