OSCAR House Korokoro Parent Caregiver Newsletter 2019 Term 1 www.oscarhouse.co.nz Tēnā koutou & Greetings, New Children Recently we have welcomed Joy Rasmussen and Zoe and Kalim Phipps-Quazi. We hope you are enjoying being with OSCAR House. This term has been off to a wonderful start, we began our craft table with the year of the pig. The children made Chinese lanterns and coloured in pigs. We discussed the symbol and what it meant to be born in this year. Over the last few weeks we have done many more crafts such as paper plate animals, dot art and origami. The origami was a hit, with many of the children making foxes, frogs and “water bombs”. For Valentine’s Day a group made some shortbread hearts - which we all iced the following day. Yum! Most of these valentines didn’t quite make it home. Leigh brought shells she had collected over the years for the children to decorate. We put out googly eyes, pompoms and coloured permanent markers. The children made some fabulous creations. Some were mounted on cardboard looking like a shell garden. They proudly showed parents their craft work when they were picked up. We made two trips down to the swimming pool so far this term, the children thoroughly enjoyed playing with friends, noodles and balls. It was good to get out in the sunshine. The favourite games this term have been ultimate tag, peg tag and wink murderer. With the help of Nicola and her speaker the children have very much enjoyed many games of musical bumps/statues. The younger ones often having a dance during free play too. Connect 4 shots has been a hit with everyone - parents included. We have loved battling it out towards the end of the session.
