Door of Mercy
Pope Francis has asked dioceses throughout the world to open a HolyDoorinthisJubileeYearofMercy. The central bronze door [pictured above] at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary,
Queen of the Universe in Orlando has been designated as a Holy Door – a Door of Mercy.
A Holy Door has been used since the 15th Century as a ritual expression of conversion. Pilgrims pass through it as a gesture of leaving the past behind and crossing the threshold from sin to grace,
from slavery to freedom, and from darkness to light.
