Aminohippuric acid • IUPAC name (4-Aminobenzamido)acetic acid.• C9H10N2O3 .

• It is white crystalline solid , It is soluble in water and alcohol and more soluble in acids and alkalies.

Preparation and uses• PAH free acid prepared with the addition of sodium

hydroxide; it has a pH of 6.7- 7.6.(HCL).

• The sodium aminohippurate injection after sodium bisulphate is added to prevent the darkening of the solution.It is given intravenously in 2 g dose for renal (kidney)function determination.

UsesBromsulphthalein is a dye used in liver function tests. Determining the rate of removal of the dye from the blood stream gives a measure of liver function.

Uses• Metyrapone is a drug used for test of pitutiary function test.• First this durg stoppedP-450 enzymes

(metyrapone is metabolized by P-450 enzymes).• Single-dose overnight metyrapone test:

30 mg/kg body weight metyrapone is given orally at 11 PM.• Standard metyrapone test: 750 mg metyrapone is given orally every 4 hours for 24 hours, starting 8 AM.
