Martin Friesl is an Associate Professor (UK Senior Lecturer) in Strategic Management at Lancaster University Management School and Director of the MSc in International Business. Martin’s research focuses on strategy implementation and the development, change and replication of strategic capabilities in a variety of contexts such as IT offshoring, Retailing and Financial Services. His work has received awards for its implications for practice and is published in leading peer-reviewed journals.

Tim Morey leads the strategy practice at frog, a global product strategy and design firm. Strategists work alongside designers and engineers to solve systemic problems, identify hidden opportunities, and bring new products to market. For new products and services to succeed, they must exceed user expectations, they must be technically and strategically feasible, and they must enter the market in the right way and at the right time. By supporting our clients through research and ideation, market strategy and forecasting, technology planning and costing, frog helps organizations expand their offerings and reach. At frog, Tim has worked with cleantech, telecommunication, consumer electronics, financial services, CPG, enterprise software and semiconductor clients to define, evaluate, price and market new products and services. Research interests include personal data / privacy and its impact on product design, entrepreneurial approaches to strategy development, and the use of sensors / sensing in product and services. Tim holds an MA and M.Litt in Philosophy from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, and an MBA from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.

Luciano Oviedo is a Competitive Strategist at Intel where he performs strategy design, architecture and product development. In this role, he collaborates with leaders to address strategic decisions on people, process, information, technology and structure. He specializes in visual computing markets and technologies such as computational imaging, video processing, computer vision and visual analytics. His engineering background spans from developing real-time embedded multimedia systems to designing business/market intelligence solutions and services. He holds B.Sc. in Electrical & Computer Engineering and an M.B.A. in Information Systems Analysis & Design from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Hanna Lehtimaki (Ph.D. School of Management, University of Tampere) is a Professor of Innovation Management at the University of Eastern Finland Business School. Her research interests include innovation culture, business and management renewal, relational approaches in strategic management and leadership, qualitative research and social constructionist research methodology. Her research has appeared in academic journals internationally, including South Asian Journal of Business and Management Cases, Business Communication Quarterly, Journal of Business Ethics, Higher Education, and Scandinavian Journal of Management. She is in charge of International Health Business Master’s program at the University of Eastern Finland, and a frequent lecturer in Executive MBA programs.

Ana Maiques Valls was born in Valencia. She obtained two Bachelors in Economy from Univ. of Barcelona and Univ. of Wolverhampton and a Master in European Economy from Univ. of North London. Living in different countries (England, Belgium, Holland and EEUU) allowed her to develop a strong international focus. She has also taken different business development courses from IESE, MIT and ESADE. In 2000 she was one of the founders of Starlab, a leading research and innovation company based in Barcelona (Spain) focused on the space and neuroscience industries. Her husband, PhD in Physics, accompanied her in this entrepreneurial adventure as another founder. The business tandem positioned Starlab as one of the leading companies in research in Spain. They were awarded a number of prizes: Flyer best space company, NOVARE ENDESA Prize, Innovative Company Award by the Barcelona Council, BMW Awards and the recognition of the European Space Agency.

Stephen Dunne is Director of Neuroscience Research at Starlab (which successfully spun-out Neuroelectrics, a world leading wireless, neuro-monitoring and neuro-modulation technology company). He is now focused on Business Development for a new line of neuroscience data services under the brand Neurokai focused on human experience, human performance and disease biomarkers. He began his studies at Galway Regional Technical College where he obtained a National Certificate in Instrument Physics. He then obtained a BSc (Honours) in Planetary and Space Physics at the University of Wales in Aberystwyth and a Masters in Optoelectronics and Information Processing from Queens University in Belfast. While at Queens, he carried out a research thesis on numerical models of spiral galaxies at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias. He worked in both Dublin and Barcelona before taking up a position at Starlab in late 2003. He is deeply interested in emerging technologies and their impact on society.

Richard Whittington is Professor of Strategic Management at Saïd Business School, and is Millman Fellow in Management at New College, Oxford. Richard is a leader in the field of Strategy-as-Practice research, having published the first paper in the field (1996). The Strategy-as-Practice movement has revitalised research on strategic planning, with formally-recognised streams in such leading conferences as the Strategic Management Society, the Academy of Management, the European Group for Organizational Studies and the British Academy of Management.

Richard’s own research is exploring the recent ‘opening’ of strategy, as it becomes more transparent internally and externally, and involves a widening range of people from inside and outside the organisation.
