HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR 2014-15

University toppers: Mr. Vedang Kinjawdekar and Ms. Sarika Kadam secured 1st and 3

rd

rank in M.Pharm 1st Sem in Mumbai University.

GPAT results: Twelve students of B.Pharm final year qualified in GPAT – 2015.

PCI Inspection: PCI conducted inspection for undergraduate course in the month of

March 2014 and college got approval for 3 years upto 2017.

CPCSEA approval: Successful CPCSEA meeting was held on 15-4-15 and 27-9-14.

CPCSEA registration: Got renewal of CPCSEA registration ( New Reg. No.

1464/PO/E/S/11/CPCSEA) of our animal house facility from 20.05.2014 to 19.05.2017.

University approvals:

1. Dr Sudha Rathod got approval from Mumbai University as Ph.D guide .

2. Dr Mohib Khan got approval as Professor in Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

3. University approval for teaching staff Dr Snehalatha Boddu as Associate Professor was

obtained. University approvals for teaching staff Dr Vanita Kanase, Dr Sanchita Mandal

and Dr Nutan Rao as assistant professor were obtained.

4. Mr Imtiyaz ansari got approval from Mumbai University as M.Pharm guide.

Mumbai university research grants : Mumbai university research grants were received

by Dr Sudha Rathod and Dr Vandana Jain.

Research Publications: The teaching staff published number of research and review

articles.

Seminars conducted: Two seminars were conducted (i) Fundamental and modern

aspects of Pharmaceutical chemistry” on 19 August 2014 and (ii) Current scenario of

Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance” on 14 February 2015.

Personality development and career guidance seminars were organized.

Admissions in M.Pharm: Pharmaceutics 13 students, QA 8 students and Pharmacology

6 students got admitted.

Admissions in B.Pharm: All the seats of B.Pharm were filled.

College magazine: The college published its fourth edition of the magazine “Gravity”.

Rx and cultural events: Rx and cultural events were conducted with full participation of

students.

Celebrations: OCP celebrated Alumni meet, Convocation ceremony, Annual day,

Teachers day and Freshers day.

Independence day and Republic day are celebrated in the college with great splendor, joy

and respect for Mother India.

. Received Tablet Compression machine worth 10 lakhs from industry as donation

PCI Inspection

A report on PCI Inspection held on 21st and 22nd March 2014

PCI Inspector‟s Names:

1. Dr. Mallikarjuna, Principal, Manipal College of Pharmacy

2. Dr. B.S. Jayashree, Professor, Dept of Chemistry, Manipal College of Pharmacy

Day 1: 21st March 2014

On Day one both inspectors arrived at college premise at 4: 30 PM and held meeting with OCP

staff members. Every staff member‟s Self-Declaration forms with all details like, salary,

experience and PAN were noted down by the inspectors themselves.

The following suggestions were made,

1. Total number of staff is not enough when there is B. Pharm and three branch of M. Pharm is

running.

2. More senior experienced faculty is required to be recruited.

3. They were happy with the experienced existing faculty.

Day 2: 22nd March 2014.

The second day inspection started with Medicinal plant garden. They were very impressed with

the garden maintenance. The stop was at Machine rooms on the ground floor. After visiting

Machine rooms, they gave following suggestions,

1. There are not enough machinery available.

2. They suggested us to contact some nearby pharma industry and purchase their used machinery

so that students can get an idea about industry machineries.

3. There should be a pilot plant set up when there is M. Pharm( PharmaP‟ceutics) students are

working.

4. They suggested us to purchase Fluidised Bed dryer and HPLC (Gradient system)

Both the inspectors visited all the laboratories on second, third and fourth floor along with class

rooms. They were very impressed with Cleanliness of laboratories and AC class rooms with

projectors installed.

After taking round of college facilities, both of them started checking all the documents, records,

Question papers, answer-sheets, salary records, purchase records etc. The following suggestions

were made by them,

1. In Students‟ attendance registers, every teacher should sign with date and the topic of the

syllabus covered on that date.

2. Presence and absence should be marked clearly on the same day.

3. In Student‟s answer sheets, every teacher should put remark on the corner for the marks cut

for that particular question only in periodic test.

4. No question paper should be hand written.

5. Nothing should be written with pencil on the students as well as teachers attendance registers.

6. They were very happy with Pre-GPAT exams and aviskar participation of our students.

7. They were also very impressed with the number of publications made by the faculty.

The record verification got over at 1:30 PM.

IAEC MEETING

Date : 27/09/2014 Time: 10.30 AM to 3.00 PM

Place : Conference room of Oriental College of Pharmacy.

Agenda of the present IAEC Meeting was

1. Follow up of last IAEC minutes of meeting

2. Final scrutinizing and approval of protocols screened on 22.08.2014 (Total 14 protocols)

The session began with welcome and introduction by Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Rathod, Principal

Oriental College of Pharmacy.

It was noticed by IAEC members that Dr. Mrs. Sudha Rathod‟s name was not addressed as

chairperson in the letter from CPCSEA dated 31.10.2014 and so it was decided by IAEC

members to get her name approved as chairperson by CPCSEA being the Principal of the

Institution since 2010 and nominated by President of organization.

Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Rathod informed IAEC that the institution had arranged a

meeting with Dr (Mrs.) Geeta Vange CPCSEA main nominee and other expert members on

22.08.2014 for screening of total sixteen research protocols serial numbered

OCP/IAEC/2014-15/01 to serial numbered OCP/IAEC/2014-15/16.

Dr. Haladhar Dev Sarma discussed about documents and other formalities required for

renewal of CPCSEA registration of institute animal house facility.

IAEC members then took the review of the protocols submitted by students.

Two protocols OCP/IAEC/2014-15/04 and OCP/IAEC/2014-15/06 were rejected

Fourteen protocols serial numbered OCP/IAEC/2014-15/01, 02, 03, 05 and 07 to

OCP/IAEC/2014-15/16 were approved including four protocols of IIT Ph.D students and one

staff member from H.K. College Of Pharmacy.

IAEC suggested animal health certificate must be taken from animal suppliers and animals

can be reused after proper wash out period and research students should design protocol with

clear and proper objectives.

Meeting ended by thanking CPCSEA link nominee Dr. Haladhar Dev Sarma together with all

the members by Principal.

Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) meeting

11th

April 2015

The meeting of the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) was held on 11th

April 2015 at

11 am in the conference hall of the college. The following members were present:

Agenda of the present IAEC Meeting was

1. Follow up of minutes of last IAEC meeting.

2. Scrutiny and approval of submitted research protocols.

Mr Imtiyaz Ansari, Member secretary and Scientist In charge of animal facility welcomed all

the members of the Institutional ethics committee and expressed his sincere thanks to all the

members for sparing their valuable time for attending the meeting. He also appreciated

members for their co-operation and valuable suggestions for proper functioning of the IAEC.

Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Rathod, chairperson and Principal, Oriental College of pharmacy informed

all the IAEC members regarding renewal of animal house registration for three years. She

also informed implementation of suggested requirements in animal house according to

CPCSEA inspection report.

The minutes of the meeting conducted on 27-09-2014 were discussed.

IAEC members critically reviewed the protocols submitted by M. Pharm Sem-II students.

They ensured that the requested animal requirement is properly justified and other relevant

information pertaining to the study protocol is provided. Six protocols serial numbered

modification and then resubmission of the protocols after modification for final approval.

Recommendations by LIC Committee for University Permanent Affiliation on 7th

November 2014.

1. The committee asked for total 17 approved teaching staff for U.G. Programme.

2. According to committee, NBA accreditation is a must. Even if button is submitted after

furnishing all the required information in the format, will suffice the purpose.

3. PF and gratuity to the staff be given.

4. Leave record should be maintained in the service book.

5. Professor : Associate professor ratio should be 1:4 for UG programme.

COCURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

1. Orientation Programme (For First Year B.Pharm 2014-15)

As per the trend of the Oriental college of Pharmacy 1st year Orientation program was

held on 2nd August 2014 at Seminar hall, ground floor at 10 am. Program was headed by

Principal Dr. (Mrs). SudhaRathod.

All the students of first year B. Pharm. along with their parents were present for the

orientation. Dr. SudhaRathod has introduced pharmacy, importance of pharmacy profession,

Oriental education society along with Vision, Mission and Quality policy to all. She gave all

details about facilities provided by the college along with different laboratories, their facilities,

instrument availability, library facility, classrooms and all the teaching staff. She gave an

overview about curricular and co- curricular activities carried out during whole year.

Students and parents were given full idea about new syllabus and the examination

pattern. They have informed about the 75% compulsory attendance. For that consent forms were

duly signed by all the parents.

Principal has further introduced about different PG courses run by college along with

different research work carried out and different grants received.

At the last parents and all the students were requested to ask any questions. All the

answers were satisfactorily given by faculty members.

One day seminar on “Fundamental and Modern Aspects of Pharmaceutical Chemistry”

Oriental College of Pharmacy, Sanpada, Navi Mumbai has organized one day seminar on

“Fundamental and Modern Aspects of Pharmaceutical Chemistry” on Friday, 22nd

August 2014.

Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Rathod, Convener & Principal of OCP, Sanpada, welcomed all dignitaries,

guests & delegates. In her address, she gave an insight into how to plan career and move ahead.

Students should first aim at becoming good human beings & think and act positively. She shared

her experience of learning the chemistry subject & also shared tips & tricks to learn the

structures. She explained her expectations from UG & PG students & encouraged the students to

develop critical thinking & professional attributes.

Mr. Amjad Ali, Organizing Secretary of the seminar, Head, Department of Pharmaceutical

Chemistry welcomed all speakers, guests & students from various colleges. In his introductory

speech he explained that this seminar would provide a platform for interactions between students

and experts, in drug discovery approaches, enzyme, drug metabolism & prodrug strategy

concepts & applications.

The seminar had overwhelming response & total 173 post graduate students from various

colleges like ICT, BVCOP, SVBCP, VES, OCP, Gehlot attended this highly successful event.

The seminar included eminent speakers from academia who delivered talk on “Fundamental &

Modern aspect of Pharmaceutical Chemistry”. Dr. Krishna Iyer, Professor, Pharmaceutical

Chemistry, Bombay College of Pharmacy, spoke on “Introduction to CYP450” & “Basic

principles of enzyme kinetics”. He explained the basic roles of enzymes in metabolism in a very

interesting presentation.

Dr. (Mrs.) C. S. Ramma, Professor, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, BVCOP, Navi Mumbai,

delivered talk on topic “Prodrug strategy: Concept & application”. She explained basic concepts

& prodrug strategies with applications.

Dr. Rakesh Somani, Associate Professor & Head, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, VESCOP,

Chembur spoke on “Approaches in Drug Discovery” & explained various approaches like lead

optimization, QSAR, Mee too Drug, Bio isosters, etc.

Seminar was successfully organized with co-ordination of Dr. Nutan Rao, Mr. Hemchandra

Chaudhari, Dr. Snehalata Boddu and Mr. Amey Deshpande . Dr. Nutan Rao hosted the program.

Program concluded with vote of thanks given by Dr. Mohib Khan.

A REPORT ON ONE DAY SEMINAR ON “CURRENT SCENARIO OF

PHARMACEUTICAL QUALITY ASSURANCE”

A one day seminar on “Current scenario of Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance” was held at

Oriental College of Pharmacy, Sanpada, Navi Mumbai, on 14th

Feb 2015

The main objective of this seminar was to enrich the participants about the fundamental aspects

of Quality Assurance that plays a vital role in the drug discovery and formulation development.

The sessions are destined to have expert deliberations on Bioanalytical method validation,

Process Validation, Pharmacokinetics and QbD that help young scholars, teachers, and scientists

from academia and persons from industry to develop an insight into Pharmaceutical Quality

Assurance.

Dr. Sasikumar Menon, Asst. Director, TDM Lab, Sion has graced the occasion as chief guest and

also as speaker on Method Validation and its practice. Other eminent speakers were Dr. Krishna

R. Iyer, Professor, Bombay College of Pharmacy, Mumbai, Mrs. Usha Rao, General Manager,

Corporate Q.A., Charak Pharma Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai and Mrs. Madhura Barve, Sr. Manager,

Charak Pharma Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai.

As per the program convener, Dr. (Mrs) Sudha Rathod, Principal, Oriental College of

Pharmacy,the present seminar explores many facets of pharmaceutical quality assurance along

with practical approach for the problems encountered in routine analytical method development.

The organizing secretary Mrs. Snehal Kane and Dr. Snehalatha Boddu also highlighted the

importance of quality assurance in pharmaceutical field.

4.CONVOCATION CEREMONY AND ALUMNI MEET: A REPORT

Oriental Education Society‟s, Oriental College of Pharmacy & Oriental Pharma Alumni

Association (OPAA) celebrated convocation ceremony and alumni meet on Monday, 2nd

Feb.

2015. The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. (Mrs) Sudha Rathod, with the co-

ordination and co-operation of Mr. Amjad Ali, Secretary of OPPA, Mr. Imtiyaz Ansari, Member

of OPAA and Student‟s Council from 03.00 P.M. to 06:00 PM at OCP auditorium, Sanpada Navi

Mumbai.

The event was graced by Chief Guest, Dr. (Mrs.) S.S. Bhalerao, Ex- Principal L.H.

Hirandani College of Pharmacy, Ulhasnagar, Guest of honour, Mr.Sukumar Roy ,General

Manager R&D, Kopran Research Center, Khopoli, Dr. F.A. Shaikh,, Principal Oriental college

of commerce, Mrs. Vijya Patil, I/C Principal B.Ed college and Dr. (Mrs) Sudha Rathod,

Principal Oriental College of Pharmacy who presided over the convocation ceremony and alumni

meet.

Principal Dr. (Mrs) Sudha Rathod, addressed the alumni gathering, mentioned the academic

developments of the college and requested the alumni to contribute time, money, resources for

the college. Mr.Amjad Ali (secretary OPAA), in his speech mentioned aims and objectives,

reports and future plans of OPAA and thanks all alumni and students for spending time and

gracing the event with their presence. Mr. Imtiyaz Ansari (member OPAA), in his speech

explained reason of arrangement of the event on Monday and appealed all alumni for their

continuous contribution in the development of college.

Mr. Vedang and Mrs. Padmaja, M.Pharm Students introduced chief guest and guest of

honour and other dignitaries.

The chief guest, Dr. (Mrs.) S.S. Bhalerao, told alumni and students regarding success and

failure in life and highlighted important points of success in real life. The guest of honour,

Mr.Sukumar Roy, told alumni and students regarding importance and good qualities of students

required by pharma industries.

Ex-students shared their experiences and expertise which was very valuable for the current

batch students. Mr. Shailesh Pandey alumni of batch 2014 shared his views which were

informative and interactive. Ms. Nikitha Narayanan first topper student of batch 2014 shared her

views regarding college and teaching and non teaching staffs.

All the students of previous batch were conferred on with B.Pharm degrees (Convocation

certificates) by hands of Chief Guest, Dr. (Mrs.) S.S. Bhalerao, Guest of Honour, Mr.Sukumar

Roy, Dr. F.A. Shaikh and Dr. (Mrs) Sudha Rathod. The alumni were presented with the life

membership certificates of OPAA. The program concluded by vote of thanks given by Dr.

Mohib Khan.

5.PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

A personality development programme was organized for the First Year BPharm and second

year BPharm students by Oriental College of Pharmacy. This was conducted by Mrs. Vasudha

Jaka,Dr.Sudha Rathod and Mr. Sayed Mateen played an important role in making this

1. A DAY FOR THE TEACHERS

September,2014, Friday

Venue: Seminar Hall, Oriental College of Pharmacy.

Organized by: Student Council.

Students of Oriental College of Pharmacy organized an event to celebrate

Teacher‟s Day on 5th

September, 2014. In the morning session, students were made to take

lectures on their favourite subjects in respective B Pharm and M Pharm classes. The program

was continued in afternoon session in seminar hall which started with the welcome speech by

Mr. Punit Jain, General Secretary of the Student Council. It was followed by lighting of lamp by

Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Rathod and the respective HOD‟s. The program proceeded with the

blessings of Goddess Saraswati by a pleasant song „Saraswati Vavdana‟ by Ms. Bhagyashree

Phadke followed by Speech on Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan by Ms.Prakruta Panchal.

Anchoring was carried out beautifully by Ms.Prakruta Panchal and Ms. Ambika Shah. The

program continued by giving the token of love, floral bouquet and chocolates as a gratitude to

the teaching and non teaching staff for putting their efforts.

Ms. Diksha Kanojiya recited a beautiful poem dedicated to teachers.

After the performance a cake cutting ceremony was organized, the teachers were then thanked by

giving greeting cards made by the students of respective classes.

The best part of the program was the tongue twisters games and OCP awards for teachers and

this was indeed a great surprise. The Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Rathod and teachers expressed

their feelings by saying few words. Their words made us to accept Teacher‟s Day as a day of

thanks giving- a day to bow down and thank their endless and dedicated service to the students.

The celebrations ended with a vote of thanks and snacks and thus the day ended with a smile on

teachers face.

2.FRESHERS PARTY – 2014

6th

September 2014, Saturday

Jovial smiles and high spirits marked the welcome party for the 2014-2015 batch

of Oriental College of Pharmacy. The party was organized in the college premises on 6th

of

September, 2014 manifested youth and enthusiasm at its full flow. With pulsating ambience,

flashing light and foot taping music, the party began with a blast. The dress code for the students

was black and white. Inquisitive about campus life and conscious of the latest fashion trends, the

fresher dressed their best.

The seniors had organized some fun games, some freshers were rapidly called upon to

participate and this event was widely enjoyed. It was a fun filled event at which the freshers got

an opportunity not only to showcase their talents but also to interact with the seniors. The

program kick started with a ramp walk for which the contestants vied for the Mr. and Miss

Fresher 2014 title. In the Questionnaire round the contestants had to prove that they were person

with beauty and brains and had the presence of mind and confidence. At the end of the very

enjoyable competition Ahmad Shaikh and Monika Bhalerao were crowned as the Mr. and

Miss Fresher 2014.

After the competition it was the freshers and the seniors to rock the freshers party with the jam

session. The magic in the air turned into the chords of pulsating rhythmic hearts and bonds for

the year that lay ahead. The party was all about making the best start to the new academic year.

A time to create ever-lasting relationship with each other. The event was an indication of union

among the students. Unity is the main motto of our college. Being a part of the freshers, made

students feel the magic of unity and togetherness. Finally the program ended with a vote of

thanks leaving behind sweet memories that will be cherished lifelong.

3. Cultural week and Annual day report “Gravity 2014-15”

Students of Oriental college of Pharmacy had their college fest “GRAVITY” in the

month of January. This fest was celebrated for 7 days starting from 19th

Jan‟2014 - 24th

Jan‟2014.

To create an environment for the fest the college was beautifully decorated. For active

participation of students in the fest, points system for each event was prepared; points were given

accordingly to the winning class. There was active participation from all the six classes i.e. 1st

year, 2nd

year, 3rd

year, final year B.PHARM classes and the 1st and 2

nd year M.PHARM classes.

The fest began on the 19th

Jan 2015 with the celebration of the social event –Plantation day. On

this day the college Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Rathod along with the HOD‟s, teaching and non-

teaching staff including the student council planted few saplings of plants in the college

medicinal garden. On the same day events like rangoli, mehendi, essay writing and poetry

writing competition were also held. Further in the afternoon a Mismatch day was celebrated

where majority of the students participated actively in the mismatch day walk. On 20th

Jan,

jersey day was celebrated. The events held on this day were board decoration, ad mad and best

out of waste. The students were involved in the events with lots of creative ideas and great

enthusiasm. On 21st Jan black and white day was celebrated. Nail art, Painting, Master chef and

collage competitions were held. Teaching and non-teaching staff also participated in the events

on this day. On 22nd

Jan the cap and scarf day along with chocolate day was celebrated. Musical

chair competition was organized for teaching and non-teaching staff. Singing and avatar

competitions were organized along with DJ for students. On 23rd

Jan the traditional day was

celebrated. The events held on this day were debate, quiz, antakshari. Rose stall along with rose

cards were also put up to celebrate rose day. Everyone was dressed beautifully in a very

traditional look to present an elegant traditional walk to end the day. All the faculty members

judged the respective events. Finally 24th

Jan, the day of main event “GRAVITY NIGHT 2015”

arose, which was to be celebrated in the evening. This was the day, all students eagerly awaited

to celebrate. For the night, events like solo dance, duet dance, group dance and fashion show

were held. The chief guest for the evening was Mr. Sathyanarayan Vemula, CEO, V-Ensure and

Mr. F A Sheikh, Principal; Sanpada College of Commerce was our guest of honor. The formal

function began with the lightening of lamp. The event continued with felicitation of Chief Guest,

Principal, Guest of Honor, Cultural in charge, Sports in charge and General secretary. The event

was followed by the speech of Chief guests Mr. Sathyanarayan Vemula and Principal Dr.(Mrs.)

Sudha Rathod. Prof. Mohib Khan expressed the Vote of thanks. It was a pleasant evening with

lots of music, dance, and lots more. The students were also felicitated for their performance for

whole year which included academics, sports and other extracurricular. This year, Best Library

User award was initiated. There was also the release of the college magazine “GRAVITY 2014-

2015” which was done by the Chief Guest, Principal, Guest of Honor, and Magazine in charges.

Delicious snacks were also arranged for everyone present at that evening including the parents.

On the whole, the Final Year B Pharm won the Cultural Trophy and Third year B Pharm won

Sports Trophy for year 2014-15.

4. Sports week

Oriental college of Pharmacy organized sports week (18th

- 23rd

January, 2015) for B. Pharm and

M. Pharm students. Its objective was to develop in the students a sporting spirit, a venue to

display their physical prowess and gain hands on experience of organizing a sports at a college in

future. The sports week was scheduled to begin at 9:00 am on 18th

Jan 2015. Though it was a

Sunday students participated enthusiastically in volleyball, Throw ball and Box cricket. The

judges for the sports were Mr. Ganesh Deshmukh, Mr. Sayyed Mateen and Mr. Ehtesham Kazi.

They guided all the sports events of the day with their fair and unbiased judgment. They

patiently explained the rules of the games scheduled and graced the sports week with their

expertise. Student volunteers participated with great zeal for the smooth flow of all the sport

events throughout the week. During the week sports were organized at morning session and

cultural programs in afternoon.

On the second day of sports i.e. 19th

On 23rd

Jan treasure hunt was organized. During the sports week teaching and non-

teaching staff also played and participated in several sport events. It was an exciting week for the

students and staff as well, which was filled with lots of nostalgic memories. It highlighted the

importance of the sports and a sporting spirit to the students. The prize distribution ceremony

was organized on 24th

Jan, i.e. “GRAVITY NIGHT 2015”. After announcement of the winners

the medals and certificate was distributed by Chief guests Mr. Sathyanarayan Vemula, Principal

Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Rathod, Professor Dr. Mohib Khan and Sayyed Mateen to the winners of each

event. Overall best performance in all events was also awarded and the winning team was also

applauded. Third year B. Pharm won the Sports Trophy for the year 2014-15.

PHO related activities

Various Health awareness campaign was organized & volunteered by the students of Oriental

College of pharmacy in the year 2014-2015

1. Blood donation campaign: Blood donation campaigns were organized at 5 different

places. Students from our college volunteered for the same & we collected around 61

bottles of blood. The camp was organized at following venue in association with Indian

Pharmaceutical Association Ghatkopar- Samarpan Blood Bank- 61 bottles (organized on

2nd

September 2014, published in DNA Navi Mumbai supplement on 4th

September 2014)

2. Anti- AIDS Campaign: Anti-AIDS campaign was organized on 1st Dec, 2014 on

occasion of world AIDS day at Sanpada. Volunteers carried out a rally from Oriental

college of Pharmacy to Sanpada Station to create awareness using Posters and banners.
