INFANT BAPTISMS For children under 7 years of age, the sacrament is celebrated the FIRST Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. The parents must register in the parish office at least 4 weeks prior to the baptism. Both parents and godparents are expected to attend one catechetical session in advance, on the Wednesday before the baptism, at 7:00 pm.

SACRAMENTS OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Before being fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church, children over the age of 7 will need catechetical prepa-ration through the RCIC process. Teenagers and adults will par-ticipate in separate RCIA processes. CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION For those already baptized, preparation for these Sacraments will take place according to the person’s age and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. For further information contact the Office of Faith Formation Program.

MARRIAGES Couples should contact the parish office at least six months in advance to make the proper ar rangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Dear Parishioners, Saturday of this weekend was the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. This Feast celebrates the time when Mary and Joseph brought the baby Jesus to the temple to present him according to the Law of Moses. There was a righteous and devout man named, Simeon, who was guided by the Holy Spirit to be there at that time. He recognized the baby Jesus as the long-expected Messiah. Taking the infant Jesus into his arms he said as part of his prayer, “…for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and glory for your people Israel.” The scene of Jesus being presented in the temple as part of the Holy Family and Simeon meet-ing and recognizing Jesus as the promised Messiah is very meaningful. Jesus is the light of the world that dispels the darkness of sin and death. We as individuals, family, church and the people of God need to present Jesus to all in order to help everyone see the salvation Jesus offers. As we begin the shortest month of the year, let us be aware of the ways we can receive Jesus, as Simeon did, and give thanks for the light that he gives us. I thank God for the light of Christ that was seen in our young people last December and January in our school’s talented Christmas pag-eant, in our choir concert, the March for Life in Washington and our Diocesan youth in World Youth Day. This past week was Catholic Schools Week. Our school had its article in the Tablet and we honored teachers at Mass last Friday. We can look forward to praying for the light of Christ to shine in all Married Couples in the Church next week February 11-15th. We can pray for light of Christ to enlighten the faith of all in our Arise and Levantate reflection groups who will begin to meet again later this month. Let us continue to hold up and show the light of Christ as we joyfully anticipate the Season of Lent next month. Rev. Darrell Da Costa

DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PÁRROCO

Queridos Feligreses:

Este fin de semana, el sábado fue la fiesta de la Presentación de Nuestro Señor. Esta fiesta se celebra en el momento en que María y José llevaron al niño Jesús al templo para presentar-lo según la Ley de Moisés. Había un hombre justo y devoto llamado Simeón, que fue guiado por el Espíritu Santo para estar allí en ese momento. R econoció al niño Jesús como el espera-do Mesías. Tomando al niño Jesús en sus brazos, dijo como parte de su oración: “... porque mis ojos han visto tu salvación, que has preparado a la vista de todos los pueblos, una luz para la revelación a los gentiles y la gloria para tu pueblo Israel. ” La escena de Jesús presentada en el templo como parte de la reunión de la Sagrada Familia y Simeón y el reconocimiento de Jesús como el Mesías prometido es muy significativa. Jesús es la luz del mundo que disipa las tinieblas del pecado y la muerte. Nosotros, como individuos, familia, iglesia y el pueblo de Dios necesitamos presentar a Jesús a todos para ayudar a todos a ver la salvación que Jesús ofrece. Al comenzar el mes más corto del año, seamos conscientes de las formas en que podemos recibir a Jesús, como lo hizo Simeón, y demos gracias por la luz que nos da. Agradezco a Dios por la luz de Cristo que se vio en nuestros jóvenes el pasado diciembre y enero en el talentoso concurso de Navidad de nuestra escuela, en nuestro concierto de coro, la Marcha por la Vida en Washington y nuestra juventud diocesana en la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud. La sema-na pasada fue la semana de las escuelas católicas. Nuestra escuela tenía su artículo en la Tab-leta y honramos a los maestros en la Misa el viernes pasado. Podemos esperar rezar para que la luz de Cristo brille en todas las parejas casadas en la Iglesia la próxima semana del 11 al 15 de febrero. Podemos orar para que la luz de Cristo ilumine la fe de todos en nuestros grupos de reflexión Levántate y levanta, que comenzarán a reunirse nuevamente más adelante este mes. Continuemos demostrando y mostrando la luz de Cristo mientras anticipamos con alegría la temporada de Cuaresma el próximo mes.
