The Unity project was done during my final year of college. The game was called Beat By Beat, a song creation game. A user would be given a selection of music samples and could select from different instruments. Each instrument is represented a colour and when a user selects a sample to use, 3d objects enter the screen creating a visual experience for the user and more audio used the greater the experience gained. All navigation and menu system was designed myself. The code snippet is a screen capture method to be used in game.

Along with the Unity project there was a lot of research done before implementing the project. Various stages such as:

- Gantt charts - User research & Persona - Target Market - Sales Pitch Presentation - Colour & typography - Technologies used - Wireframe diagrams - Layout diagrams - SSD and use case diagrams - Prototype Design

Page 6: Oran Chadwick Portfolio

Used these technologies for web applications. With a good knowledge of MVC structure, I was able to learn the Cake framework with ease. The frameworks biggest asset using the command line to setup the database to the model and setting up MVC structure with few presses of a button.

Features available: - Full MVC structures + database setup - User login with assigned user roles - Password encryption (sha-256) - User profile setup - One to one, one to many and many to many relationships

Java

User

During the latter half of my course the MVC structure was introduced and expanded on during the final year. Using Java we learned and wrote code for the model, control-ler and view without the use of a framework. By this learning method we got a better understanding of the MVC structure and what it can do.

Features learned: - User Login - Session creation - User CRUD - List View

html, css, js

Arguably the most widely known language. From first to fourth year, to presently and for the foreseeable future I will continuously learning the best practices for web design. Now with JavaScript an equal part to html and css, it has added another dynamic to web design. It has given access to be more creative on the web and is now a vital tool for web design.

Aer Effects

2 videos of similar style were created and now live on youtube. This was a collaborative piece between my manager and myself. All character designs and colour palette were done by the manager and all the animation and motion typography was done by myself. The video was a promotion piece for the company's products and was a lot of fun learning and doing.

Using Premier Pro to piece and edit the videos, this project was a great learning experience because of working with the marketing staff between different offices and learning the ani-mation skills for the video but it is not work when you enjoy doing this.

Original storyboard used for the videos.

This design was originally to be printed and was impressed with how the design came about. Using custom brush patterns you can create really nice effects rather quickly. Repeated patterns helped to enhance the design. Illustrator is a great tool for creative types especially with text based designs.

Photoshop was the first Adobe software I learned and soon after learning to use it became a favourite to use. Be it a photo manipulation, colour correction, ep covers and posters, design mockups and logo design photoshop can do it all. Also Photoshop has great use with other softwares such as 3DS Max and post production using batch editing to give images a finishing touch. Website images and logos will need simple reformatting or image type.

Premiere Pro

Images below are projects edited using Premiere Pro and a new respect for editors and the power of the editor.

Premiere Pro is a tool that I use often used with other software programs. All animation renderings from 3DS Max are brought into Premier as image sequences and then rendered out as a video. After Effects projects can be directly imported into Premiere Pro and work hand in hand with each other if needed. It is the editing of videos I enjoy and often a part of a video which is not easily recognised and appreciated.

Image Based Lighting

Using a mirror ball two images are taken, one image taken 90° of the other. This is done to eliminate the photogapher from the image The two are combined in photoshop as as HDR or EXR. Using a hdri map in 3DS provides the lighting for the scene. A backplate is applied to position the 3d objects in proportion with the image.

This is the EXR image used in the scene.

Advanced ModellingThe robot arm was created using link constraints to join the arm pieces. Terminators were used to restrict arm movement and its degree range.Picking up objects (milk carton) involved linking it to the world first and then linked to the gripper once it was touching it and would move with the gripper. Linking back to the world to release the object.WiWire parameter was used on the gripper to create the open-close action. Once the IK cahin was setup with terminators in place, the scene was animated to pick up a teapot and pour into a cup put it down and pick up the milk carton and repeat previous action and then rteturn to its original position.

Terminator used not to exceed 180°

Motion Capture and RiggingThe character was created by using the skin modifier and using the envelope method to attach the skin to the biped. The motion capture data was sourced externally and loaded onto the character.LiLive motion capture was also done using a Kinect. This had its limitations as the Kinect camera only captured what was in front of the camera, what happened behind a person was not captured.

Stereoscopic Viewing

By creating two cameras one to render for the left eye and the other to render for the right eye. Establishing the convergence plane was done by measuring the width of the screen and the distance of the camrea to the foreground (or nearest object.) Once setup the scene is Once setup the scene is rendered and brought into photoshop, left camera has its red taken out left with blue(cyan) colour. The right camera had its blue and green taken out and left with a red.
