Order of Worship

One Voice: Beloved as we gather today for worship, let us rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Many Voices: We realize that the old saints were right, prayer does change things. Therefore we commit to communicating our adoration, thanks, confessions, and supplications to the one who has the power to answer our prayers. One Voice: Let us never pray using fancy words and vain repetitions for the purpose of being admired by our worshipping neighbors. Instead let your prayer language be sincere and praiseworthy as we inter-cede on behalf of others to God.

Many Voices: We know that prayer is a two way street. It requires us at times to share our thoughts and concerns. It also requires us to be silent so we can hear God’s response.

One Voice: Our faith is not in the acts of prayer but in the one we pray to. Therefore let us always be mindful that the effectual and fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much with God. All Voices: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one. Amen

MINISTER: What common experience leads us to spiritual fellowship and covenant relationship with God and one another?

CONGREGATION: Having been led, as we believe by the spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly, and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

MINISTER: By what pledge do we turn from the ways of the world?

CONGREGATION: We promise, therefore by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love.

MINISTER: What are some of the privileges and duties in this our church?

CONGREGATION: To strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort, to promote its prosperity and spirituality, to sustain its worship, ordinances, disciplines and doctrines.

MINISTER: What vows do we gladly make as stewards of that which God has entrusted to us?

CONGREGATION: To contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expense of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.

MINISTER: For the sake of our homes and our loved ones, what tasks do we humbly assume?

CONGREGATION: To maintain family and secret devotion; to religiously educate our children, to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances.

MINISTER: For the sake of the unsaved for whom Christ died to what manner of life and conversation are we solemnly pledged?

CONGREGATION: To walk circumspectly in the world, to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger, to abstain from the sale and use of intoxicating drink as a beverage, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.

MINISTER: Since He is our Master, even Christ and we all are brethren, by what fraternal ministries are we to strengthen each other and adorn the teachings of our Lord and Savior?

CONGREGATION: We further engage, to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer, to aid each other in sickness and distress, to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.

MINISTER: For the good of our own spiritual development, and for the best interests of the Master’s kingdom, what do we promise to do if we move beyond the reach of this church?

CONGREGATION: We moreover engage, that when we remove from this place we will as soon as possible unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s word.

ALL TOGETHER: We pray for forgiveness of our past sins, and for grace and strength to keep these vows for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. And now unto him, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, be power and glory forever. Amen
