FROM YOUR PRESIDENT:

Dear Members,

Happy New Year! I hope it will be a healthy, safe and fun one for you.

Now that winter has fi nally arrived be especially careful while walking. Some of you have experienced a broken hip, leg or ankle. If you are with someone hold on to each other even though some people will say if one goes down, you both will. That’s not necessarily true.

When you have a chance to be out and about come to the Sr. Center and use the walking track since it is much safer inside and it is warm too.

Take advantage of our exercise room too.

When you’ve fi nished doing any of these things stay and enjoy yourself. Try a game of cards or pool or table tennis. That’s a great way to meet with friends and enjoy yourself instead of watching T.V.

By the way if you need a new calendar we have a good supply given to us by the City. They have a lot of information about when the City offi ces are closed and about garbage pick-up and delays, etc. Plus, they’re free.

God Bless and stay warm,

JanetBoard President

THE RED HAT DIVAS - .........Are winding up their 14th year of having fun and making new friends. Remember when it all started in 2004 when Casey and Cheryl were here and arranged for us to learn about this unique group activity?? Our rst meeting was January 21, 2004. We all scrambled

to nd a red hat! And to wear something purple! Many a trip to a wonderful variety of places, plus some fun meetings at

the Center or picnics at Tawawa Park have been held since then. What does 2018 hold??

Usually January/February are quiet months, but keep checking the Red Hat bulletin board by the Center’s reception desk, or call Queen Merrymaker

Mary Cartwright. Suggestions and ideas are always welcome. GO DIVAS!!!

There was considerable discussion about the Community Foundation’s Match Day 2017. To celebrate 65 years in business, the Community Foundation of Shelby County selected 13 charities with which to match donations received by November 28th. Since the Senior Center Foundation holds its investments at the Community Foundation, the Senior Center was able to be one of those charities! While the fi nal amount to be matched won’t be announced until December 15th, we believe we met our goal of $5,000! Since over 30% of Senior Center visits last year were exercise-related, funds will be dedicated to increasing the number of hours our exercise trainers are on site, as well as refurbishing the much used billiard tables.

David McKay, who resigned from the Foundation Board, was thanked for his service to the Foundation. A replacement is being sought for this open position. Finally, since our November meeting doubles as our annual meeting, the following offi cers were elected for 2018:• Chairman: Darlene Craver• Vice-Chair: Amy Berning• Secretary: Ginger Adams• Treasurer: Rhonda Keister

We look forward to a prosperous new year during which we strive to continue our mission of providing for the unmet needs of the Senior Center.

MILESTONE RAFFLE: …….Once again we say “Congratulations” to lucky winners of $100 in the Milestone Raffl e. They are Karen Yates of Sidney in October; and Tina Hottle of Sidney in November. COULD YOU BE NEXT?? Only if you have a ticket in the barrel for donating ten dollars to the Senior Center operating budget, is that possible!! There is still time to do it! This monthly drawing continues through June 2018. Why not take the opportunity to be a winner and support your Center at the same time??

ON FACEBOOK: Check us out on Facebook, Senior Center of Sidney/Shelby County. If you need information, have a question or just want to say hello our email address is: [email protected]. (Executive Director: Eileen Wiseman)

GOLDEN BUCKEYE: By now all 60+ year olds and disabled folks should have received your new Golden Buckeye Card. But if not, Liz at the senior center would love to help you. If you are 60+ we need proof of age (driver’s license will work just fi ne) and if you are disabled, we will also need proof of your disability.

GO DIVAS!!!
