Emotions run riot and the beat is driving when the Copenhagen Opera Festivals own production of Maria de Buenos Aires gets going. Be prepared for genres to collide when opera and tango merge in Astor Piazzollas seductive masterpiece.

Astor Piazzollas hot-blooded Argentine opera tells the story of prostitute Marias life on the streets of Buenos Aires, where the spirit, dream and fantasy worlds are wrapped inextricably together. In this experimental and surreal tango opera, classical ballet meets authentic Argentine tango, and classic and popular singing combines with rap and dialogue.

The show is produced by the Copenhagen Opera Festival and presents leading musicians and dancers. The role of Duende (the spirit) will be played by rapper and actor Al Agami, transforming the dialogue-heavy role into a musical one.

Look forward to a very different kind of opera as we mix up genres in the spirit of tango.

This ambitious production of the tragic love story between Dido, Queen of Carthage and the Trojan refugee Aeneas treats its audiences to yet another landmark production with Baroque ensemble Concerto Copenhagen.

In Dido & Aeneas, the audience will witness one of the greatest love stories ever told, conveyed by one of Europes leading Baroque ensembles and soloists. English Baroque composer Henry Purcell wrote the opera at the end of the 1600s with a libretto by Nahum Tate. Unrequited love will never go out of fashion and this tale still maintains its tragic resonance.

This production is staged by director Steven Player with musical direction by Andrew Lawrence-King.

The audience is invited on a journey of discovery into the dark mind where restless souls, insane delusions and hellish torments lurk. A devilish pact surrounds the characters on the island of Trekroner Fort (literally, The Three Crowns Sea Fortress) but can the audience penetrate the darkness to solve the mysteries of the island or are the souls forever lost?

Tonights innovative operatic experience is based on both familiar and lesser-known opera works, performed by a team of young, up-and-coming singers.

Malm Operas version no Way to Treat a Lady is a tribute to the American detective genre, mixing black humour with serious issues.

But one intrepid police officer, the ragged Morris Brummel, is on his trail. What the two men have in common are their overly dominant, self-absorbed mothers and an insatiable thirst for attention.

No Way to Treat a Lady laces its dark mystery with a refreshing wit, posing questions like: What happens to a man when he fails to receive love and affirmation? And is it mere coincidence which side of the law wrong or right we end up on?

Introduction by Laura Valesin at the entrance to the castle at 5pm free entry. The introduction will be in Danish.

Experience the repertoire of one of historys most famous opera singers at the historic Rosenborg Castle.

Farinelli was the stage name of Carlo Broschi a young 18th-century castrato singer who became one of historys greatest voices. He was born in Puglia, Italy to a family of minor nobility and was castrated as a boy in order that his bright and beautiful voice might be retained. From a young age Farinelli had already begun captivating Europes cultural capitals with his sensational voice and technique that was praised not only for its beauty but also for its perfect intensity and workmanship.

The Italian countertenor Angelo Manzotti has dedicated himself to the reinterpretation of Farinellis repertoire, and in doing so to the rediscovery of works by some of the greatest European composers of the 18th century.

It is no coincidence that the Copenhagen Opera Festival has chosen to present its Venetian opera programme at Rosenborg both music and palace date from the same period, and the elegant ceiling in the Great Hall is the work of Italian craftsmen; thus creating the ideal setting for a perfect musical experience.
