Arion Export B.V.: Easy-Slide Kids – Compression for small people

Arion_Easy_Slide_Kids_Nina.tif The 'Easy-Slide Kids' support by Arion from the Netherlands (Geleen), helps children of 0 to 6 years of age to put tubular compression bandages on their arms or legs. For young patients and their parents, putting on and taking off tubular compression bandages is an – often troublesome - activity that recurs on a daily basis. It is not unusual for small children to fall victim to severe burns caused by hot liquids on their arms or legs. One of the complications that can occur with such injuries is excessive scarring. Wearing compression clothing impedes the process and helps stop the formation of further scar tissue. At the same time, the compression clothing helps the scars to settle down more quickly. The 'Easy-Slide Kids' is manufactured from especially smooth material, so as to make it as easy as possible to slip on a compression tube and to keep friction against the sensitive skin to the minimum. Little force is required to slip on the tubular bandage and the process is therefore less arduous. 'Easy-Slide Kids' was developed in collaboration with the German company Triconmed. Its form and colour resemble that of a crocodile. Arion have, therefore, created the cartoon character 'Nina the Crocodile' and present their product in a cartoon story. 'Easy-Slide Kids' is part of the 'Slide Solution' range and is obtainable in two sizes. www.arion-group.com

AXS MEDICAL BIOMODTM – 3D reconstruction and spinal cord analysis

AXS MEDICAL_BIOMOD.jpg With their BIOMODTM, the French company AXS MEDICAL (Le Havre) are offering a piece of technology that is unique in the world. It is able to provide a 3D reconstruction and assessment of the spine, as well as of the shape of the back in a position of stress due to load. Behind this item of medical equipment lies a ground-

breaking approach, which simultaneously combines the optical images from the BIOMODTM measuring device with the two regular X-ray images (frontal and coronal). BIOMODTM makes it possible to get a 3D model of the spinal column, as well as 2D and 3D clinical parameters with just a few clicks. The technology is compatible with any radiological set-up and can be accommodated in all X-ray rooms, as well as being able to integrate into existing clinical workflows. In follow-up treatment, just the optical BIOMODTM measurements are taken, to assess the patient's situation. This means that systematic use of X-rays is avoided. BIOMODTM is CE certified and licensed for use by Health Canada. The technology has already been installed in several hospitals and university clinics in France, Belgium, Holland and Switzerland as well as North Africa. www.biomod.fr

Betterguards Technologie GmbH: New orthoses for reliable protection of the joint whilst retaining a high degree of flexibility

Betterguards_Laeufer.jpg Ankle sprains are generally reckoned to be the most common type of sports injury. Up until now, however, no user-friendly solutions have existed to prevent these or to provide a really suitable therapy. Instead, currently available products offer either high levels of protection, but fail to allow the desired amount of movement, - such as braces. Or they allow a high degree of movement, but then without adequate security – like bandages. That is why Betterguards (Berlin) have developed a new treatment principle, which meets all the requirements so far described. Just like a safety belt, the Betterguards Orthotic Brace prevents potentially harmful movements, whilst, from a physiological point of view, it allows considerable freedom of movement. The stresses that arise are limited, depending on the load acting on the ligaments. www.betterguards.de

BORT GmbH: BORT Generation – new range of orthoses for greater mobility in later life

BORT_Generation.tif The new BORT Generation line by Bort (Weinstadt-Benzach) provides support for geriatric patients, as well as patients with motor limitations, to retain their mobility. The range includes soft orthoses for stabilisation and stress relief of the wrist, thumb basal joint, saddle joint, lumbar region of the spine, and knee joint. The range of supports for fall-prone patients is completed by a hip-protection girdle with built-in shock absorption. All products are extremely comfortable to wear and are easy to put on and take off. Their operation and design have been specially developed for people with limited ability to grip and with impaired mobility. In spite of arthrosis or joint instability, the users can move more safely, with less pain and more independently. Particular

attention has been paid to typical everyday situations in which the relevant target group find themselves – ensuring, for example, that the orthoses can be used without problems alongside other mechanical aids such as underarm crutches, Zimmer frames and walkers. The BORT Generation range fulfils all the requirements for inclusion in the index of authorised mechanical aids of the recognised health insurance companies. www.bort.com

College Park Industries, Inc.: College Park Industries introduce their first multi-axial stubby prosthetic feet

College_Park_foot-sidekicks-hero-1000.png The US company, College Park Industries, Inc. (Warren/Michigan) presents it new multi-axial stubby prosthetic feet for foreshortened prostheses. The Sidekicks™ make use of 15 years' experience of Venture® ankle-joint technology and represent a huge improvement in comparison to the usual options for double upper-leg amputees. The feet imitate the anatomical turning movement and enable the patient to move naturally. Stubby prosthetic feet with a flat sole plate do not adapt to any kind of uneven ground. But the Sidekicks™ are flexible and thus even out ground contact in real environments. This is a crucial factor in maintaining balance and stability.

Page 7: OTWorld 2016: The sector's showcase for …2016/05/06  · OTWorld International Trade Fair and World Congress (3 to 6 May 2016) Leipzig, 19 February 2016 OTWorld 2016: The sector's

The Sidekicks™ are manufactured from extremely hard-wearing urethane dampers and incorporate a StrideControl™ function. This means that fine adjustments can be made over time, as the patient is rehabilitated. The reduction in friction can help bring muscle groups into use and build strength. That is particularly important, if the aim is eventually to shift to a microprocessor knee. Sidekicks™ have been tested for their water resistance and can also be obtained as individual units to be adapted for sporting activity. The shaped profile and the robust anatomical ankle joint offer unlimited possibilities. At OTWorld, College Park are, additionally, promoting their patented and newly introduced hydraulic foot, the OdysseyK3. www.college-park.com

Deutscher Verband für Podologie e.V.: A new look for the former German Association of Podiatrists and Chiropodists (ZFD)

ZFD_neues_Erscheinungsbild _podo_Deutschland.jpg The key professional organisation for podiatrists and chiropodists in Germany is coming to OTWorld with a whole new look. Moreover the ZFD now bears the name of The German Podiatry Association – ZFD (Deutscher Verband für Podologie - ZFD) e.V. (formerly: German Association of Podiatrists and Chiropodists (Zentralverband der Podologen und Fußpfleger Deutschlands e.V.). The updated name and modernised image reflect the successful development and new professional status accorded to podiatry since the German 'Podiatry Law' came into effect (a law which clarifies and defines the qualifications and requirements necessary in Germany for recognition as a qualified podiatrist / chiropodist / medical foot-care specialist). Moreover, it reflects the fact that the association is, step by step, coming into line with the professional associations of other healthcare providers in Germany, as well as the professional associations for podiatry / podology and podotherapy in Europe outside Germany. As a result, podiatry / podology will in future enjoy more equal status with the medical professions and other therapeutic and caring professions. www.podo-deutschland.de

FILLAUER:

New: Symes foot with AER technology, Electric Terminal Device / 2nd Generation The new Symes foot with AER technology and the Second Generation Electric Terminal Device (ETD2) are amongst the new products to be seen at Fillauer (Chattanooga, TN USA)

Fillauer_Aeris Activity.jpg The Aeris Activity Prosthetic Foot is the first foot to enable the user with a Symes or Boyd amputation to experience the advantages of 21st-century prosthesis design. The posterior attachment of the carbon pylon, offers a long carbon spring with the movement and Advanced Energy Release (AER) system of this multiple foot-plate design from Fillauer. Foot plate only designs can be a thing of the past, as the user may now have a naturally functioning, energy-returning prosthetic foot.

Fillauer_ETD2.jpg The ETD2 benefits from a new, aesthetic and functional design with colours and patterns available to suit the user's taste. The integrated design is shorter than previous electric hooks, allowing most wrist functions to be added for many more wearers, while still matching the length of the of an interchangeable hand. A new manufacturing approach incorporates plastic injection molding around modern high-strength metal inserts, coupled with durable plastic/metal layered gripping plates, which may be conveniently replaced in the clinic. In addition, the high-strength hook fingers have a sophisticated and durable sensor that allows the integration the Force Limiting Auto Grasp (FLAG) feature for unmatched control of grip force by even inexperienced wearers. www.fillauer.com

Florett GmbH: Easily managed 'Peroneus Boot'

Florett_Peroneusstiefel.jpg The newly developed 'Peroneus Boot' by Florett (Cham), offers greater comfort and convenience. It is used in the treatment of paralysis related to the nerve of the same name, following a stroke or a spinal disc injury, or as a result of multiple sclerosis. The considerable clearance afforded by the shoe upper in the toe area offers sufficient room for any possible cramping of the toes consequent on intermittent spasticity. Hemiplegic patients can open and close the Velcro fastenings with one hand. The component for raising the foot is already integrated into the shoe, thus dispensing with the need for a separate peroneal splint. The toe roll off function ensures a better gait profile and the soft, lined upper, made from nappa leather, is comfortable to wear. The paired boot is available without stiffening. www.florett.de

Franz Barta GmbH: Launch for individual laser labelling

Barta Laserbeschriftung.png In its current product range, transfer-printing specialist, Franz Barta (Vienna) now has a new solution for individualised lettering and identification. Barta Transfers have so far been used on orthopaedic products for company logos as well as for washing and care instructions with various textiles and flexible materials. The further development now combines this with modern laser labelling: specific individual data can be put onto the transfer film in fractions of a second – date of manufacture, for instance, bar and QR codes. The laser labelling system can be incorporated into databases, whereby product details can be processed directly by the transfer machine and then laser-printed onto the transfers. The transfer and the substrate material are subsequently permanently bonded using heat and pressure. Barta Transfers are extremely abrasion-resistant and washable; they are very elastic and outstandingly durable. www.barta.at

Jauch Orthopädietechnik GmbH: EasyStep partial foot II – all-round makeover for the EasyStep forefoot prosthesis

Jauch Orthopädietechnik_EasyStep partial foot II.JPG Jauch Orthopädietechnik (Villingen-Schwenningen) have been producing the EasyStep forefoot prosthesis in Germany since January 2015. The company had previously developed the recently available, radically updated version, the EasyStep partial foot II, in conjunction with doctors and biomechanics experts. An elaborate system of cushioning and springy elastomers are built in to complete the construction. This has made it possible to significantly improve the roll-over function. The elastomers are adjusted to a measure of the patient's activity level, from 1 to 4, and are thus always ideally suited to the demands made on them. In accordance with the guidelines published by the German Diabetes Society (Deutsche Diabetes Gesellschaft) Jauch Orthopädietechnik's EasyStep forefoot prosthesis for diabetic patients is built up in three layers – to ensure treatment at the highest level of functionality. www.orthopaedie-jauch.de

Keep Walking Project, S.L.: The Keep Walking Femoral Implant for better quality of life

Keep_Walking.tif The Keep Walking Femoral Implant is a product developed in Spain (Valencia). It offers a solution for patients with a lower extremity amputation at femoral level who are using or are going to be using a prosthesis equipped with a socket. This implant, which is fitted entirely inside the limb, facilitates distal support of the weight on the stump, improves patients’ ability to walk, and reduces or eliminates the necessity for technical aids. It improves the wearer’s comfort considerably, increases proprioception and improves control of the prosthesis. The result: the patient can wear the prosthesis for longer and has a better quality of life. In addition, the Keep Walking Implant restores femoral bone density, which is apt to decrease in

the medium term after an amputation, giving rise to the risk of femoral neck fractures for these amputees. The Keep Walking Implant is suitable for all kinds of trans-femoral amputees and is proving to be especially advantageous for older patients with vascular disease, because it helps them to become more active and thereby improves their general state of health. www.implantekeepwalking.es

medi GmbH & Co. KG: Become a global explorer in medi's 'World of Compression'

medi_Therapiekonzept_Wunde.jpg This is the overarching theme for the medi (Bayreuth) stand at OTWorld 2016. With it, the company is seeking to focus on holistic conceptions of therapy – including, for instance, a new approach to the treatment of wounds. It combines the acute phase and the attempt to prevent recurrent complication in the treatment of chronic wounds. Along with effective therapy, this new concept helps the patient to manage his or her own treatment; because patients can accomplish each stage of the therapy independently, they become therapists of their own condition. The medi concept for wound therapy consists of the following key elements: cleaning the wound, treatment of the initial condition and the prevention of recurrent complication. The aim is to encourage adherence and to improve the patients' quality of life.

medi_mediven_Trendfarben.jpg The latest trends exhibited in the colours used by medi, moreover, plunge their World of Compression into delicate shades of springtime and bright summer colours. With their slogan: 'Bright and light – making every moment a celebration,' their attractive collection of medical compression stockings in evening rose, sky blue and midnight grey have engendered enthusiastic approval. To these colours are added some intense trend-setting shades such as a sunny orange, dusky purple and moonlight blue. And to add a dazzling and eye-catching touch to the clasp, they have used some exclusive Swarovski® crystals*. In addition, medi offer their

neaTec GmbH: New orthoses and an anti-snore pillow for a healthy night's sleep The neaTec (Neu-Ulm) company come to OTWorld 2016 with three brand new products, introducing their ErixThree® shoulder orthosis, the Dyfex® dynamic hand orthosis and the SlumberBump® anti-snore pillow.

neaTec_ErixThree.jpg The ErixThree® shoulder brace is designed for patients with subluxation problems following a stroke or neurological illness. It raises the shoulder joint and holds the head of the humerus in the correct position. Reinforcement and positioning straps on the outside and silicone strips on the inside secure the joint in its physiologically correct position.

Page 14: OTWorld 2016: The sector's showcase for …2016/05/06  · OTWorld International Trade Fair and World Congress (3 to 6 May 2016) Leipzig, 19 February 2016 OTWorld 2016: The sector's

neaTec_Dyfex.jpg The Dyfex® hand orthosis combines a rigid, adjustable aluminium brace with two dynamic air cushions. The latter have been incorporated into the finger platform to support the transverse and longitudinal arches of the hand and provide a gentle and constant extension of the flexor tendons. This results in decreased sensitivity of the receptors, higher thresholds for spasticity triggers and reduced myotonus.

neaTec_SlumberBump.jpg The SlumberBump® anti-snore pillow employs a simple principle to combat snoring: the inflatable pillow is placed in a specially designed pillowcase and attached to the back with a belt at the base of the rib cage. Frequently, simply obliging the subject to lie on his or her side is sufficient to ensure a night's sleep without snoring. www.neatec.de

novel GmbH: pedoped® - mobile pressure sensor

novel_pedoped in der Anwendung.jpg Novel (Munich) have developed a sensor, which registers the overall force acting on the sole of the foot and thus the total physiological stress to which the foot is subjected. The new pedoped® sole is designed to measure the normal force acting between foot and shoe. The patented pedoped® sensor registers the normal plantar forces in unrestricted movements, independently of which part of the foot is subject to load. A miniature electronic circuit records the data and transmits it to a smartphone in real time. The user receives immediate biofeedback about the forces acting on his or her foot. The measurement details can be stored in the smartphone

and later assessed on a PC. A dynamic picture of the forces acting on the foot gives access to many important parameters for gait analysis related to biomechanic considerations and rehabilitation. pedoped® offers a variety of apps, tailored to specific uses in rehabilitation and orthopaedics, including monitoring of pressure, including biofeedback, bipedal comparison of foot loadings and stability of gait. The pedoped® sole is ideal for applications, where the central concern is about the total forces acting on the foot rather than the local distribution of load. www.novel.de

Orfit Industries: Orfitrans Excel – innovative PE copolymer for orthoses and flexible prosthesis sockets

ORFIT_Orfitrans Excel.jpg Orfitrans by Orfit (Wijnegem) is a well-known range of thermoplastics for use in the production of prosthesis sockets. With their Orfitrans Excel, the Belgian company will be bringing the latest type of PE copolymer with them to Leipzig. Like all other Orfitrans materials, Orfitrans Excel can be stretched easily and evenly, the side walls do not become thin or tear. Rips and distortions are things of the past – as are cold flow and excessive chafing; discolouration is minimised. Orfitrans is available in black and semi-transparent. www.orfit.com

ORMED GmbH – a DJO GLOBAL Company: DONJOY® MATRIX PT makes short work of anterior knee pain!

ORFIT_Orfitrans_ DONJOY® MATRIX PT.jpg Anterior knee pain is amongst the most common forms of knee complaint. Often it results from excessive stress on the knee joint, resulting from extreme levels of sporting activity, bad knee posture or muscular disbalance. Pain and relieving postures adopted by the subject make conservative therapy all the more difficult. With its new system, which acts to extend and stabilise, the DONJOY® MATRIX PT knee brace works to combat the complex nature of these problems. Forces on the knee are spread over the whole area of the knee, thus reducing pain and absorbing harmful energy peaks. The patella is maintained within its natural path and any abnormality in its movement corrected. The product introduced by ORMED (Freiburg) interrupts the cycle that emerges between the cause of the pain and the increasing limitation on movement. It is easy to put on and remains comfortable to wear, even after a long period of activity. A thin liner-stocking is included with each item. It is available in four sizes and in red, blue

ORTEMA GmbH: Modern arm ortheses following dislocation, fracture or plexus paresis

ORTEMA_Julia Dujmovits.JPG Dislocation of the shoulder and elbow represents something of a challenge for orthopaedic technicians. ORTEMA (Markgröningen) manufacture individually produced orthoses based on a plaster impression for conservative or post-operative treatments as well as for long-term therapeutic solutions. Depending on requirements, it is available in unilateral and bilateral versions. The company has been able to secure the recommendation of Austrian snowboarder and gold medallist in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Julia Dujmovits.

ORTEMA_Plexusparese.JPG Moreover, orthoses are increasingly being used to treat patients with plexus palsy as a way of restoring functionality by means of external support. To compensate for the deficient muscle strength, a hydraulic elbow support is used. This is also manufactured using a plaster cast impression. Additionally, ORTEMA offer a manufacturing service for elbow and shoulder ortheses and for the K-COM knee brace throughout Germany. Trained staff in surgical stores take the plaster cast and send it to the company, who then provide the finished product, ready for fitting. www.ortema.de

“Reclaim your life” – under this catch-all, Ottobock have brought out an impressive range of mechatronic products. The core idea behind these systems is to encourage and support amputees to reclaim aspects of their lives. One example of this is the new C-Leg 4. It builds on the tried and tested C-Leg technology, but extends the areas of application in everyday life through additional functionality, thus offering greater independence.

Ottobock_Sportprodukte_Laufprothesensystem.jpg With their 3S80 Sport knee joint and the Runner running and sprinting blade, Ottobock have developed a dedicated prosthetic system for competitive and leisure sportsmen and women, adults and children alike. The sports knee joint with low-viscosity oil (3S80=1) is particularly suitable for competitive sprinters and for children, who do not yet have the strength to generate the swing phase well enough. The Runner is available for adults and young people (1E91) and for children (1E93, 15 to 45 kg). The foundations for the high-quality and highly functional sports products from Ottobock lie in what has been learned from close cooperation with leading sportsmen and women. The manufacturers have been partners and sponsors of the Paralympic Games since 1988.

Ottobock_DVS System.jpg The Dynamic Vacuum System (DVS) is an active negative pressure system for prostheses worn by transtibial amputees. It adjusts automatically to the individual level of activity – both in the swing and stance phases. After just a few paces, a permanent state of negative pressure is induced, thus reducing pistoning in the socket to a minimum. This ensures additional security and increases awareness of feedback from the ground. The DVS is best used with a ProFlex knee sleeve, which has been adapted both functionally and visually. No certification is required and technicians can fit the DVS using all the usual current techniques for plaster cast impressions.

Ottobock_Kenevo.jpg Kenevo was designed for those wishing to 'walk secure' – an intelligent knee joint for users with low levels of mobility. It is the first multi-sensor knee joint for lower mobility levels (Mobis 1 and 2) in the world and is intended for use in therapeutic care immediately following amputation. Kenevo offers extreme security and adapts to the increasing capabilities which the user acquires during rehabilitation. In addition, the joint also adapts to the user's changing capabilities in cases of declining mobility. Three activity profiles are available, enabling Kenovo to be precisely adjusted to individual requirements. In all of the activity profiles there are additional basic functions that are permanently engaged. Integrated use with the 1C11 Terion K2 prosthetic foot provides an ideal combination. The Agilium Freestep treads new paths in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. In contrast to previous treatments for arthritic knee conditions, it is not put round the knee, but attached at the foot. It reduces pain, increases mobility and provides support both in everyday tasks and during more strenuous activity with increased loading. The orthosis has recently been improved in various practical details. The focus of the development has been on optimised ergonomics and convenience in use. In addition, it is now available in a new, slimline and stylish design. www.ottobock.com

Outlast Europe GmbH: Intelligent textiles for orthopaedic products

Outlast_produktpalette.tif Not too hot and not too cold: Outlast Europe (Heidenheim) are showcasing the advantages of temperature-regulating phase change materials (PCM). These ensure an optimum climatic environment and mitigate unpleasant temperature swings. The formation of sweat can thus be drastically reduced. Intelligent textiles have now found their way into a host of everyday situations, from outer clothing to shoes. New, however, is their inclusion in orthopaedic products.

Page 22: OTWorld 2016: The sector's showcase for …2016/05/06  · OTWorld International Trade Fair and World Congress (3 to 6 May 2016) Leipzig, 19 February 2016 OTWorld 2016: The sector's

A pioneer of PCM technology is the US company Outlast Technologies LLC (Golden, Colorado). PCMs were originally developed for NASA, to protect astronauts from violent temperature swings in space. Essential to their effectiveness is dynamic management of temperature and moisture through the use of special materials, which pro-actively absorb excessive heat, store it and yield it up again when required. In this way, Outlast® materials continually monitor and manage the amount of heat available and, with it, the temperature of the skin. One special feature is that they begin to work the moment sweat is produced. This means that moisture is not only regulated by sweat being wicked away from the skin; keeping the same temperature distribution minimises the production of sweat in the first place. At OTWorld 2016, Outlast will be exhibiting their complete range of coated products, including fibres, which create a dry personal environment and a feeling of comfortable well-being. www.outlast.com

Perpedes GmbH: New products from the land of experimenters and inventors Perpedes GmbH (Kirchheim/Teck) are coming to OTWorld with a huge repertoire of new products and ideas. Alongside their 3D Scanner CMT03, the new Sandwich 4.0 manufacturing concept and their Therapy Shoes, there are now also other innovations available in the Worker² and Daily ranges of orthopaedic insoles.

Perpedes_Scanner_OTWorld.png The new CMT03 3D Scanner combines two radically different measuring techniques: it records both the 3D geometry of the foot as well as its texture. What makes this scanner especially versatile is its ability to measure the patient's foot under full, partial and zero load, as well as taking a foam impression of the footprint. Its ability to link with the Soletec web-based design software and its portability (it weighs only 7 kg) afford maximum flexibility and mobility for creating individualised orthopaedic insoles for therapeutic purposes. The Sandwich 4.0 combines Perpedes' key technologies. Tried and tested compound fibre substrates are combined with individually shaped upper components. These upper layers can be designed to individual specification using the Soletec software. By adapting additional features to the moulded thermoplastic layer, the manufacturing process makes it possible to meet the patient's individual needs ever more specifically and individually. Various concepts for sensory-motor functions in insoles can equally well be combined with the dynamic insole shells made from composite materials. A new logical development of the Soletec web-based design software now contains a tool for sensory-motor functionality, making it a quick and easy matter to create the desired shape. 2D data, taken from components made by other manufacturers can be used as a basis for design work. As for their Therapy Shoes, Perpedes are presenting their multi-width system for the inclusion of orthopaedic insole inserts, as well as foot and leg orthoses with various degrees of strength and rigidity. The Therapy Shoes are now offered in sizes 20 to 48, in three different widths and in an optimised fitting. The width of the inner sole is adjusted to the orthopaedic requirements of the therapy.

Perpedes_Explosion_Worker.png The re-vamped Worker range of insoles is now called Worker2 and benefits from the addition of a new model – an orthopaedic shoe for heel spur conditions, based on the market-leading Calca Pro X with in-built fascia relief and shock-absorbent material. The hard-wearing upper covering is remarkable for its high moisture absorbency and anti-bacterial properties; it is pollutant free and ecologically acceptable. A new kind of foam, with outstanding shock-absorbent qualities, has been introduced as an intermediate layer. The underlayer has been made from an easily-worked EVA to facilitate fitting. Perpedes have also given their Daily range a makeover, in terms of both looks and functionality. Combined with the insole shells in layers of malleable thermoplastic fibre-glass composite, the forefoot area has been strengthened and is the more robust as a result, even when thinner covering layers are used. For the treatment of splay-foot conditions the MFK I and V have been lowered and the transverse arch has been slightly raised. www.perpedes.de

TDO Therapy: ʺTDO THERAPY Protective Sheathʺ for the feet

TDO THERAPY.JPG For the first time in Europe, the Turkish company TDO THERAPY (Istanbul) will be introducing at Leipzig the patented technology which it uses in its shoes. The sheath has three layers: a soft upper made from high-grade calf’s leather, a middle layer made of special sponge with a thickness of two millimetres and a density of 80, and an inner layer of calf’s leather. The way the sheath is designed helps it quickly to take on the shape of the foot and to minimise the pressure from the shoe. In addition, it quickly regulates the warmth of the foot and body, its ventilation holes allow sweat to be absorbed, and it minimises the risk of neuropathy by protecting your feet. www.tdotherapy.com.tr

The Ohio Willow Wood Company: Advanced socket technology and extra comfortable liners The US company WillowWood (Mt. Sterling/Ohio) is bringing the ground-breaking WillowWood® One System and Alpha SmartTemp® Liner featuring Outlast® on board for Leipzig.

WillowWood One demo socket-vacuum.jpg The WillowWood® One System equips transfemoral amputees with advanced socket technology. This controls pistoning, delays the onset of sweat and allows a broad range of movement, while at the same time ensuring a secure socket fit. The development and testing of the system was initiated through a grant from the U.S. Veterans Administration and was carried out over 26 months. It included clinical tests with more than 40 clinical test participants with varying levels of activity. The WillowWood One System includes a fabric-free Alpha SmartTemp® Liner, a gel sock, a seal, a definitive socket and a removable brim. The system can be fitted as a suction system or with elevated vacuum. These elements work together as a whole

to provide transfemoral amputees with reliable and safe vacuum suspension. Certification is required in order to purchase and fit the WillowWood One System.

WillowWood_Alpha SmartTemp Liner_BK.jpg The Alpha SmartTemp® Liner featuring Outlast® is characterised by an unusual level of comfort and temperature control. The Alpha SmartTemp Liners combine silicone with the technology of Outlast®, which was developed for NASA to protect astronauts from extreme fluctuations in temperature. The liners help to maintain a pleasant skin temperature all day long. Usually prosthetic liners function like insulators and keep residual limbs warm within the prosthesis, which can lead to sweating. The Alpha SmartTemp Liner featuring Outlast® absorbs and stores warmth from the residual limb and delays the onset of sweat build up. How long the start of sweating can be delayed depends on an amputee’s level of activity, the environment and individual metabolism. www.willowwoodco.com

THUASNE DEUTSCHLAND GmbH New orthoses and epitheses for the best possible patient care The company THUASNE DEUTSCHLAND (Burgwedel) has expanded yet again its already innovative selection of products with a multitude of trend-setting solutions, which it will be presenting at the OTWorld exhibition. Among these are the knee orthosis Genu PFS PROMASTER, the wrist orthosis Ligaflex Pro, and the breast epithesis SILIMA® soft & light supersoft.

THUASNE_Genu PFS ProMaster.jpg The Genu PFS PROMASTER enhances the Red Dot Design Award-winning PROMASTER line. The knee brace was developed together with doctors, technicians and therapists in order to treat patellofemoral pain syndrome. It incorporates a device to align the knee joint by generating a uniform lateral pressure on the patella, which can be adjusted according to individual need. The anatomically shaped patella pad supports movement control. In addition, flat hinges, with extension stops integrated into the side, stabilise the knee joint. In this way, the

Genu PFS corrects and protects the path of the patella, reduces pain, and relieves strain. The 3D knitted fabric, which is typical of all PROMASTER bandages, guarantees the best possible fit. The double-sided inner tabs are a new feature and help with putting the brace on. A leg strap ensures a secure fit and minimises the risk that the orthosis will slip. The exercises that come with the brace help to train the stability and function of the knee joint.

THUASNE_Ligaflex Pro.jpg The Ligaflex Pro orthosis provides wrist treatment with Boa® technology for conditions such as sprains or post-traumatic irritations. The stabilising splint integrated into the palm and the dorsal stabilising rods immobilise the wrist, preventing flexion and extension as well as ulnar and radial abduction. Owing to the innovative and flexible drawstring closure device with Boa® technology, the orthosis can be taken on and off easily and adapted effortlessly to different swelling conditions. A Velcro® fastener makes it possible to open and close every part of the orthosis quickly. The Ligaflex Pro can be used equally for the left and right hand. It comes in just two sizes, catering for wrist circumferences of 13 to 23 cm.

THUASNE_SILIMA soft&light super soft-front.jpg Exceptional softness is a distinguishing feature of the SILIMA® SOFT & LIGHT SUPER SOFT. The supersoft lightweight breast epithesis for post-mastectomy care is even better at simulating the way in which the natural breast moves. In order to imitate, as closely as possible, the soft breast tissue, a lightweight silicone core has been encased in a layer of extremely soft silicone gel. The three-layered structure moulds itself without pressure to the chest wall and is therefore optimally suitable in cases where there is sensitive scar tissue. The epithesis is available in the standard A/B cup and sizes 1 to 11. www.thuasne.de

vebitosolution GmbH: New dimension in measuring technology – recording multidimensional data about the foot

vebitosolution_vebitoSCIENCE.jpg In every foot there is interplay between over 100 ligaments and tendons, about 30 bones, and more than 20 muscles. The new insole measuring devices from vebitosolution (Steinfurt) record multidimensional data about this extremely complex entity. They enable orthopaedic technicians, orthopaedic footwear technicians and general orthopaedists to get to the bottom of causes of pain, such as incorrect pressure on the foot, unsuitable footwear, and wrong treatment. Up till now, only one-dimensional data about vertical pressures could be recorded for the foot when wearing footwear. With vebito, on the other hand, the bending and torsion of the foot can be observed quickly, simply and reliably. In this way, roll-over behaviour, as well as pressure on the foot and its relief, can be observed over the whole sequence of movement – in the daily interplay with footwear and/or orthopaedic aids or during sporting activity. The wireless data transmission allows for measurements to be taken everywhere, in the surgery as well as on the sports field. The accompanying software illustrates the results on multiple axes and it

W.R. Lang GmbH: Positioning cushions minimise the risk of pressure sores

WR_Lang_Lagerungskissen.jpg W.R. Lang GmbH (Neuwied) will be presenting new aids for preventing pressure sores at the OTWorld 2016 exhibition. The positioning cushions for the upper and lower limbs, as well as the head, neck and buttock areas, are used when pressure sores (decubitus ulcers) already exist, or when it is necessary to stay in bed or in a sitting position owing to illness or disability, which can lead to a heightened risk of pressure sores. In such cases, it is particularly important that patients are turned and repositioned. The set of positioning pads offered by the W.R. Lang GmbH company, together with Sundance Solutions, make it easy to do this. A new kind of gel, incorporated in a special process, ensures that the pressure is distributed consistently and evenly over the whole surface of the positioning cushion. What is
