OPEN CLASS GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS FOR OPEN CLASS EXHIBITS 1. Read and abide by the general rules and regulations of the Trempealeau County Fair. 2. GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS FOR OPEN CLASS EXHIBITS

1. Read and abide by the general rules and regulations of the Trempealeau County Fair.

2. Departments 1-28 are open to any Trempealeau County resident without regard to race, color, creed, sexual orientation, ethnic background or economic opportunity. Department 1 is also open to individuals outside of Trempealeau County.

3. All entries must be submitted on regular County Fair entry blanks to the Trempealeau County Fair Entries, PO Box 206 and postmarked no later than June 30, 2015 or exhibitor will be disqualified. Online entries deadline is June 30, 2015.

5. Open Class doors will open at 8 a.m., and everything must be in place by 9 a.m. on entry day or exhibit will be disqualified.

6. Open Class exhibitors residing within Trempealeau County must pay an entry fee of $10.00. Open dairy non-resident must pay $10.00 exhibitor fee. DEPARTURE Sunday, July 26, 2015, 4:00 p.m. ATTENTION: EXHIBITORS WHO PLAN ON TYING THEIR ANIMALS WITH THE JUNIOR FAIR CATTLE MUST NOTIFY THE JUNIOR FAIR SUPERINTENDENT OF THEIR INTENTION. Regulations: 1. All animals must comply with the Animal Health Rules &

Regulations as described in the front of this fair premium book.

2. Only registered animals are eligible for this show. All animals must have valid registration paper. Papers must be presented when the animal is checked in, prior to being stalled.

3. IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS MUST BE INCLUDED ON THE FAIR ENTRY FORM.

4. All animals entered in the Junior fair are ineligible for entry in the Open Class. However, all registered Junior fair cattle are eligible to show for ribbons and trophies as long as there are Open Show cattle entered and checked in by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.

5. Open class dairy is open to exhibitors outside of Trempealeau County. Non-Trempealeau County exhibitor fee will be $10.00, and the Trempealeau County resident exhibitor fee will be $10.00. Stall fees of $1.50/animal will apply to both Trempealeau County and non-Trempealeau County exhibitors.

6. Breed classes without open class entries will be canceled. 7. All first and second placed animals go in for the

champion class. 8. Registered animals must be registered in the exhibitors

name, the immediate family name or the farm name. 9. A $1.50 per animal stall fee is charged in addition to

the $10.00 entry fee for Trempealeau County resident exhibitors, or $10.00 entry fee for non-Trempealeau County resident. The fees are due with all entries and are nonrefundable.

10. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE POSTMARKED BY JUNE 5, 2015 AND MAILED TO TREMPEALEAU COUNTY FAIR, BOX 206, GALESVILLE, WI 54630. ABSOLUTELY NO LATE ENTRIES.

11. Animals may be substituted WITHIN a Class/Lot, but NOT between Class/Lots. Example: If you sign up for Class A, Lot 1 (2 yr. old Holstein cow), you may substitute with another 2 yr. old Holstein cow.

12. Registration papers and production records must be checked in between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25th.

13. Each county breed organization is responsible for obtaining the trophies given in their respective breeds.

DEPARTMENT 107 OPEN CLASS POULTRY

Superintendents: JoAnn Reinholdt & Jeff Sonsalla Judging: Saturday, July 25, 2015, following Junior Show

Regulations: 1. All open class entries must pay a $2.00 entry fee. There

will also be a 50¢ cage fee per bird (must accompany entry.)

2. All poultry in classes A thru O shall be varieties that are recognized by the Standard of Perfection (SoP) and judged by their compliance to that standard. Pigeons to be recognized breeds and have seamless leg bands. Birds that do not fit the SoP may be shown in appropriate lots of Class P.

3. All entries must meet health regulations listed in the health regulations in the front of the fair book. The Department Superintendent will inspect all birds before they can be caged at the fair. Any poultry showing signs of illness or infection will be sent home. Health papers are required. Pullorium testing will be available prior to the Fair.

4. Poultry exhibits must be in place by 2:00 pm on entry day, unless other arrangements are made.

5. All classes judged single placing 1-4. 6. If you purchase adult birds to improve your stock, you

must purchase and have them in your possession by May

1st of exhibit year. 7. You may enter a total of (6) six exhibits (birds, poultry &

pigeon categories). 8. Birds shown in Junior Fair are not eligible to show in

Open Class. 9. Watch for additional requirements/changes as they

become available in the 4-H newsletters and local newspapers.

Regulations: 1. All open class entries must pay a $10.00 entry fee. A 50¢

cage fee per animal must accompany entry. 2. All animals must be in place by 2:00 p.m. on entry day. 3. Exhibitors may show any breed of rabbit recognized by

the ARBA.

4. A limit of six entries per exhibitor. 5. Please list breed and sex of the rabbit on the entry blank. 6. The Department Superintendent will inspect animals as

they are entered. Any animals showing signs of illness or infection will be sent home.

7. Each exhibitor must clean, feed and water their animals daily, keeping barn clean. For the safety of your pet, you may want to consider using a padlock on your cage.

DEPARTMENT 109 - OPEN CLASS DOG OBEDIENCE Superintendents: Judy Betker

Assistants: Sandy Sygulla, Vicky Schultz & Becky Poulos Judging: Thursday, July 23, 2015 following Junior Show

Dog Rally: Thursday, July 23, 2015, 2:30 PM Regulations: 1. OPEN CLASS IS EXHIBITION ONLY - NO

PREMIUMS. 2. All entrants (all ages) in the Open Class Dog Show must

have completed a Dog Obedience Course following A.K.C. guidelines.

3. All dogs must have current distemper, rabies, and parvovirus shots. A certificate of immunization must be presented before judging.

4. Dogs must be kept on leash at all times. 5. Dogs showing evidence of fleas or an unhealthy

appearance will be disqualified. 6. Long Sits & Downs may be combined at Judge’s &

Superintendent’s discretion. 7. A dog in season will be judged last or outside the ring.

Contact the Superintendents & Judge before entering the Arena Building.

8. Exhibitors are responsible for controlling and cleaning up after their own dog.

9. Prong collars allowed in Pre-Novice Classes only. 10. Participants showing in the Open Class Dog

Obedience are encouraged to attend the 2 “Fair Brush-Up Clinics” held in July at the Trempealeau County Fairgrounds. (Call UW Extension for dates and times, 715-538-2311, ext. 208).

CLASS A ~ Rally Rally is a sport in which the dog and handler complete a course that has been designed by the rally judge. the judge tells the handler to begin, and the dog and handler proceed at their own pace through a course of designated stations (10-20, depending on the level). Each of these stations has a sign providing instructions regarding the next skill that is to be preformed. Scoring is not as rigorous as traditional

obedience. All Rally Novice exercises are judged on leash and all Rally Advanced exercises are judged off leash. All dogs must enter and leave the ring on leash. The leash must be made of fabric or leather and needs to be long enough to provide adequate slack. Lot

Team Obedience Guidelines: There will be two classes of Team Obedience Pre-Novice and Novice. There will be four dogs/four handlers per team. There shall be two judges - one will give commands and help score; one will only score. The Team Captain will enter the ring first and give the judge a list of the team members. One team will be judged at a time. In the figure 8, there will be five stewards standing eight feet apart in a straight line. On the stand, one judge goes over the dog, and the other judge scores. Dogs remain standing until all dogs have been examined. On the recall, one dog is called at a time. Each dog remains in the “front position” until all four dogs have been called. On the Judge’s order to “finish your dogs” handlers will simultaneously finish their dogs. The Team Captain will advise the judge as to which dog will be called first. Individual scores will be added together to get the team score.
