Organisational Profile

PDR Engineers is a professional consultancy providing structural, civil and geotechnical engineering services. It was established in 1999 by one of the firm’s Principals, Mr Peter De Roma whose expertise is predominantly in civil/structural design and construction of municipal infrastructure. Dr Terry Medhurst is the other principal, whose focus is on geotechnical engineering and design in mining and civil projects.

PDR provides services across several industry sectors including local, state and federal governments, commercial development and the resources sector. We have a long history in the provision of public infrastructure including community structures, water, sewerage, roads, drainage and other municipal infrastructure in the Torres Strait, Cape region and Cairns. In the resources sector, PDR provides services to a range of clients that include most of the major mining companies with direct experience in many projects across Australia and the Asia Pacific Region. These services include feasibility studies, geotechnical mine design, mine waste management and infrastructure projects. PDR is one of the largest employers of professional engineers in Cairns with approximately 200 years of combined experience supported by a number of technical and administration staff. The company prides itself on being innovative and a leading technical provider with a particular specialty on delivering projects in remote areas. In particular, our ability to provide an integrated service across three major engineering disciplines is unique and a key to delivering successful projects in the region. In 2014, PDR were awarded project of the year under $5M by the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (Queensland) and Project of the Year in Far North Queensland by the Institute of Engineers Australia.

Technical and Physical Capacity PDR has a strong reputation for delivering small to medium size projects and through this experience has become a key advisor in the process of Concept to Implementation. For example, we have been at the forefront of guiding major infrastructure decisions in the Torres Strait for the last 15 years and currently have the task of management of the Major Infrastructure Program (MIP) for the region. Similarly in the resources sector, we regularly provide to input to major capital projects, assist in mine technical services, conduct technical reviews with significant experience in due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. We maintain a multi-disciplinary approach to our services through our extensive network of partner firms and sub-consultants. Our collaborators include building and civil contractors, geotechnical drilling services,

specialist mining, mechanical and electrical engineering consultants, licensed surveyors and environmental planning, laboratory testing, training coordination programs, human resources and project management. Our work is provided at the highest technical standard that includes total quality management of all projects and operates under our internal quality system. PDR maintains third party international accreditation under the DAS UKAS management system according to the requirements of AS/NZ ISO9001:2008.
