OSNALINE® - Tubes and Tube Bundles
OSNALINE® tubes and tube bundles are pre-fabricated tube-runs consisting of a small diameter tube or group of tubes stranded in an extruded outer jacket. Each bundle can contain up to 19 tubes in a selection of materi-als and dimensions, and can be supplied either as a standard product or custom made to meet the client’s specific requirements.

Whencorrosionandsurfaceactivityareofconcern,solutionsmustbeengineeredusingspecialalloysorsurfacetreatments.Toenhancefurtherthephysicalcharacteristicsofourstain-lesssteelcoilswehavepartneredSilcoTek®toofferspecialcoatedtubingwithaceramic-likeinnersurfacetopreventadsorptionandimprovecorrosionresistance.Asaresult,thereisanimprovedresponsetimebytheanalyserindetectingchangesoftraceamountsofactivecompounds(H2S,mercury,ammoniaandmanyothers).
SilcoNert®2000isachemicalvapor-deposited(CVD)siliconcoating,specificallydesignedtoimprovetheinertnessofstainlesssteelandothermaterialstosulphurandothertypesofchemicals.TheCVDprocessproducesaflexible,amorphoussiliconlayercapableofoperatingathightem-peraturesthatdiffusesintothemetallatticeandservesasachemicallyprotectivebarrierwithacoatingthicknessof100-250nm.Thecoatingwillconformtothemostintricatesurfaceswhilemaintaininghighdimensionaltolerances.Thesurfaceisfurtherpassivatedwithcovalentlybondedhydrocarbonmolecules.Thisallowsthetubingsurfacestomaintaintheirprotectionduringbendingandwillalsonotinterferewiththreadedorcompressionjoints;makingSilcoNert®2000theidealcoatingforprocesssampling,refinerygassampling,anddownholesamplingapplica-tions.
SilcoNert®2000treatedtubingreducesuptakebyordersofmagnitude,relativetountreatedorelectropolishedstainlesssteeltubingandalsoeliminatesmemoryeffectsinsulphuranalysis.Figure1showsthattheadsorptionofammoniaisalmostcompletelypreventedbythecoating.

Dursan®isahighdurability,wearresistant,cor-rosionresistant,andinertcoatingthatisidealforfieldsampling,process,andoil&gasappli-cations.Itofferssuperiorwearresistanceanddurabilityandextendsthelifeofstainlesssteelinharsh,corrosiveenvironments.Figure2showstheimprovedcorrosionresistanceofstainlesssteelwhereasinFigure3,Dursan®isshowntodoublethesurfacehardnessandwearresistance.Dursan’shightemperature,heatandoxi-dationresistantcoatingvirtuallyeliminatesoxi-dationofstainlesssteel;maintainingalustrousappearanceevenafterexposureto450°C.
Surfacetreatedstainlesssteelcoilspreventcorrosionoradsorptionofactivecompoundsinprocesssystems,andshouldbeconsideredinapplicationswherecorrosiveoractivestreamsaretobesampled,transferred,oranalysed;other-wise,poorsurfaceinertnesscanresultinperfor-manceissuesrangingfrompoorsensitivityandresolution,toadsorption/desorptionandcatalyticeffects.Theresultingoverallimpacttotheenduserincludesregulatorycomplianceissues,lostproduct,poorprocessyields;allofwhichcanbeavoidedbyusingKME/SilcoTekproducts.

Direct Heat Exchanger (DX)Inthe“conventionalhorizontalloopsystem”,forbestenergyefficiencyofthetwoloops,tubesarelaidatadepthof0.8-1.2munder-ground.Arefrigerantisthencirculatedthroughthesetubes,whichareconnectedstraighttotheheatpump.ThemainbenefitofOSNACOL®isthedoublewalledconstructionofthetubewiththeinneroxygendiffusionresistantcoppertubeandtheoutercoveringforexternalprotection.Ageothermalenergysystemrequiresanoutsideareaof25m²toserveaheatoutputof1kWtobeeffective.
Depth ProbeInthe“verticalloopsystem",apairofverticalU-tubesarefilledwithamixtureofwaterandglycol,whichiscirculatedinaclosedlooptotrapenergyatdepthsfrom5to150metres.Thissystemneedsthreeloopsandisdefinitelymoreexpensivecomparedtothedirectheatexchanger,butitallowstheuseofthegeothermalsystemevenwherelessspaceisavailable.
Well SystemFinally,the“wellsystem”operatesbyheatexchangewiththewaterinaquifers,oftenatdepthsof10-20metres,whichremainatthesametemperatureallyearround.Thisguaranteeshighthermalyieldsfromheatpumps.

TheR&Ddepartmentformaterialdevelopmentcoversboththetestingofnewalloysandthefurtherdevelopmentofknownones.ThegoalforsuchresearchworkistoconstantlyimproveproductsforthebenefitofourcustomersandhasthefacilitytodrawontheknowledgeandexperiencefromthewholeKMEgroup.
Thelaboratory’smeltingandcastingfacilitiesarecapableofcastingblocksupto3,000kgwhichcanbefurtherprocessedattheproduc-tionfacilities.Thismeansthatoptimalproductionparameterscanbedeterminedinadvance.Asmallrollingmillandahotforgingprocess,togetherwithannealingandsalt-bathfurnaces,areusedforthermo-mechanicaltreatmentswithinthedepartment.
Thedevelopmentofmaterialsissupportedbythefullrangeofchemicalanalysisequipment(S-OES,XRS,ICP,F-AAS,GF-AASetc.),includingmetallography,andbySEMelectronmicroscopeincludingEDXanalysissystems.Intheareaofcoatings,agalvanotechnicallaboratoryhasbeensetup.Destructivetestsprovideadditionaldata,makingitpossibletocompilecustomer-specificinformation-e.g.withtemperaturetensiletests-onparticularstressessuchasthermal/chemicalproblemsinspecificareas.
Theuniquecombinationofknow-howandlong-standingexperienceinthefieldmakesKMEahighlyqualifiedpartnerinallchallengesthatarise.
