Orascom File Serving


Setting up the computing and networking infrastructure for

Orascom FS

Preamble

Orascom File serving is a project initiated by ORASCOM. The project mainly aims

to provide a multi facet file serving service to all orascom users and customers in a

secured way, granting also all needed integrity and confidentiality of their data.

Overview of the project

The project would require a fully scaled proof of concept including backbone

emulation with all the services dispatched around the different company sites

without omitting the required criteria’s related to data redundancy, integrity and

confidentiality. All the internal company services should also be provided in the

context of this proof of concept.

Project Objectives

In the section below Orascom specifies the set of services and features required

with all the interaction scenarios and the use cases.

These services and features must be considered buy you proof of concept beside

ORASCOM company local services, all the services below have to be accessible

using IPv6 technology.

This set of services required from orange labs have to be considered within the

ORASCOM sites infrastructure, this infrastructure would also require:

Local Service Features

Dynamic IP allocations Provided by each site

Domain Name resolution Provided by each site, separate domain per site

Network access management Provided by each site

Intrusion Detection and

prevention

Provided by each site

Web Provided by one site , secured and highly available, directory

integration*

Host monitoring Provided by each site*

Remote Backup Differential and secured

Directory Secured , using a local self-signed certificate, used for WWW stuff

management

Voice Communication Secured and Directory Manageable

*For this set of services , both of web and file serving will be continuously used in

order to monitor the storage backend state .

Networking criteria’s: Backbone (Emulated)

The company is deployed over 6/5 sites(Host number dependent)

Each site containing at least : 1 Core Router + 1 Provider Edge + 2

Customer Edges

Backbone Core technology: MPLS

Each two of the six customer edges are using a different routing protocol.

At least three routing protocols should be considered in the emulation

Backup over Frame Relay should be implemented

Customer edges connections to core are virtually separated

Both of IPV4 and IPV6 should be supported

Eligibility and qualifying criteria

The “Notice for expression of interest” is offered for all firms or companies

interested in the implementation of computing systems and which have the

capabilities and skills to undertake such an assignment. A proven track of a record

in establishing such a system will be an asset.

Interested candidates are invited to post a file including the following documents:

1) A presentation of a general approach for carrying out the project. This

approach contains:

Scope of the project

Objectives

Resources needed (human and material resources)

Constraints and Assumptions

Cost and Its Relationship to Price

2) A technical study that contains the presentation of technical and

organizational solutions that can be adopted. This study should contain a detailed

architecture with all the products and solutions that will be installed.

3) A Work schedule that contains:

Activity definition

Activity sequencing

Activity duration estimating

Schedule development

4) The financial study that contains :

Cost appraisal (assessing the cost of all the technical and human resources

needed for the project)

Contract negotiation

Provide a presentation of the project management and the methodology chosen to

achieve the project on time within the fixed budget and requested quality.

Therefore, plan the time, the cost and the resources adequately in order to estimate

the work needed and to manage risk effectively during the project execution. The

execution of the work defined in the project management plan is needed in order

to accomplish the project objectives.
