Kimmel Center Cultural Campus
Dear friends,
Welcome to the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus’ Merriam Theater. You are about to experience the critically-acclaimed 25th anniversary of the Irish dance phenomenon that swept the globe—Riverdance, part of our Family Discovery Series which inspires and educates our littlest arts lovers with age-appropriate programming.
We have a vision to transform lives daily through the arts, and this spring, our programming highlights culturally-diverse artists and rich traditions that bring the world to Philadelphia, including: Grey Rock, an exciting new theatrical work from Palestine (February 6–9); Ballet Folcòrico Nacional de México de SILVIA LOZANO, focusing on the preservation of Mexican culture (March 12); Egyptologist Kara Cooney with National Geographic Live’s When Women Ruled the World (March 18); and Indian musicians Zakir Hussain, Kala Ramnath, and Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh (April 14).
We also join one of our esteemed Resident Companies, PHILADANCO, and Founder & Artistic Director Joan Myers Brown, to celebrate their 50th Anniversary season. Brown is a Philadelphia institution, and PHILADANCO has represented our city around the world, broadening our perspective of dance and its evolution. Her mark on the dance community is immeasurable. Mark your calendars for April’s PHILADANCO engagement, Fast Forward (April 17–19), as the company looks ahead to their future.
Education is imperative to our effort cultivating the next generation of arts lovers and artists. We are a non-profit and the region’s most impactful performing arts center, and able to provide a vast range of FREE programs both on and off our Cultural Campus through generous support of our community partners, continuing our Education Strategic Plan for Growth. With a goal to educate, engage, and inspire 100,000 students per year, this program covers a variety of genres, from jazz, musical theater, and technology, to exciting extras like student matinees and networking.
Stay in the know about new artists, presales, family-friendly events, and FREE programming by subscribing to our weekly e-newsletter, plus follow us on social media.

RIVERDANCE CAST & BANDTHE RIVERDANCE IRISH DANCE TROUPE The Riverdance Irish Dance Troupe are world-class Irish dancers. They hail mostly from Ireland, but also from Britain, the United States, Canada and Australia. Between them the dancers can boast of hundreds of championships won in Ireland and abroad. Most started dancing at three or four years of age at local dance schools and progressed to world championship level before being chosen to perform in Riverdance. The dancers would have known and competed against each other at various competitions, including the World Championships. Riverdance has given them the opportunity to perform together for the first time in a non-competitive way. The grace and eloquence of their soft-shoe dance and the power and precision of their hard-shoe routines clearly display the endless hours of practice and their dedication to the art of Irish Dance.
THE RIVERDANCE PRINCIPAL DANCERS

She won four North American Championships, two All-Ireland Championships and in 2007 won the World Irish Dancing Championships. Aside from her dancing, Anna Mai has also received a qualification in personal training from the University of Limerick.
