Time is extremely important in our life; it helps us structure our daily lives and activities, so that we can live more organized, productive lives. “Time may also be viewed in a more philosophical sense; time represents special milestones, including birthdays, anniversaries, and the births of children. This is one of the reasons why our own date of birth is special to us.” Besides, many people keep diaries and journals to mark the passing of time, to keep records of events accompanied by pictures of those events. These records become rich treasure troves of vital information about every day doings and any special achievements, problems, or activities. Even the book of Ecclesiastes 3:1–8 is a very well known passage that deals with the balanced, cyclical nature of life and says that there is a proper time for everything. “Time is the common matrix in which we live our lives and count our days. We cannot rise about it, we cannot manipulate its speed or duration, we cannot avoid it. All we can do is measure it, observe it, or try to interpret it as it passes by—one ‘tic tock’ at a time.” This Mirst week of advent focus on the subject of “time.” Pay attention to the readings of today and you will hear the ticking of a clock in each passage. In the Mirst reading, Isaiah talks about a glorious vision that will come to pass “in the last days.” In the second reading, St. Paul’s letter to the church at Rome, St. Paul exhorts his readers to “understand the present time, the hour has come to wake up from slumber, the time of salvation is nearer than they think, and that the night is nearly over and the day is almost here.” While in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus himself warns us all, “Keep watch, for you do not know what day your Lord will come. Be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect.” As we enter advent, it is a time we reconcile with God and others as we await for the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. Always remember to be prepared always, enjoy each day and time as a gift from God. Fr. Abuchi

MEANING  OF  ADVENT

In  the  Catholic  Church,  Advent  is  a  period  of  preparaOon,  extending  over  four  Sundays,  before  Christmas.  The  word  Advent  comes  from  the  LaOn  advenio,  "to  come  to,"  and  refers  to  the  coming  of  Christ.  This  refers,  first  of  all,  to  our  celebraOon  of  Christ's  birth  at  Christmas;  but  second,  to  the  coming  of  Christ  in  our  lives  through  grace  and  the  Sacrament  of  Holy  Communion;  and  finally,  to  His  Second  Coming  at  the  end  of  Ome.

Our  preparaOons,  therefore,  should  have  all  three  comings  in  mind.  We  need  to  prepare  our  souls  to  receive  Christ  worthily.

PRAYER  FOR  HEALING  OF  OUR  NATION

Almighty  God,  our  Rock  and  our  SalvaOon,  we  beg  you  to  pour  out  Your  Holy  Spirit  upon  our  fractured  naOon.    Heal  the  divisions  that  separate  us  and  remove  all  obstacles  to  authenOc  unity.      May  you  guide  this  great  country  of  ours  and  lead  our  ciOzens  to  embrace  one  another  as  neighbors  and  fellow  countrymen  created  in  your  own  image  and  likeness.    Give  us  a  fresh  opportunity  for  renewal  and  true  solidarity  for  the  common  good  of  our  homeland.  May  we  return  to  our  true  idenOty  as  a  people  of  faith  &  charity.  Help  us  to  always  remain  One  NaOon,  Under  God,  Indivisible,  with  Liberty  and  JusOce  for  all.           Amen.
