Pastor’s Letter
The most important person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the
honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has
built something more magnificent than any cathedral— a dwelling for an
immortal soul. The tiny perfection of her baby’s body. “The angels have
not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative
miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can.
Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creatures. God
joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation ... what on
God’s good earth is more glorious than this: to be a mother?”
Happy Mother's Day! Prayerful best wishes to all our moms.
May God reward them for all their love and sacrifice
that they bestow upon their families every day.
Dear Parishioners:
The “founder” of Mother’s Day is Anna Jarvis who, interestingly enough, was never married
and had no children. However, she was very devoted to her own mother. She first celebrated
Mother’s Day in 1908 to honor mothers, “the person who has done more for you than anyone
in the world.” In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation creating Mother’s
Day as a national holiday to be celebrated on the second Sunday in May. Mother’s Day is now
celebrated in 46 countries around the world. Let us all honor and pray for mothers, both living
and deceased, for all their sacrificial love that they have bestowed on us over the years.
Next Sunday, May 21, after the 9:30am Mass, we will have our annual May Crowning. We
will process from the Church following the Mass for the crowning of Mary as Queen of
Heaven. Everyone is invited, but we especially want to invite those who made their First Holy
Communion this year . I encourage everyone to come to the crowning and honor our
Blessed Mother.
Remember: Together, we can do something beautiful for God.
In Christ,
Fr. Brian

Fr. Mike Schmitz tackles some of the most difficult topics in the Church today with
humor, clarity, and theological truth. In this talk, he challenges us to not settle for
mediocrity and to allow Christ to change our lives. Fr. Mike goes on to explain that
once we are changed by the love of Jesus, then together we can change the world.

Happy Mother’s Day! As we join together to celebrate the wonderful Moms in our lives, let’s also
take time to remember and pray for all the thousands of Mom’s who worry about how they are going to put
food on the table for their children this week.
More than 35% of the 300,000 people on Long Island who receive emergency food each year are
children under the age of 18.
Please consider supporting the work of the Catholic Ministries Appeal so that we can continue to care for
God’s children and their families through our Parish Outreach programs and Catholic Charities.
Our hope is that each family will make a gift. We cannot ask everyone to consider the same size gift,
but after prayer and reflection, each family is invited to make a gift in response to God’s generosity
in their lives.
No gift is too small and all gifts make a difference in the lives of others!

Dear Jesus,
Thank you
for promising to make
a special place for me
in Heaven.
Sharing the Gospel
Jesus is getting a place ready for you in
Heaven. One day, you can spend time with
Jesus there. You will never get sick. You
will never be sad. You will never be left
out. You will be loved because you are
God’s special child, and He wants to spend
time with you every day.
Jesus is getting ready for
you. Make sure you are get-
ting ready for Jesus. Ask God
to help you grow closer to Him every day.
