From Father Holloway

Dear Parishioners,

Monday is the first day of Autumn (Spring in the Southern Hemisphere) so we begin to deal with less daylight, watch the leaves begin to change, check the sweaters and jackets, etc. Each season is only about 91 days so no wonder they seem to come about quickly. We try and make good use of our time, yet we sometimes find time getting ahead of our good intentions.

There are things to celebrate and enjoy in each season so celebrate those moments that are part of each season and see them as a gift God gives us to live well the rhythm of life. We might not get everything done as we had thought we would or not all will be perfect (what in life is exactly perfect?). Live what time God gives but continue to strive to use our time as best we can with God along with us.

I will be in Dayton, Ohio for a ship’s reunion from Monday the 23 rd through Friday the 27 th. I tried to get someone to take some daily Masses, but everyone was tied up so Communion Services those days. Also, September 30 th through October 3rd the annual Priests Assembly will take place so no daily Mass those days as well. I will be back for Mass on October 4 th, St. Francis of Assisi. God Bless,

Fr. Dave

Life Chain 2019 Sunday October 6th In 2018, over 1530 cities and towns held LIFE CHAINS, and each Chain is posted at LifeChain.net We are now focusing on National Life Chain Sunday 2019 … to be held OCTOBER 6.

LIFE CHAIN 2019 in our area is at Gregory & Blue Ridge Blvds. We will gather at Our Lady of Lourdes parking lot at 1:15 P.M. We will begin with prayer before we disperse to either side of Gregory Blvd. or Blue Ridge Blvd.; to proclaim publicly the Sanctity of Life and to pray against the evils of abortion.

The LIFE CHAIN is a family event. Make this event TOP priority. Bring folding chairs, water, and umbrellas. We will be there rain or shine, in prayerful silence. Pro-Life signs are provided. Will you give one hour?

LIFE CHAIN is a time for prayerful self-analysis, repentance, and serious commitment to helping end abortion in our nation.

LIFE CHAIN is not chiefly a demonstration, and its witness is not intended for the viewing public only. Instead, its first goal is to minister to its own participants—to those who call Christ their Lord and hold pro-life messages that declare abortion a grave evil that defames the name and holiness of God (Leviticus 18:21). Indeed the Church that Christ founded has drifted into cold indifference toward the sacredness of human life, and the result has been the mindless surgical killing and mutilation of over 45 million preborn Americans, plus untold millions who have fallen victim to abortive chemicals and medical neglect. It is purposeful to note that LIFE CHAIN is church oriented and pastor focused and that the key to a successful Chain is for local pastors to educate their congregations about abortion and then lead them to the sidewalk where their Chain is to be held. Without firm pastoral support, a Life Chain will not fulfill its potential for saving lives and changing hearts.

Stewardship Bulletin Reflection: September 22, 2019 Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Am 8:4-7; PS 113;1 Tm 2:1-8; Lk 16:1-13

After today’s readings, we can’t say we

have not been warned about the dangers of

mixed up priorities. God’s Word is so very

clear today on the necessity of putting

Him first in all areas of our lives.

We see this in the First Reading from

Amos. The Lord has harsh words for those

who would take advantage of the poor,

and whose priorities are not aligned with

God’s.

In the Second Reading from St. Paul’s letter to Timothy, Paul gives us the

antidote to the self-centeredness condemned in our First Reading. The antidote is

to imitate Christ, “who gave Himself as a ransom for all.” Rather than thinking of

Himself and how to “get ahead,” Christ gave Himself away — completely — for

our sake. That is how we are to live.

In our Gospel passage from Luke, the Lord shows us how to bridge the gap

between worldly thinking and priorities, and eternal thinking and priorities. Jesus

tells the parable of the corrupt but clever steward who is about the get fired when

the master discovers the steward has been squandering his property. Realizing his

imminent unemployed status, the clever steward reaches out to the various

debtors of his master to wheel and deal with them, making friends who would

look out for him when he became jobless.

What if we put that kind of effort into our own tasks as good stewards of all

God’s gifts to us? Into our ministries, into the ways we could make more time for

prayer as individuals, as couples, as families and as a parish? What if we got as

creative as the “bad steward” in the use of our finances so that we could give

more generously to the poor and to the advancement of God’s kingdom on the

earth?

That’s our lesson and our challenge.

“UNPLANNED”

~ KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING! ~

People have walked into this movie pro-choice and walked out pro-life. Workers are leaving the abortion industry, abortion-minded women have changed their minds and chosen LIFE! Based on the conversion story of Abby Johnson from abortion clinic director to pro-life heroine, this movie is changing hearts.

AFF & ProLife Committees join together in offering the movie ’Unplanned’ during the ’Feed Your Faith’ Wednesday evening October 2, 2019

“We must love our neighbor as being made in the image of God and as an object of His love.”

“Put your trust in Him and following His example, always act humbly, graciously, and in good faith.”

“We should spend as much time in thanking God for His benefits as we do in asking Him for them.”

“Extend your mercy towards others, so that there can be no one in need whom you meet without helping. For what hope is there for us if God should withdraw His Mercy from us?”

“If God is the center of your life, no words are necessary. Your mere presence will touch hearts.”

“Be acted upon rather than active. In this way, God will do through you alone what all men put together could not do without Him.”

“God, to procure His glory, sometimes permits that we should be dishonored and persecuted without reason. He wishes thereby to render us conformable to His Son, who was calumniated and treated as a seducer, as an ambitious man, and as one possessed.”

“When in Rome, you must do as the Romans do and accept the local customs, if they are not immoral.”

“We must hold as an irrefutable maxim that the difficulties we have with our neighbor arise more from our immortified moods than from anything else.”

“The most powerful weapon to conquer the devil is humility. For, as he does not know at all how to employ it, neither does he know how to defend himself from it.”

“The wisest persons, surprised by some passion, often say things they later regret.”

“If we divested ourselves, once and for all, of all self-will, we would then be in a position of being sure of doing the will of God, in which the angels find all their delight and men all their happiness.”

“People are made in such a way that even the holiest ones are liable to offend one another.”

“We should strive to keep our hearts open to the sufferings and wretchedness of other people, and pray continually that God may grant us that spirit of compassion which is truly the spirit of God.”

“Humility and charity are the two master-chords: one, the lowest; the other, the highest; all others are dependent on them.”

“The works of God are not accomplished when we wish them, but whenever it pleases Him.”

“Cast from your heart the bitterness.”

“Fear not; calm will follow the storm, and perhaps soon.”

“Our Lord humbles in order to raise up, and allows the suffering of interior and exterior afflictions in order to bring about peace. He often desires some things more than we do, but wants us to merit the grace of accomplishing them by several practices of virtue and to beg for this with many prayers.”

“Be faithful to Him, and the Divine Goodness will be favorable to you.”

That the Rosary and Divine Chaplet are prayed everyday at NOON in the Our Lady of Lourdes Perpetual Adoration Chapel? Prayerfully consider finding time to join. If you cannot get away to come to the parish spend a few minutes where ever you may be and to pray those prayers.

Did you know . . . ? Prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple

look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial

and joy.

Would you please join the Our Lady of Lourdes EMAIL prayer group so that we can pray for those in need of prayer in our parish? Call the Office 816-353-2380

Do you feel the call to serve? Do you enjoy reading the bible? Would you like to help others hear clearly the Word of God at Mass? Being a lector is a great way to deepen your appreciation of Sacred Scripture, and assist your fellow parishioners at Mass to cleary and prayerfully hear the Word of God. Lectors bring the living Word of God to the liturgical assembly.

Do you enjoy welcoming all to Mass, inviting people to greet those nearby, and encouraging everyone to participate in upcoming parish events? Or are you interested in being an usher?

When the people gather for the celebration of Mass, it is not as individuals but, rather, as a community of believers. Hospitality helps bring together those gathering to pray together. Hospitality creates a sense of community necessary for worship. A person who feels welcomed and valued is more likely to enter wholeheartedly into the celebration of the Mass and to return as a member of the parish community. A friendly and welcoming greeter or usher make God’s love apparent to people as they arrive.

If interested please Contact the office at 816-353-2380.
