Warning and Safety instructions

9

The electrical safety of this washing machine can only beguaranteed when continuity is complete between it and an effectiveearthing system which complies with current local and nationalsafety regulations. It is most important that this basic safetyrequirement is present and regularly tested and, where there is anydoubt, the household wiring system should be inspected by aqualified electrician. Miele cannot be held liable for theconsequences of an inadequate earthing system (e.g. electricshock).

Do not connect the washing machine to the mains electricitysupply by a multi-socket adapter, extension lead or similar. These donot guarantee the required safety of the machine (fire hazard due tothe risk of overheating).

Faulty components must only be replaced by genuine Miele spareparts. Miele can only guarantee the safety of the appliance whenMiele replacement parts are used.

The electrical socket must be easily accessible after installation sothat the machine can be disconnected from the electricity supply ifnecessary.

Unauthorised repairs could result in unforeseen dangers for theuser, for which Miele cannot accept liability. Repairs should only beundertaken by a Miele authorised service technician, otherwise anysubsequent damage will not be covered by the warranty.

If the connection cable is faulty, it must only be replaced by aMiele approved service technician to protect the user from danger.

Warning and Safety instructions

10

In the event of a fault or for cleaning purposes, the washingmachine is only completely isolated from the electricity supply when:

– it is switched off at the wall socket and the plug is withdrawn, or

– it is switched off at the mains circuit breaker.

The Miele Waterproof system protects from water damageprovided the following conditions have been met:

– The machine is correctly plumbed in and connected to theelectricity supply.

– If a fault or damage has been identified, the machine must beexamined by a competent person before further use, and repairedif necessary.

The water flow pressure must be at least 100 kPa and should notexceed 1000 kPa.

This washing machine must not be installed and operated inmobile installations (e.g. on a ship).

Do not make any alterations to the machine, unless authorised todo so by Miele.

Correct use

Do not install the washing machine in a room where there is a riskof frost. Frozen hoses may burst or split. The reliability of theelectronic control unit may be impaired at temperatures belowfreezing point.

Before using the machine for the first time, check that the transitbars at the rear of the machine have been removed (see “Installationand connection - Removing the transit bars”). During spinning, atransit bar which is still in place may result in damage to both themachine and adjacent furniture or appliances.

Turn off the tap if the machine is to be left for any length of time(e.g. holiday), especially if there is no floor drain (gully) in theimmediate vicinity.

Flooding danger. If hooking the drain hose into a wash basin, check that the water candrain off quickly enough to prevent the sink from overflowing. Makesure the drain hose is secure, so that the force of the water flowingout of the hose does not dislodge it.

Take care to ensure that foreign objects (e.g. nails, pins, coins, paper clips) do not find their way into the machine with the laundry. These may damage components of the machine (e.g. sudscontainer, drum), which in turn can result in damage to the laundry.

36

Tips on dosing

Adjust the detergent dosage to the levelof soiling of the laundry and the size ofthe load. Reduce the amount ofdetergent with smaller loads (e.g.reduce the amount of detergent by ⅓when washing a half load).

Too little detergent results in:

– laundry not getting properly cleanand with time it may become greyand hard to the touch.

– a build-up of mould in the washingmachine.

– grease not being completely removedfrom the laundry.

– limescale deposits on the heaterelements.

Too much detergent results in:

– poor wash, rinse, and spin results.

– a higher water consumption as anextra rinse cycle is automaticallyactivated.

– a greater burden on the environment.

Using liquid detergent with a pre-wash

Liquid detergent cannot be used for themain wash if the pre-wash has beenselected.

Use TwinDos dispensing if you areactivating the pre-wash.

Using detergent tablets or pods

Always put detergent tablets or podsdirectly in the drum with the laundry. They cannot be added via the detergentdispenser drawer.

See “Detergent” for further informationon detergents and dosage.

Maintenance

The washing machine has two maintenance programmes.

1. Clean machine for cleaning the washing machine.

2. Clean "TwinDos" for maintenance of the TwinDos compartments /. See“Cleaning and care – TwinDos maintenance” for more details.

Clean machine 85°C No load

With frequent washing at low temperatures there is a danger of a build-up ofbacteria in the washing machine.

Cleaning the washing machine will significantly reduce bacteria, mould, andbiofilm and prevent the build-up of unpleasant odours.

Notes – Optimum results can be achieved by using the Miele IntenseCleanmachine cleaner. Alternatively, a universal powder detergent canbe used.

– Dispense the washing machine cleaner or universal detergentdirectly in the drum.

– Do not load any laundry. The drum must be empty for thismachine maintenance wash.

Extras

50

You can use the Extras sensors toaugment the wash programmes.

QuickThe programme duration is reduced.Mechanical action and energy usageare increased.

EcoThe Eco Extra helps to save energy. Thewash temperature is reduced and thewash duration is increased in return. The wash programme continues toprovide excellent results.

Water plusThe water level in the main wash andthe rinses will be increased if the Waterplus Extra is selected.

You can select by how much the waterlevel is increased (see “Settings - Waterplus level”).

Extra rinseAn additional rinse cycle can be carriedout to give a better rinse result.

SingleWashFor efficiently washing a very small load(< 1 kg) in a normal wash programme. The wash duration is reduced.

Please note the following advice:

– Use liquid detergent

– Reduce the dosage to a maximum of50% of the amount quoted for a½ load

Pre-ironingIn order to reduce creasing, the laundryundergoes a smoothing process at theend of the programme. Reducing themaximum load by 50% will give a betterresult. Follow the instructions in thedisplay. Small loads give a better result.

The garments must be suitable fordrying in a tumble dryer andsuitable for ironing .

Pre-washFor laundry with large amounts of dirt,e.g. dust and sand.

Page 51: Operating instructions Washing machine · 2019-01-12 · It must only be used to wash garments which have been declared suitable for washing by the manufacturer indicated on the garment

Extras

51

SoakFor heavily soiled and stained itemswith protein stains.

A duration of between 30 minutes and6 hours can be chosen for the soakprocess in 30-minute increments. See“Settings” for more information.

The factory default setting is30 minutes.

IntensiveFor hard-wearing laundry that is veryheavily soiled. Cleaning efficiency isincreased through more intensemechanical action and the applicationof more heat energy.

AllergoWashThis option should be used where highstandards of hygiene are required. Moreenergy is used to lengthen temperatureholding times and more water is used toincrease rinsing efficiency. The itemsmust be suitable for drying in a tumbledryer and suitable for ironing .

Extra gentleDrum rotation and wash duration arereduced. Lightly soiled fabrics arewashed more gently.

Extra quietThis option reduces noise levels duringthe wash programme. Use this if youwant to wash during quiet periods (forinstance when children are sleeping). The final spin is automatically reducedto (Rinse hold). The programmeduration is increased.

Rinse holdThe laundry is not spun after the finalrinse and remains in the final rinsewater. This helps prevent creasing if thelaundry is not going to be removed fromthe drum immediately after the end ofthe programme.

Not all the Extras can be used withevery programme. If an Extra is notpermitted for a wash programme, itwill not be shown in the display. See“Wash programme chart - Extras”.

This washing machine has fullyelectronic controls with automatic loadcontrol. The washing machine takes inthe right amount of water required forthe programme depending on theamount of laundry and its absorbencyrate.

The programme sequences outlined inthe chart are based on the basicprogramme with a full load.

The washing machine programmesequence display shows which stage ofthe programme has been reached.

Special features in theprogramme sequenceAnti-crease:At the end of the programme the drumcontinues to turn at intervals for up to30 minutes to help prevent creasing.Exception: There is no anti-creasephase in the Woollens and Silks programmes. The door can be opened at any timeduring the anti-crease phase.1) If a temperature of 60°C or higher is

selected, two rinses are carried out. Ifa temperature of less than 60°C isselected, three rinses are carried out.

2) An additional rinse is carried out if:

– there is too much foam in the drum.

– a spin speed lower than 700 rpm hasbeen selected.

3) An additional rinse is carried out if:

PowerWash 2.0PowerWash 2.0, a washing techniquedeveloped by Miele, is activated in thefollowing programmes with small andmedium-sized loads:

– Cottons

– Minimum iron

– Shirts

– Automatic plus

How it works

Conventional washing techniques washwith more water than the laundry canabsorb. This total volume of waterneeds to be heated.

The PowerWash 2.0 washing techniqueonly uses slightly more water than thelaundry can absorb. The water whichhas not been absorbed by the laundryheats up the drum and the laundry andis sprayed into the laundry over andover again. This reduces the amount ofenergy used.

Activation

The washing machine calculates theload at the beginning of the washprogramme. PowerWash 2.0 isactivated if the following conditions arepresent:

– There is a small to medium-sizedlaundry load in the drum.

– The temperature selected does notexceed 60°C.

– The final spin speed selected mustnot be lower than 600 rpm.

– CapDosing (, ) ) has not beenselected for the main wash.

With some options (e.g. Pre-wash,Water plus) PowerWash 2.0 is notactivated.

Special features

– Drenching phaseThe washing machine will spin a fewtimes at the beginning of theprogramme. During spinning, thewater discharged is sprayed backinto the laundry in order to achieveoptimum moisture penetration.

The optimum water level is set at theend of the drenching phase. Ifnecessary, the washing machine willpump water away and take in a littlemore fresh water.

– Noises during the heating phaseUnusual bubbling noises can occurwhile the laundry and the drum arebeing heated.

An unsatisfactory wash result

Problem Possible cause and remedy

Liquid detergent doesnot give the requiredresult.

Liquid detergents usually contain no bleachingagents. They do not remove fruit, coffee and teastains. Use the Miele 2 Phase System. The targeted

addition of UltraPhase 2 during the wash processremoves stains effectively.

Use a general purpose powder detergentcontaining a bleaching agent.

White residues whichlook like powderdetergent are seen ondark textiles afterwashing.

The detergent contained compounds (zeolites) to aidwater softening which are not soluble in water. Thesehave ended up on the laundry. Try and brush off the residues with a soft brush

once the laundry is dry. Wash dark textiles using a detergent which does

not contain zeolites. Liquid detergents usually donot contain zeolites.

Use the Dark garments programme.

Grey, greasy particlescling to washed laundry.

Insufficient amounts of detergent were used to breakdown the particles of grease in heavily soiled laundry. Use more detergent or liquid detergent. Before washing the next load, run the Clean

machine programme using the Miele IntenseCleanwashing machine cleaner or a powder detergent.

The Miele water protectionsystemThe Miele water protection systemprotects all parts of the washingmachine and surrounds from waterdamage.

The system consists of three maincomponents:

– the inlet hose

– the electronic unit and drainage andoverflow protection

– the drain hose

a Two solenoid valves

b Double-skinned inlet hose

c Sump

d Float switch

e Electronic unit

f Drain pump

The inlet hoses

– The casing on the inlet hosescontains two solenoid valves ,which cut off the water intake directlyat the tap. These valves provide two-fold protection. In the event that oneof the valves is faulty, the other valvewill cut off the water intake.Blocking the water intake at the tapmeans that the inlet hoses are onlyunder pressure whilst water is beingtaken into the machine. For theremainder of the time, pressure onthe inlet hoses is negligible.

– Protection against the solenoidvalves bursting. The solenoid valves are pressuretested to between 7000 kPa and10000 kPa against bursting.

– The double-skinned inlet hoses have a pressure-resistant inner hoseand a protective sleeve. Any leakingwater is fed into the sump throughthis protective sleeve. A float switch closes the solenoid valves, preventing any more water flowinginto the machine and water in thesuds container is pumped away.

Installation and connection

91

The electronic unit and drainageand overflow protection

– Drainage protectionAny leaking water is collected in thesump in the base of the machine.A float switch closes the solenoidvalves , preventing any more waterfrom flowing into the machine andwater in the suds container ispumped away.

– Overflow protectionIf the water level exceeds a certainlevel, the drain pump switches inand pumps the excess water away ina controlled manner.Should the water level rise repeatedlyin an uncontrolled way, the drainpump will switch on continuously, the washing machine will indicatethat there is a fault and a tone willsound.

Drain hose

The drain hose is protected by aventilation system which prevents thewashing machine from being emptiedcompletely.

Connection to the water supply

Risk of electric shock! There are electrical wires in the waterinlet hose. The inlet hose must not beconnected in an area subject tospray water, e.g. in a bathroom orshower room.

The casing on the water inlet hosemust not get wet.

The protective sleeve must not bedamaged or kinked.
