MOOSE LEGION COMMITTEE WOW! What happened to spring? It is definitely warm outside. Since the sun is out, everything is blooming and growing fast. Mitch would appreciate any help to maintain our Lodge. As you noticed, the Moose Legion has purchased the flowers in front of the Lodge to give it a fresher look. Also, I want to thank everyone who helped at Gail and Dee’s me-morial. It went smoothly as planned. Please look for meals on your calendars and offer your help if possible. I would like to encourage the men who are not Moose Legion members to consider step-ping up to join and make a difference.
CHAPTER HIGHER DEGREES COMMITTEE Let’s meet at Santa Fe Basque
Restaurant on May 11th at 11:30. It’s at 3110 N. Maroa.
Join us if you hold a degree!
COUNCIL OF HIGHER DEGREES
The next Council meeting is scheduled for June 1st at Stockdale Lodge. Please plan to attend. Any Moose member holding a degree is welcomed and encouraged to join the Council to assist Lodges and Chapters with member retention. The yearly dues are only $5. There are at least 15 Council members in Fresno Chapter and Lodge. Join them now.
I was asked many, many times to share the poem I wrote
for Gail Marlatt when he was elected President to the CA/
NV Moose Association. Milt McGinnis graciously allowed
me to read it at the Pilgrim Memorial. Carol Veach
TO GAIL
You joined the Moose in ‘85 and then you joined the Legion.
Your foot was on the ladder as you worked throughout the Region.
In ‘91 they awarded you the Fellowship Degree.
You’d really done a lot for us, on that we all agree.
Your ‘95 appointment was for Deputy Supreme. You traveled wide and spread the word
about our Mooseheart dream.
You heard your name in ‘98 within the House of God as you became a Pilgrim
when you crossed the sacred quad.
Now here we are to offer you sincere congratulations as you start your term as
President of our Moose Association.
On the ladder of accomplishment, It seems the top is near. We don’t think that’s true and we’ll see where you go from here.
We know you’ll serve us long and well—
that’s all you need to do. And down the road we’ll meet again
to once more honor you.

GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE As the newly elected Governor of our Fresno Moose Lodge, I am looking forward to working with the new Board of Officers and our members. With the many changes at our Moose Home, it may be a little bumpy but with help from our past Governors and our Adminis-trator, we should have no problems, rest assured. We have a lot of work this year, such as our Annual Car Show and cook offs and hopefully, with your help, a lot of other events. If you have any questions or concerns, please come see me. Let’s make this a Great Year! Thanks! Fraternally, Rudy Vizcarra
MOOSE RIDERS
There has been interest in starting a Moose Riders Activity Group in the Fresno Moose Lodge. Its member-ship is open to any good standing member of the Lodge or Chapter, whether they ride a motorcycle or are simply a supporter. The Moose Riders are consistent-
ly among the fastest growing and most “active” of all Moose Lodge Activity Groups. The earliest evidence of Moose-related motorcycle groups is a motorcycle patch found from a group affiliated with the Greater Chicago #3 Moose Lodge, which ceased operations in 1992. The “Moose Rider” group’s origins and first use of the name goes back to the Lafferty, OH Lodge #1462 between 1994 and 1996, when several Lodge motorcy-cle enthusiast became known as “the Moose Riders”. The first official Moose Rider group meeting was held on April 1st of 1996. The Ohio Moose Association Moose Riders held their “Bike-A-Rama” on August 24, 1996. When David Chambers became General Governor in 1996, the Ohio Moose Association Moose Riders were already established. He subsequently had numerous conversation with them regarding their program and cre-ated a set of operational guides (originally known as by-laws) for them and used these as a model for the rest of the fraternity. When Steve Greene became the General Governor, he adapted the available materials into the Guidelines that are currently in use and enforced.
Darts are coming back to Wednesday nights in June when we have Rudy’s Cast Iron Burgers. The machines are already up in the dining room now so you can bring your soft tip darts and practice before the tourneys start in June!

ADMINISTRATOR’S MESSAGE I have some big shoes to fill. Gail Marlatt held the Administrator position for 19 years and with the help from some members, built it to the Lodge that it is today. Far from the tired Palm Lakes Golf Course Pro Shop. I am excited about the upcoming year and wel-come the input from any member on how we can improve our Lodge. I am proud to announce that we start off the year with a complete Board of Officers and Chairmen Staff. It is our goal this year to fill the calendar with events that will get even more people involved, increase membership and make our Moose Home a better place. The New Board, Staff and I will strive to make this goal a reality. We have several fun ideas for events already in the works but it is going to take the participation of all our members, both men and women, to make them suc-cessful. We still have the same concerns that plague our lodge, as well as many other lodges in the fraternity, the retention of our members. We are bringing new members into our Moose Home, while letting mem-bers slip out the back door. We will be working more with the Higher Degree Committee to reduce the number of members dropping their membership. Thank you for allowing me to be your Governor for the past year. I appreciated all the help I re-ceived with the functions we held. Thank you to everyone who attended the Officer Installation Cere-mony and thank you Lee Omer for reading the part of Installing Officer—great job. An even bigger thanks to all those who helped. Congratulations to Rudy Vizcarra, our incoming Governor and the rest of the board. A big thanks to the WOTM Board for all your help this past year. Congrats to Barbara Gardner, the new Senior Regent, and the rest of the Board of Officers. Let’s support each other in the coming year! Once again, I would like to thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to serve you. My phone number is 284-8649. This number will appear every month in the MooseLine. Give me a call if you have any questions or concerns. If I don’t have the an-swer, I’ll get it and give you a call back. Let’s make this a great year. Please come out and support the many activities that will be planned next year. Re-member—it’s the members who make our Lodge a Home. Fraternally yours, Chris Lubbers

Volunteer’s Corner
Just recently a new member asked how they can learn more about volunteering.
We always appreciate it when someone adds their name and specialty to the monthly dinner calendar. But there are many other ways to volunteer. If you enjoy talking to peo-ple, get on a calling committee like Membership/Retention. If you enjoy social media, we can always use an extra key-board user to help keep things updated. What about photography? We really need a dedicated member to volunteer to cover our events. If you like working outside, there is always landscape work and “yard duty” once a month with Mitch on the 1st Saturday. If cleanliness is your thing, we can always use help when it comes to cleaning inside the lodge quarters (Kitchen, Dining Room, etc.) If you like doing activities with the kids, monthly KIDZ TYME activities are always in the works. The LOOM will always ap-preciate help with Mother’s Day Brunch. And, the WOTM would appreciate help with Father’s Day Breakfast. We are already prepping for our Car Show on Sat. Sep 28th. We need lots of help!!! This is a function that needs participa-tion by the entire lodge!!! We look forward to working with all of our new (and sea-soned) members AND having fun, too.
