A Mission at Calvary “The Bible clearly states ‘all have sinned.’ It is my nature to sin, and it is yours too. None of us is untainted. Because of sin, we’ve all hurt ourselves, we’ve all hurt other people, and others have hurt us. This means each of us need repentance and recovery in order to live our lives the way God intended.

You’ve undoubtedly heard the expression that ‘time heals all wounds.’ Unfortunately, it isn’t true.… The truth is – time often makes things worse. Wounds that are left untended fester and spread infection throughout your entire body. Time only extends the pain if the problem isn’t dealt with.

What we need is a biblical and balanced program to help people overcome their hurts, habits and hang-ups.” Rick Warren, Senior Pastor Saddleback Church

For these reasons we have a mission at Calvary Baptist Church called Celebrate Recovery. Our CR program addresses all types of habits, hurts and hang-ups. Some recovery programs deal only with alcohol or drugs or another single problem. But CR is a “large umbrella” program under which a limitless number of issues can be dealt with. At Calvary Baptist Church, only one out of five who attend CR are dealing with alcohol or drugs.

17,000 churches participate in CR world wide. Over 700,000 participants have gone through CR.

Please come and join us on Monday evenings 7 - 9 PM in Crosstown.

Upcoming events :

October 29, starting at 6 PM will be an ‘open house’ fellowship event with the CR team. Simply, bring a dish to share.

Life’s Healing Choices – a 10 week study to be offered on Sun-day Evenings this Winter / Spring. Life’s Healing Choices presents 8 biblically based principles / 8 Choices that will change your life. This is not a replacement for working the CR program, but rather a small group Bible study in a Sunday School setting to get a quick, solid understanding of what Celebrate Recovery is all about.

Calvary Celebrates the Ordination of Robert Hampshire and Brady Rose

After receiving approval from the Pastoral Council and a unanimous vote of the congregation at the September 16, 2012 Business Meeting, the Ordination Council is scheduled to meet at 1:00 pm., Saturday, November 10, 2012.

Upon favorable recommendation of the Council, the church will proceed in a public service to recognize God’s call in setting apart of Robert Hampshire and Brady Rose for the work of the Lord. The public service will be conducted the following day, Sunday, November 11, at the regularly scheduled Sunday morning Celebration Worship Service. Our special guest speakers

that morning will be Dr. Elmer Towns, Liberty

University’s co-founder and dean of Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and School of Religion and Bubba Rose of Oasis Church.

Pastor Randy Spencer has given much prayer and preparation for the formation of a highly qualified and competent Ordination Council of experienced pastors, seminary professors, Southern Baptist Associational leaders and delegates.

The ordination of men called of God to the ministry of the Word is a vital responsibility of the local church. “…If a man desires the office of a bishop, he desires a good work” (1 Timothy 3:1). Honored and blessed is that church which, by God’s grace, has young men who respond to the call of God for His service, and who prepare themselves for that work. It is further cause for rejoicing when that person is recognized by the church after being carefully examined as to conversion, calling, doctrine, life and preparation for ministry.

Robert Hampshire, our student pastor,

has requested to become ordained into the gospel ministry and specifically commissioned by Calvary Baptist Church for full-time Christian service.

The Ordination Council and public celebration on Sunday also includes the ordination of

Brady Rose, Associate Pastor of Oasis Church

of Amherst, VA. The Oasis Church of Amherst will be the ordaining and commissioning church for Brady Rose.

Presently the Examining Council will consist of the following: Rev. Bubba Rose – Lead pastor of Oasis Church in Amherst, VA

Dr. Elmer Towns - Dean of School of Religion and Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary

Dr. Don Fowler – Professor at Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA

Rev. Carl Weiser- Lead Pastor of Highland Heights Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA

Pastor John Welborn – Lead pastor of Calvary Cross-link in Harrisonburg, VA

Dr. Mark Simpson- Lead pastor of MorningStar Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio

Dr. Lindsey Powell – Lead pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Chesterfield, SC

Rev. Marshall Braylo in Staunton, VA

Dr. Randy R. Spencer – Lead pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Staunton, VA

Pastor Bobby Campbell – Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Staunton, VA

Pastor Randy Wagner – Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Staunton, VA

Pastor Rob Spencer – Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Staunton, VA

Members of the Pastoral Council of Calvary Baptist Church of Staunton, VA

Delegates of the Oasis Church of Amherst, VA

We are looking forward to a great time of celebration and spiritual service as we witness the ordination and commissioning of these two dynamic young men. You will not want to miss the

Sunday morning service scheduled for November 11.
