MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
MEET THE TEACHER Thank you to all the parents who came along to
the ‘Meet the Teacher Night’. This is the first part
of our reporting to parents process. In June you
will receive a written report and will be invited to
attend a Student Led Conference where your
child/children will present their learning journey
they have been on to their parent/parents.
As students engage in their Inquiry units each
term they will generally have an “Action” at the
end of the unit where they will demonstrate and
apply the learning they have done throughout
the term. This is an exciting and excellent way
for students to demonstrate how clever they are.
I encourage you to attend these wherever
possible. In December you will receive your
child/children’s final report.
If at any time you wish to discuss your child/
children’s progress you will need to make an
appointment with the classroom teacher.
SOMERS CAMP Expression of interest notes have gone out to
students in Year’s 5 and 6. Somers camp is a
fabulous experience and is heavily subsidised.
As places are limited please make sure you get
your forms back by Friday 7 March.
PREP TRANSITION SURVEYS Feedback is vitally important to us to ensure we
give you and your family the best experience
when starting school. Our Prep families have
been given a survey which should only take 5
minutes to fill in. We appreciate your comments
and hope to use these to improve our Transition
Program in 2015. Please return surveys by Friday
14 March.
COME & TRY SCHOOL MORNING Do you have or do you know of any children
due to start school next year?
If so encourage them to register
for our Come and Try School
Morning on Friday 14 March.
As well as giving children a
“taste” of Primary School,
parents will have the opportunity
to hear all about starting school
and the enrolment process.
A range of staff will be on hand
to answer any questions you
may have.
BUNNINGS BBQ Thank you to our wonderful helpers at the
Bunnings BBQ. We made a profit of $750 putting
us a step closer to starting our oval project.
SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS Thank you to those parents who voted in our
School Council Elections. Congratulations to the
following candidates who have been successful:
Merilyn Cini, Sonia Fellowes, Felicity Gates and
Paula Kelly.
EXCITING NEWS We have been successful in gaining a CASS
grant to fund an Artist in School project which
will take place in term 2 with the Year 3/4
students. The project looks at linking local
Sunshine History with various mediums of Art and
will be community focussed. This is a fantastic
opportunity for our students to gain access to a
professional artist and local historians. We would
like to acknowledge the CASS Foundation for
their support.
CURRICULUM DAYS A reminder to parents that our Curriculum days
for the remainder of 2014 are as follows:
Monday 12 May
Monday 3 November
COMMUNITY BOARD At SPS we value the communication between
our school and home. It is very important
that parents are aware of the important
events such as incursions/excursion, fundraising,
student presentations, etc…. taking place.
We encourage you to register online if you
haven't done so already to receive the
newsletter and other information electronically.
We ask our families to visit our website on a
regular basis as we endeavour to keep this site
up to date.
We also have a community board that is
updated on a regular basis with the events
taking place. Don’t forget to check it out.
Our Facebook page is also an in time
communication tool. All you have to do is like us
and you will receive all the updates.
Our School Values We shine when we are: Learning, Respectful, Safe
-
FACEBOOK Late last year our school created a Facebook page.
This page was created as another form of communication to
keep parents informed. In order for our staff to post photos of
your child/children we need your permission. A reminder
note was sent out yesterday for those parents that have not
completed the permission form for their child/children.
We ask that you complete the form and return to the office
by Friday 7 March.
PERMISSION FORMS There are many organisations that request payment up front
for incursions/excursion. We ask that all permission forms
signed with payment if required be returned by the due date
stated on the form.
For parents who are using the BPay option please keep in
mind that it can take up to two days for the payment to
reach our account. Please note if you receive a payment
envelope attached to a note you are required to make
payment.

MESSAGE FROM THE
ACTING ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
We have had another very busy fortnight at Sunshine Primary
School. As we encourage all of our students to be active
learners, we also expect this of our teachers. This week we
had Ms Hennessey go off to ‘teachers school’ to bring back
some great ideas for our work in the area of Literacy,
Mrs Azzopardi spent a day working with other schools in our
network on our Maths curriculum and Ms McLeod,
Mr Frederick, Caroline and myself had a day of Professional
Learning based on our School Wide Positive Behaviours
Framework. It will be a very exciting place to be over the
next few weeks as all this new learning is filtered into the
classrooms.
SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS It was with great pleasure that we had the opportunity to
report such positive behaviours to our colleagues on how
well the students at SPS are doing.
Yard duty has been an absolute delight. All students
are playing happily; they are using the language and
vocabulary that we have taught them through the SWPBF to
assist with conflict resolution.
Our classrooms are buzzing with new learning and
productivity. I have just had two grade 1/2 girls come in and
show me some of their writing – I was blown away.
Credit goes to our whole school community for really
upholding and demonstrating our school values!

Footy Tipping Competition
On hot days, it is important to remember that children should never be left alone in a car.
The temperature inside a car on hot days begins to rise as soon as the door closes and within
minutes the temperature inside can be double the temperature outside.
Leaving children in hot cars – even for a moment – can result in injury or death.
Young children’s smaller body size and underdeveloped nervous system places them at a much
greater risk of life-threatening heatstroke, dehydration and other serious health risks.
Victorian legislation makes leaving a child unattended in a car a criminal offence, with penalties
ranging from fines of $2165 or three months in prison.
If you are travelling with a child in a car and you need to get out, make sure you take your child
with you. No exceptions. No excuses.
