About ViewPoint

What is ViewPoint?

ViewPoint is a web-based application that allows you to track, monitor and communicate with remote assets and field personnel equipped with an appropriate tracking device from EMS Global Tracking. The location and status of every asset can be tracked from any computer connected to the Internet using a web browser.

Feature Summary

ViewPoint allows you to:

Add terminals and organize them into fleets

Specify a unit name for each tracked asset

Graphically view the location of each unit on a map

Choose the units to display on the map, such as a single unit, all units in a fleet, all units that are in an alert or warning state, the nearest units to a specified location, or all units in a drawn area

View incoming position and status reports

Send messages to units, and receive messages from units

Monitor incoming and outgoing messages

Monitor alert conditions

Configure SMS alert or email notification rules in the event of any alert or exception condition, such as an operator pressing an alert button or straying into a hazardous area

Add points of interest to a map

Set up ViewPoint users, including their access levels

Define personnel and groups, which allows an operator of an Osprey to send a message to another operator or a group of operators

Customize the messages operators can select at Osprey terminals (using codebooks)

Update codebooks over-air

Import and export codebooks

Choose the style of map to display

Produce scheduled and on-demand reports for auditing purposes

Airtime Contract

Your airtime is purchased on a per-terminal basis, and depending on the product, may either be on a pre-paid fixed term airtime contract, or on a monthly billed tariff.

Airtime charges are based on the number of messages (including routine position reports) sent and received.

Security alerts and user communications can increase the number of messages and can therefore incur additional costs, depending on the tariff used; refer to your tariff plan for details of charges.

Logging In

You can use ViewPoint only after logging in using your user name and password at the Login page. The Login page is displayed when you enter the appropriate web address in your browser. The web address is supplied by EMS Global Tracking.

Logging in serves the following purposes:

It ensures that only authorized people are able to access ViewPoint. Each user has a specified access level, which defines the range of activities the user can perform after logging in. For details of access levels or methods of creating user accounts, please refer to the help for the Users page.

It enables ViewPoint to record any changes made against the name of the user who is logged in. This allows audit reports to be produced.

When logging in, a Language menu may be available, depending on the brand of ViewPoint you are using. You can use the menu to choose the language to use in ViewPoint. If you change the language, the URL also changes, which means that you can bookmark ViewPoint to use the required language.

Note: ViewPoint logs you out automatically after a predefined period of time.

Note: Log out or completely close the browser when you have finished using ViewPoint or wish to leave it unattended.

Selecting the Language

You can choose which language ViewPoint is displayed in by selecting from the drop-down menu near the bottom of the window.

Using the ViewPoint Map

Processing Alerts

Viewpoint generates an alert when it receives an Alert message from a unit, or a unit strays inside a geofence that has an Alert rule. When an alert occurs:

An alert notification sound is generated. This can be customized in the User Preferences page.

The unit icon appears as follows:

A Notifications dialog appears in ViewPoint; for example:

LOCATE - This focuses the ViewPoint map on the current location of the unit and

removes the Notifications dialog.

DELETE - This removes the Notifications dialog. Note that removing the Notifications dialog does not take the unit out of alert mode, and while the unit stays in alert mode, you will continue to receive alert messages.

CLOSE (icon in the top-right corner) - Minimizes the Notifications dialog to the

bottom-left corner of the map. Clicking the following restores the dialog:

To reset the unit out of alert mode, select Reset Alert in the Configure tab of the Unit

Options page.

Selecting Units

Introduction

The area immediately above the map that includes the Alerts, Warnings and All tabs, and options such as Fleet and Unit allows you to select units. Only selected units:

Appear on the ViewPoint map.

Appear in the Mailbox, Summary and Details tabs.

Are available for selection in the Locator tool.

Are listed in the Units panel. Note: The Units panel determines which of the

selected units appear on the map.

By default, all units that have sent a tracking message within 90 days are selected and are displayed on the map.

The number of units that are currently selected is shown in the counter near the top-right corner of the map (just above SHOW HISTORY/SHOW LIVE). For example, '6/24' shows that you have access to 24 units, of which 6 are selected because they match your current selection criteria.

Clearing selection criteria

To clear all selection criteria, click the following icon to the right of the selected units counter:

Map pages

If you have selected more units than are supported for the browser you are using, your units appear on different pages of the map. The number of units displayed is shown above the map; for example:

Here, the first 500 units are displayed. The total number of units currently selected is 529, out of a total of 1217. You can use the icons to go forward and back through the pages.

You can specify the default sort order using Unit Sort Options in the User Preferences

page.

About the Alerts, Warnings and All Tabs

These tabs allow you to select units by status. To select only units in alert mode, click ALERTS. To select only units that have a warning status, click WARNINGS and to select units irrespective of status, click ALL. Changing between tabs clears all other selection

criteria.

All selection criteria made (such as in the Unit menu) apply only to the units that have the selected status. For example, while in the Alerts tab, selecting a fleet from the Fleet menu

displays only those units in the selected fleet that are in alert mode.

Fleet, Unit, Alert, Warning and Filter Menus

These menus allow you to filter the selected units by fleet, unit name, status and, if only one fleet is selected and has filters assigned, by filter value.

To clear an individual filter, click the following icon displayed to the right of the menu:

AREA

You can use the AREA button to select units that are in a drawn rectangular area on the map:

1. Click AREA.

2. Click and drag the mouse pointer to define the area. The area turns yellow.

3. Click OK to confirm the area. The area turns purple and ViewPoint selects only

the units inside the area.

To stop selecting using this method, click CANCEL.

NEAR

You can use the NEAR button to select units that are in a rectangular area on the map. With NEAR, you specify the centre point of the rectangular area:

1. Click NEAR.

2. Click the required target location on the map.

3. Use the Radius control to specify the dimensions of the area, or type the distance

(in kilometers). For example, if you enter 30km, the area will be 60km by 60km.

4. Click OK to confirm the area. The area turns purple and ViewPoint selects only

the units inside the area.

To stop selecting units using this method, click CANCEL.

Note: The Summary tab sorts the entries by distance from the target location and shows

the distance between the unit and the target location.

SEARCH

To search for a particular unit, select the search criteria from this menu, enter search text in the field and click the following icon:

All units that match the search text are displayed (case is not important).

The menu contains Callsign, Name, Registration and Unit Type options, which are defined in the Modify tab of the Unit Options page. If a single fleet is selected, the menu also contains Group to select units that are being used by personnel in a specified group,

as set up in the Group Setup page.

Clicking the following icon clears the search field and lists all units:

Manually Panning and Zooming

Manually Panning

To pan around the map, click in the map, hold the mouse button and drag the map to the required position.

Alternatively, you can use the arrow keys to pan up, down, left or right.

You can also pan diagonally with the Page Up, Page Down, Home and End keys.

Manually Zooming

There are several ways to zoom manually. You can:

Drag the zoom bar slider up or down. This zooms in or out, keeping the same place in the center of the map view.

Click the up and down arrows above and below the zoom slider. This zooms in or out one level at a time, keeping the same place in the center of the map view. You can also zoom in or out in this way by using the '+' and '-' keys.

Roll the mouse wheel, if you have one. Rolling the wheel forwards or backwards zooms in or out about the current cursor location.

Double-click a location on the map. This zooms in, by one level, to that location.

Hold the Shift key, then click and drag the cursor over the map to draw a rectangle around the location to zoom in.

Note: An Auto-zoom option is available in the Map Options Bar. If Auto-zoom is selected, ViewPoint automatically adjusts the map position and magnification factor when you select units using the unit selection options.

Displaying Unit Popups

Introduction

Clicking a unit name in the Units panel or clicking the unit icon on the ViewPoint map displays the unit popup. The popup displays information about the most recent tracking message sent from the terminal and the current status of the unit. For example:

You can also display a unit popup by selecting Show tracking in the Units panel, then clicking a tracking point on the ViewPoint map. In this case, the popup displays the tracking message and status of the unit when it was at that location.

The popup also displays the time that the tracking message was sent. If this time is not available, the time that the tracking message was received by ViewPoint is displayed.

Note: This feature is applicable only for certain types of terminal.

The popup contains the following options:

Arrow icons (near the top-right corner) and replaying journeys

Displays the details of the previous or next tracking message.

To replay journeys taken by the unit, click the icons to cycle through the tracking messages.

OPTIONS

Displays the Unit Options page.

NEAR

Selects all units within an area that measures 100km by 100km from the unit. See "Selecting Units" for further information about selecting units. To stop selecting units by area, click CANCEL in the unit selection area just above the map.

Using the Live and History Views

Introduction

About the Live View

By default, ViewPoint displays the Live View, which shows the last-reported position of each selected unit, and one page of messages in the Mailbox. The date and time range of the messages being displayed is shown immediately above the map.

If the Show tracking checkbox in the Units panel is selected, the tracked route of the unit

on the ViewPoint map is shown as a red line.

Note: ViewPoint stores messages for 90 days. If you are using Live View, only one page of messages is shown, the size of which is dependent on the browser being used. You can view and page through all messages using History View.

About the History View

You can use History View to view position, tracking and status messages within a specified period for each selected unit and to replay journeys taken by the unit.

To display History View:

1. Click SHOW HISTORY (located to the right of the ViewPoint window).

2. Enter the date and time range of the messages you want to view.

3. Click OK. The SHOW HISTORY button toggles to SHOW LIVE.

The date and time range of the messages being displayed is shown immediately above the map. To change the date and time range of the History View, click the EDIT button to

the right of the date range.

If there are too many messages to display on one page (the page size is browser dependent), you can use the following controls to scroll through the messages:

To revert back to Live View, click SHOW LIVE.

Appearance of History View

When in History View:

The date range, unit popups and Mailbox have a blue background.

If Show tracking is selected in the Units panel, the tracked route of each unit

is shown on the map as a black line (rather than the normal red lines).

The unit icons on the map contain dots; for example:

The Summary and Details tabs and the AREA and NEAR buttons are not

available, as they are used for live information only.

The unit popups display HISTORICAL to indicate that the displayed locations

of the units may not be their current positions.

Replaying Journeys

To replay journeys taken by the unit:

1. Click the unit on the ViewPoint map to display its popup.

2. Click the arrow icons near the top right of the popup to cycle through the

tracking messages.

Using the Map Options Bar

The following menus and options displayed near the top-left corner of the map allow you to change the appearance and content of the map, and measure the distance between points:

The meaning of each menu and option is as follows:

Base map

This allows you to change the source of the ViewPoint map, which affects its appearance.

Note: Please refer to the Help, About ViewPoint option for copyright and usage details.

Note: You can hide or display the base map and additional information using the Map

Layers panel.

Map style

You can use this option to change the style of the map. You can choose a Road, Satellite or Hybrid view. A Hybrid view is a mixture of the other two.

Auto-zoom

Selecting this option automatically adjusts the position and magnification factor of the map when you select units using the unit selection options. ViewPoint chooses a position and magnification factor to frame the selected units.

Show labels

Selecting Show labels displays the names of units and points of interest on the map.

Note that if Show labels is not selected, you can display the name of a unit or point of

interest by hovering the mouse pointer over the item on the map.

MEASURE

You can use this option to find out the distance between multiple points on the map.

To use this option:

1. Click MEASURE.

2. Click at the start and each subsequent point in the path. A line is drawn between

each point.

The box near the top-right corner of the map shows the coordinates and the fixed distance to the last point in the path, plus the dynamic distance from the last point to the current cursor position along with the total length of the path. You can change the units used for distance measurements using Distance Units in the User Preferences

page.

3. Double-click at the end point.

Clicking the following icon displayed to the right of the MEASURE button removes the

measurement lines and box:

Using the Locator

The Locator, displayed near the top-right corner of the ViewPoint map displays the current location of the mouse pointer on the map. The Locator also contains a menu and field that allow you to center the map over locations or objects. Select an item from the menu and type the relevant text into the field.

You can select the following items from the menu:

Place

Select this option, enter a place name and click the Find button to center the map over a

location such as the name of a town or city.

Unit

Select this option and enter the name of a unit to center the map over a unit. Only units that match the unit selection criteria are available.

Note: Once you have started entering the name, units that share the same characters are

listed. This allows you to select a unit from a list.

Geofence

Select this option and enter the name of a geofence in the currently selected fleet to center the map over a geofence.

Note: Once you have started entering the name, geofences that share the same

characters are listed. This allows you to select a geofence from a list.

POI (Points Of Interest)

Select this option and enter the name of a point of interest in the currently selected fleet to center the map over a point of interest.

Note: Once you have started entering the name, points of interest that share the same

characters are listed. This allows you to select a point of interest from a list.

Position

Select this option to center the map over a location defined by coordinates. For example:

Units/Geofences/Points of Interest/Map Layers

Using the Units Panel

Introduction

Purpose of this panel

You can use the Units panel on the right-hand side of the screen to:

Choose the units to display on the map.

Display the location of a unit.

Show tracking history, to see the routes that units have taken.

Note: Only selected units that have sent at least one tracking message appear in the

Units panel.

The Units panel does not affect the content of the Mailbox, Summary and Details tabs.

Units that have not yet transmitted cannot be displayed on the map, although you can view their details in the Details tab.

Panel Options and Features

Choosing the units to display

To choose the units to display on the map, simply select the appropriate checkboxes in the Units panel:

Clicking the Show units checkbox selects/deselects all selected units.

Clicking the first checkbox next to a fleet name (out of the pair of checkboxes) selects/deselects all selected units in the fleet.

Clicking the right-arrow icon to the left of a fleet name displays all selected units in that fleet; you can then select/deselect individual units.

Clicking the down-arrow icon reverts back to the list of fleet checkboxes.

Centering the map on a unit

Clicking a unit listed in the Units panel centers the map on its location and displays the unit popup.

You can also locate a unit using the Locator tool.

Showing tracking history

You can display tracking history for all selected units, for all selected units in a fleet, or individually. Displaying tracking history is very useful to track units as they move in real time.

Where you see a pair of checkboxes next to a fleet or unit name, selecting the second checkbox displays tracking history for the fleet or unit, as appropriate.

You can use the Geofences panel on the right-hand side of the screen to:

Choose the geofences to display on the map.

Add new geofences.

Edit, delete and change the location of existing geofences.

About geofences

A geofence is an area you can draw on the map and assign a rule to. Depending on the rule, ViewPoint can generate an alert or warning if a unit is inside or outside the area. The shape of a geofence can be a circle, route (path) or polygon.

Active geofences (that is, those that have the Active checkbox selected) appear on the map as shaded areas. The color of the shading reflects the geofence rule. Inactive geofences have a dotted outline and no shading, and cannot generate alerts or warnings.

It is allowable to have overlapping geofences, or a geofence completely enclosed within another. A Layer setting determines which geofence takes priority in the event that a unit

is in more than one geofence at the same time.

Note: For a unit to abide by the rules of a geofence, the geofence must be active and the unit must have the Enable checkbox selected in the Fences tab of the Unit Options page. For geofences that have an Alert or Warn fence rule, curfew periods may be used to control the times the geofence is active.

Panel Options and Features

Choosing the geofences to display

To choose the geofences to display on the map, simply select the appropriate checkboxes in the Geofences panel:

Clicking the Show geofences checkbox selects/deselects all geofences.

Clicking the checkbox next to a fleet name selects/deselects all geofences in the fleet.

Clicking the right-arrow icon to the left of a fleet name displays all geofences in that fleet; you can then select/deselect individual geofences.

Clicking the down-arrow icon reverts back to the list of fleet checkboxes.

Note: The panel lists only those geofences that are in a fleet belonging to a selected

unit.

Centering the map on a geofence

Clicking a geofence listed in the Geofences panel centers the map on its location.

You can also locate a geofence using the Locator tool.

Creating a geofence

To create a geofence using the Geofences panel:

1. Click the CREATE GEOFENCE button.

2. Use the Fleet menu to choose the fleet that the geofence is to belong to.

3. In the Name field, enter a name for the geofence.

4. Click the appropriate Draw icon and draw the shape as follows:

Circle - Click the location on the map to place the center of the circle. An "X"

appears at that location.

Draw Route - Click the start point of the route on the map, then at each corner.

Double-click to finish.

Polygon - Click the start point of the polygon on the map, then at each corner.

Double-click to finish.

5. Enter the attributes of the geofence (see "Editing the details of a geofence"

below).

6. Click CREATE. The color of the geofence indicates the fence rule:

None - Gray

Safe - Green

Route - Blue

Waypoint - Turquoise

Warn - Yellow

Alert - Red

Editing the details of a geofence

To edit a geofence:

1. Double-click the name of the geofence in the Geofences panel.

2. Edit the details and click UPDATE.

The fields have the following meaning:

Name

In the Name field, enter a name for the geofence.

Edit

See "Changing the location of a geofence" below.

Radius (m)

The radius of the circle, or the path width, as appropriate.

Layer

If two or more geofences overlap, the fence rule belonging to the geofence with the highest Layer setting takes priority. This allows a geofence to be contained within another and to have priority when a unit passes from the larger to the smaller geofence.

Fence Rule

The fence rule can be any one of the following:

None - No geofence rule.

Safe - Creates an UNSAFE warning if a unit is not inside this or any other active

Safe geofence.

Route - Creates an OFFROUTE warning if a unit is not inside this or any other

active Route geofence.

Waypoint - Allows you to define the geofence as a waypoint. The Waypoint column of the Mailbox tab shows whether units have recently entered or exited a waypoint geofence, or remained inside for at least two message periods.

A unit can have a Checkpoint Deadline set in the Fences tab of the Unit Options page. A LATE warning is generated if the unit does not enter the geofence by the specified deadline. To cancel the LATE warning, click the Clear icon next to the Checkpoint Deadline.

Warn - Creates a HAZARD warning when a unit enters the geofence. This warning is generated for each position message that places the unit inside the geofence and ends when the unit exits the geofence.

Alert - Creates a DANGER alert when a unit enters the geofence. This alert is generated for each position message that places the unit inside the geofence and ends when the unit exits the geofence.

Active

Specifies whether or not the rule applies to incoming messages from now onwards.

Curfew

This is displayed if the Fence Rule is Alert or Warn. Clicking CREATE CURFEW displays the following dialog, which allows you to select active periods for the geofence:

To create a curfew period, click and drag the left (or primary) mouse button. Each cell in the graphic represents 30 minutes.

You can add an additional period by pressing and holding the Ctrl key (PC) or Command key (Mac) before clicking and dragging.

Please refer to the on-screen instructions for further information.

Deleting a geofence

To delete a geofence:

1. Double-click the name of the geofence in the Geofences panel.

2. Click DELETE and confirm when prompted.

Introduction

Purpose of this panel

You can use the Points of Interest panel on the right-hand side of the screen to:

Choose the points of interest to display on the map.

Add new points of interest.

Locate a point of interest.

Edit, delete and change the location of existing points of interest.

About points of interest

Points of interest are locations on the map that have a special significance. A point of interest could, for example, be the location of a building, a road junction, a meeting point or some other location that needs to be marked on the map.

Points of interest appear as follows on the map:

Methods of adding and modifying points of interest

Points of interest can be created:

By operators of terminals such as the Osprey. These points of interest are used to alert ViewPoint operators to features at specific locations. For example, an Osprey operator who is a surveyor may want to report the location of a damaged road, bridge or other building structure.

By ViewPoint operators using the Points of Interest panel. These are normally used to specify the locations of key locations that are relevant to the organization, such as the locations of meeting points, delivery locations or storage depots.

By importing a CSV file using the POI Setup page. This method provides a quick method of adding points of interest, rather than adding each individually using the Points of Interest panel.

You can modify existing points of interest using the Points of Interest panel or using the POI Setup page. You can delete points of interest only by using the Points of Interest panel.

the pointer over the icon displays the name of the point of interest:

Note: You cannot change the position of a point of interest created using an Osprey. Points of interest created from an Osprey are designed to alert ViewPoint operators to specific locations.

To change the location of a point of interest:

1. Double-click the name of the point of interest in the Points of Interest panel.

2. Click the following icon:

Using the Map Layers Panel

The Map Layers panel allows you to select different layers to be displayed in the ViewPoint map. A layer provides additional graphical information that you can add or remove from the ViewPoint map. The layers are defined by EMS Global Tracking, depending on customer requirements.

Selecting or deselecting Show layers displays/hides all layers.

Selecting or deselecting [Base Map] switches the base map selected in the Map Options

bar on or off.

Note: The images on some layers may appear only at a predefined zoom level and in

certain areas of the map.

Reporting Tabs

Using the Mailbox Tab

Introduction

The Mailbox tab provides information about the currently selected units and the messages sent to and from those units. It is located immediately below the ViewPoint map, along with the following tabs:

Summary tab

Details tab

Reports tab

The Mailbox tab shows position, tracking, status, configuration and text messages sent to and from the selected units.

Most information in the tab is self-explanatory. See "Common Report Headings" for details of columns that may not be self-explanatory.

Note: ViewPoint stores messages for 90 days. You can view all of these messages by paging through while using History View. If you are using Live View, only the first page of messages is shown.

For messages sent from the unit, there is an icon in the column to the right of the OPTIONS button, which represents the status of the unit at the time of sending the message. For example:

There is a key explaining the meaning of the icon near the top-right corner of the Mailbox tab.

About message progress

When you send a message to a unit, such as a text message, it is logged in the Mailbox tab. This allows you to follow the progress of the message as it is prepared, sent and acknowledged by viewing the status in the Progress column. The stages of

progression are:

Pending - Displayed if ViewPoint has to perform checks before queuing the

message to be sent, such as checking that the unit is on.

Queued - Indicates that the message has been queued for transmission by

ViewPoint.

Submitted - Indicates that ViewPoint has submitted the message to the

communications network.

Sent - The message has been transmitted to the unit. After certain message types have been sent to the unit, ViewPoint waits for the unit to send an acknowledgement message to indicate that the unit has received the message.

Not responding - This is displayed if ViewPoint has not received an acknowledgement from the unit that the message was received. ViewPoint continues to re-send another message.

Acknowledged - ViewPoint has received the acknowledgement message, which

confirms that the unit has received the message.

Expired - This is displayed if ViewPoint has not received the acknowledgement

message. ViewPoint will eventually attempt to send the message again.

Tab Options and Features

Message Types

By default, the Mailbox shows all types of messages, but you can use the Message Types menus near the top-left corner of the Mailbox to filter the types of messages

displayed.

CSV

You can save historical information in the Mailbox tab to a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file by following these steps:

1. Select a single unit from the Unit menu in the unit selection area.

2. Display the History View with the date range of information to be saved.

3. Click the CSV button to the right of the Message Types menus in the Mailbox tab.

LOCATE

This option is available for incoming messages only. Clicking the button focuses the ViewPoint map on the position of the unit at the time the message was sent.

Minimize and Restore

To minimize the Mailbox, Summary, Details and Reports tabs, click the following icon located to the right of the tabs:

column shows the codebook used by the unit, as set up in the Codebook Setup page.

You can reorder the messages by clicking an appropriate column heading.

The Details tab is not available when using History View.

The Reports tab allows you to set up, generate and view reports for the currently selected fleet(s). The tab is located immediately below the ViewPoint map, along with the following tabs:

About scheduled and on-demand reports

The Reports tab allows you to create and view two types of report:

Scheduled (premium feature) - These are reports you can set up to run automatically at specified intervals, such as every day, week or month. When a scheduled report is generated, an email is sent to nominated recipients. The email contains a link that allows recipients to view the report within ViewPoint for up to 30 days.

On-Demand - These run only once, are generated immediately and are displayed

in green in the Reports tab. ViewPoint can store the last 10 on-demand reports.

Note: The reports available depend on the terminals you are using and the premium features purchased.

Creating Scheduled reports

To create a new scheduled report, click the SCHEDULED button above the reports table

and follow the pages.

Stage 1 - Setup

Report Class

Select the type of report to generate from the menu. A description of the selected report class is shown below the menu.

This report lists fuel purchases across the fleet during the period of the report.

Fleet Fuel Log Summary Report

This report summarizes fuel purchases across the fleet during the period of the report.

Fleet Operations Audit Report

This report lists the configuration changes made by ViewPoint users, such as renaming a fleet.

Geofence Report

This report shows the geofences the specified units have entered, and the time spent in those geofences, during the period of the report.

Idle Report

This report shows idling events raised by the specified units. A unit is idling when the ignition is on, but the unit does not move for a period longer than the threshold set in the Configure tab in the Unit Options page.

Mileage Report

This report shows the distance traveled by the unit.

Speed Report

This report shows speeding events raised by the unit during the period of the report. The unit raises a speeding event when its speed exceeds the threshold set in the Configure tab in the Unit Options page.

Summary Report

This report lists useful summary information about the specified unit, such as mileage, speeding and idling events, during the period of the report.

Name

Enter a name for the report.

Date Format

Use the menus to select the format for the dates and times in the report.

Also select the time zone of the report. This affects the times displayed in the report. For example, if a message occurred at 12:00 UTC+0 and you change the time zone to UTC+1, the time of the message is displayed at 13:00. This option affects only the specific report that you are defining and not ViewPoint.

Note: The Fleet time zone for the report is specified in the Time Zone tab of the

Fleet Setup page.

Frequency

Specify how often you want the report to be generated.

Note: If you select Daily, you can choose the days on which the report is

generated in the next stage.

Stage 2 - Daily/Weekly/Monthly Report

For daily or weekly reports, specify the period of time that the report is to cover.

If you selected Daily in the previous stage, you can choose the days on which the

report is generated.

If you selected Monthly in the previous stage, the report covers a period of one

month up to the time you select.

Stage 3 - Unit Filters & Report Parameters

Unit Filter

If the currently selected fleet has filters assigned, unit-based reports (such as the speed report) allow you to choose which units are included in the report by specifying their filter values.

Idle Threshold (Available only for Idle reports and certain terminals)

Enter the minimum number of minutes an idling event must continue for it to be included in the report.

Note: A unit is idling when the ignition is on, but the unit does not move for a period longer than the threshold set in the Configure tab in the Unit Options page.

Speed Band 1-10 (Available only for Speed reports and certain terminals)

This option allows you to group speeding events by speed in the report. In each field, enter the maximum speed of a speeding event for it to be included that speed band. Speed Band 1 should be set at the slowest speed.

Note: This report shows speeding events raised by the unit during the period of the report. The unit raises a speeding event when its speed exceeds the threshold set in the Configure tab in the Unit Options page.

Output Format

Select HTML to download the report and view it in a new browser window. Select PDF to save the report as a PDF (Portable Document Format) file. The CSV option is selected by default, which saves the report as a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file and can be viewed in applications such as spreadsheets.

Miscellaneous Options

Select Include setup information to include the setup details in the report, such

as the date range.

Stage 4 - Recipients

Enter the email addresses of the report recipients.

As soon as you type, ViewPoint displays a list of matching email addresses from:

The User Setup page.

The Report Recipients tab of the Fleet Setup page.

For example, if you type "tra", ViewPoint displays all email addresses that contain "tra" at any location.

If you choose to enter a new email address, it is automatically added to Report Recipients tab of the Fleet Setup page.

Confirm the report setup details and the next five periods of the report. Click SAVE to

schedule the report.

Note: You may need to wait a short while for a new report to appear in the Reports tab.

Running On-Demand reports

To run an on-demand report, click the ON DEMAND button above the reports table and

enter the following information:

A report window appears when you choose to generate the report. If you keep the window open, the report results are displayed in the window once available. You can also view the report results at any time by clicking the appropriate OPTIONS button in the report table.

Viewing reports

You can view a report that has been previously generated by clicking the CSV or HTML button in the Save Formats column. For a scheduled report, these buttons display the latest report; you can view earlier reports by clicking OPTIONS.

Tab Options and Features

Report Types

You can filter the reports displayed in the reports table by selecting from the filter options provided in the menus near the top-left corner of the tab.

ON DEMAND

Select this option to generate an on-demand report. See the above introduction for further information.

SCHEDULED

Select this option to generate a scheduled report. See the above introduction for further information.

OPTIONS

Clicking the OPTIONS button next to the name of a report takes you to a page that

shows:

A MODIFY button (scheduled reports only) - To modify the report settings.

A DELETE button (scheduled reports only) - To delete the report. Deleting a scheduled report removes the Next Scheduled date (after a screen refresh), which prevents the report from being generated again. Any reports that have already been generated remain in the tab.

The setup details of the report, such as the report name, description, date format and recipients.

The dates and times of the next five occasions that the report will be generated (scheduled reports only).

A report log, which shows details of when the report was generated and the period covered. Depending on whether the report was generated in HTML or CSV format, you can use the buttons to the right of the table to save the report as a CSV file or view it in a web browser.

CSV/HTML

Depending on whether the report was generated in HTML or CSV format, you can use the buttons to the right of the table to save the report as a CSV file or view it in a web browser.

For a scheduled report, the buttons display the last instance of the report. Click the OPTIONS button to access previous instances of the report.

The System menu is displayed along the top of the ViewPoint window. The menu contains options that allow you to perform tasks such as to generate reports, configure ViewPoint and log out.

Setting up Fleets

Introduction

Selecting FLEETS from the System menu displays the Fleet Setup page. You can use the Fleet Setup page to change the name of a fleet, assign search tags or filters to the fleet and specify the scheduled reports that ViewPoint users of the fleet receive.

A fleet is a collection of one or more units. A new fleet can be created by specifying the name of the new fleet when adding a terminal in the Terminal Setup page. You can move a terminal to a new or different fleet using of the Modify tab of the Unit Options page.

About filters

Filters allow you to provide additional information about units, such as the vehicle type, cargo carried, security requirement or other attribute of the tracked asset. You can use this page to define the filter names (such as "Vehicle Type") and the allowable filter values (such as "Flat Bed", "Land Rover" and "Motor Bike"). When you create a unit using the Terminal Setup page, you specify the filter values to apply to that unit. You can modify the filter values assigned to a unit using the Modify tab of the Unit Options page.

Filters can make it easier to identify units on the ViewPoint map or access unit details in the Terminal Setup page, since you can use the filters to view only units that have selected filter values. There can be up to four filters per fleet.

About tags

Tags are similar to filters, since they are used to provide additional information about units. Tags differ from filters in that you do not have predefined tag values; the values can be any text. You can use this page to define the tag names.

You can define the tag values when modifying a unit in the Modify tab of the Unit Options page. If you select Prompt on add unit when setting up a tag in this page, you can

specify the tag value when adding a new terminal in the Terminal Setup page.

The Terminal Setup page allows you to search for units with a specified tag value.

Page Options and Features

Fleet

Select a fleet from this menu to display tabs that allow you to change the name of the fleet or assign search tags or filters to it.

If you select All Fleets, the page provides information and options for all fleets that you

have access to.

Clicking the following icon resets the menu to the All Fleets setting:

Name/Tags/Filters

The following tabs are displayed if a single fleet is selected:

NAME

The Name tab allows you to rename the currently selected fleet. To rename a fleet:

1. Click the following icon:

2. Enter the new name for the fleet and click APPLY CHANGES.

The RESET button resets the field back to its previous state.

TAGS

The Tabs tab allows you to add, modify and remove tags assigned to the fleet. A table is also displayed, which displays the tags assigned to the fleet and indicates whether you are prompted to assign the tag when adding a terminal.

To add a new tag:

1. Click Add Tag.

2. Enter the name of the tag.

3. Select Prompt on add unit if you want to be prompted to add a tag value to a unit

when adding a terminal to the fleet.

4. Click APPLY ADD.

FILTERS

The Filters tab allows you to add, modify and remove filters and filter values assigned to the fleet. A table is also displayed, which displays the filters and the number of values defined for each filter.

To modify the name of a filter or add/modify its filter values, click the following icon, followed by the appropriate option:

To delete a filter, click:

If displayed, clicking Add Filter allows you to add a new filter.

Note: RESET resets a field back to its previous state.

REPORT RECIPIENTS

The Report Recipients tab lists the email address of each person who is to receive scheduled reports. The tab shows the number of scheduled reports that each recipient is set up to receive.

The email addresses listed in this tab can appear either by using Add a new recipient, or

by specifying a new email address when defining a scheduled report in the Reports tab.

When you click Add a new recipient, you can specify:

The email address of the recipient. As soon as you type, ViewPoint displays a list of matching email addresses from the User Setup page. For example, if you type "tra", ViewPoint displays all email addresses that contain "tra" at any location. Only email addresses that are not currently in the Report Recipients tab are listed.

The scheduled reports the recipient is to receive.

The icons to the right of the table allow you to delete a recipient and change the scheduled reports a recipient is to receive. Deleting a recipient prevents any further scheduled reports from being sent to that person.

TIME ZONE

The Time Zone tab allows you to:

Specify the Fleet Time Zone for scheduled and on-demand reports. When you configure a scheduled or on-demand report (from the Reports tab), the Fleet time zone shown in the Date Format menu is the time zone you select here.

Specify the time zone used in email and SMS notifications sent to contacts, as set up in the Contact Setup page.

For example, if you choose UTC+3, the Fleet time zone in the Date Format menu will be UTC+3. If this zone is used for a report and a message occurred at 12:00 UTC+0, it is displayed as 15:00 in the report.

Fleet Table

This table is displayed if you select All Fleets from the Fleets menu. The table lists the

number of units, filters, tags and scheduled reports assigned to each fleet.

Setting up Contacts

Introduction

Selecting CONTACTS from the System menu displays the Contact Setup page. The page enables you to configure ViewPoint to send SMS and/or email notifications when a unit generates an alert, warning or tracking message. A unit may generate an alert or warning message as a result of, for example, a geofence rule or the operator pressing the Alert button at the terminal.

The Contact Setup page allows you to specify the SMS numbers and email addresses of the contacts that are to receive notifications. The notifications include details such as the date and time the unit generated the message, the unit name, unit position and alert/warning details. You can also define additional text to be included in email notifications.

The times shown in the notifications are displayed in the time zone of the fleet that the unit is in. This can be changed in the Time Zone tab of the Fleet Setup page. For example, if the Fleet time zone is set at UTC+2 and a unit generates an alert at 12:00 UTC, the

notification displays an alert time of 14:00.

You can create up to five email contacts and three SMS contacts per fleet.

Note: SMS and email notifications are available only if enabled by your airtime tariff. The Terminal Setup page shows whether your tariff includes these features.

Setting the notification level

A Level option is provided when you add or modify a contact. This determines the conditions that cause a notification to be sent to the contact. The following table explains the behavior.

Level Notification Sent

urgent Only:

- When a unit first generates an alert message.

cancel As urgent, and:

- When the unit alert status returns to "ok".

alert (email only)

As cancel, and:

- Each time a unit generates the same alert message.

exception (email only)

As alert, and:

- When a unit first generates a warning message, and each time the unit generates the same warning message.

normal (email only)

As exception, and:

- When the unit sends a normal tracking message.

Fleet Contact Summary Table

Fleet

This displays the fleet name.

Units

This displays the number of units in the fleet.

SMS

This indicates whether your tariff has allowed all units in the fleet to subscribe to the SMS service. ViewPoint is able to generate SMS notifications only for units that are subscribed to the SMS service.

A green checkmark is displayed if all units are subscribed. A red cross is displayed if no units are subscribed. A red warning triangle indicates that there is a mixture of units with and without subscriptions.

You can use the Terminal Setup page to determine which units are subscribed to the service.

Note: You cannot see from the Contact Setup page whether all units are subscribed to the email service. Refer to the Terminal Setup page for this information.

SMS Contacts

This displays:

The number of SMS contacts you have set up for the fleet.

An ADD SMS option, which allows you to add a new SMS contact. Enter the SMS phone number in the format shown on the page. See "Setting the notification level" above for details of the Level option.

Email Contacts

This displays:

The number of email contacts you have set up for the fleet.

An ADD EMAIL option, which allows you to add a new email contact. See "Setting the notification level" above for details of the Level option.

Message

This displays:

A green checkmark if the message to include in email notifications contains text. A red cross is displayed if the message is currently blank.

An ADD MESSAGE or EDIT MESSAGE option, which allows you to add or edit the message. The message is used only for email notifications generated for the selected fleet. The RESET button resets the field back to its previous state.

Fleet Contact Details Table

This table is displayed if you select a specific fleet that has contacts from the Fleet menu.

The table shows all contacts set up for the selected fleet.

Type

This shows whether the contact is an SMS or email contact.

Contact

This shows the SMS number or email address.

Level

This shows the level of the event that is required to generate the notification. See "Setting the notification level" above for details of the Level option.

MODIFY

Click this button to change the SMS number or email address of the contact, or the notification level. See "Setting the notification level" above for details of the Level option.

Any changes you make are effective immediately and apply to events detected from that point onwards.

DELETE

Click this button to delete the contact.

Setting up Users

Introduction

Selecting USERS from the System menu displays the User Setup page, which enables users of the ViewPoint application to be set up. Each user of ViewPoint can belong to one or more fleets.

When using the User Setup page, you can:

Answer an invitation from another user to join a fleet.

Invite others to become ViewPoint users and join fleets.

View fleet user statistics.

View the users assigned to fleets.

View information about your own ViewPoint user account, such as your user access level within each fleet.

View and edit other users in the fleets that you belong to.

Remove users from fleets.

Note: You can access only the fleets that you belong to.

Creating a new user

A new user can be created by clicking Register in the ViewPoint Login page and entering the required information. The email address is used as the user name.

Note: Inviting a person to join a fleet (see "Inviting a user to join a fleet" below) sends an email to that person, which contains a link to register as a new user. After registering, ViewPoint sends an email for security validation purposes.

Inviting a user to join a fleet

To invite a user to join a fleet:

1. Click ADD USER in the 'Fleet User Summary' table.

2. Enter the email address of the person, specify a user access level and click

INVITE. The person is sent an email to join the fleet.

3. The person must log into ViewPoint and click ACCEPT in the 'Fleet Invitations'

table. The table is displayed automatically at login for a new user. For an existing user, the user must access the table from the User Setup page (and refresh the browser to display data from the new fleet). The email provides a link to log into ViewPoint.

Note: If the person is not already a ViewPoint user, they must first register as a new

user (see "Creating a new user" above).

About user access levels

Each user can have one of the following user access levels, which determines the range of tasks the user can carry out in ViewPoint:

Viewer

This allows the user only to view information in ViewPoint.

Operator

This gives the user Viewer rights and the ability to supervise day-to-day operations, such as to communicate with terminals and reset alarm conditions.

Fleet Manager

This gives the user Viewer and Operator rights and the ability to perform maintenance tasks for specified fleets. The user is not, however, able to move terminals to different fleets.

User Manager

This gives the user full access to all ViewPoint options and features.

Note: A user can have different user access levels for different fleets.

Page Options and Features

Fleet

Select a fleet from this menu to list information about the users in the selected fleet.

If you select All Fleets, the page provides information and options for all fleets that you

have access to.

Fleet Invitations Table

This table is displayed only if you have an outstanding invitation to join a fleet. The table allows you to accept or decline the invitation.

Fleet

This displays the name of the fleet that you have been invited to join.

Invited By

This displays the name of the ViewPoint user who has invited you to join the fleet.

Action

Click ACCEPT if you wish to accept the invitation to join the fleet, or REJECT if you want

to decline the invitation.

My Fleet Access Table

This table gives information about your user account.

Fleet

This lists the names of the fleets that you are assigned to. The column is displayed only if you have selected All Fleets in the Fleet menu.

Access Level

This displays your user access level in the fleet. See the introduction to this help topic for information about access levels.

Fleet User Summary Table

This table allows you to invite a ViewPoint user to join a fleet and displays fleet user statistics.

ADD USER

Click this button to invite a ViewPoint user to join the fleet. When prompted, specify the following:

Invite User Email Address - Enter the email address of the ViewPoint user to be

invited to join the fleet.

User Access Level - Define the user access level of the ViewPoint user.

INVITE - Click this button to send the invitation to the user.

Units

This shows the number of terminals that are currently assigned to the fleet.

Invited

This shows the number of ViewPoint users that have been invited to join the fleet, but have not yet accepted. If a user declines an invitation, this number is reduced by one.

Declined

This shows the number of ViewPoint users that have declined an invitation to join the fleet.

Viewers

This shows the number of users that have the Viewer access level in the fleet.

Operators

This shows the number of users that have the Operator access level in the fleet.

Fleet Managers

This shows the number of users that have the Fleet Manager access level in the fleet.

User Managers

This shows the number of users that have the User Manager access level in the fleet.

Fleet User Details Table

This table is displayed if you select a specific fleet from the Fleet menu. The table contains information about each user in the fleet. It also allows you to remove, modify and audit users.

DELETE

Clicking the DELETE button removes the user from the fleet (but does not delete the

user's account).

MODIFY

Clicking the MODIFY button allows you to change the user's access level within the

selected fleet.

AUDIT

Clicking the AUDIT button allows you to view the audit log, which contains the actions the user has carried out and information about those actions. Most information in the reports is self-explanatory. See "Common Report Headings" for details of columns that may not be self-explanatory.

The page contains the following options:

Oldest first

This arranges the audit log with the oldest entry at the top.

Date filter

The page contains date filter, which allows you to view all entries within a specific date/time period

Save

This saves the audit log to a Comma-Separated Value (CSV) file for use in spreadsheet or other applications

Username

This shows the username of the ViewPoint user in the fleet.

Name

This shows the name of the ViewPoint user in the fleet.

Access Level

This shows the user access level of the ViewPoint user in the fleet.

Setting up Terminals

Introduction

Selecting TERMINALS from the System menu displays the Terminal Setup page. You can

use the page to view, add and delete terminals assigned to the fleets that you belong to.

This page also allows you to create a new fleet. To do this, choose NEW FLEET when

adding a terminal, and specify the fleet name.

You can move an existing terminal to a new fleet and enter additional information about the unit using the Modify tab of the Unit Options page.

What are terminals and units?

A terminal is the physical, real-world tracker that communicates with ViewPoint. When adding a terminal to ViewPoint, you specify a unit name, which can, for example, represent a vehicle, field operative, container or other asset. The unit name is displayed in the ViewPoint map, mailbox messages and other pages of the user interface.

Page Options and Features

Fleet

Select a fleet from this menu to list all units assigned to the selected fleet.

If you select All Fleets, the page provides information and options for all fleets that you

have access to.

Clicking the following icon resets the menu to All Fleets and clears all Unit/Search

options:

Unit

Select a unit from this menu to list the details only of that unit. You can reset the menu to All Units by clicking the following icon next to Fleet:

Filter menus

Filter menus are displayed only if you select a fleet that has filters, as assigned in the Fleet Setup page. Selecting a filter value displays only those units that match the selected value.

Search

To search for a particular unit, select the search criteria from this menu, enter search text in the field and click the following icon:

All units that match the search text are displayed (case is not important). You can use the * wildcard if you wish; for example, entering *CTS* finds all units that have "CTS" in any part of the search criteria.

The menu contains Callsign, Name, Registration and Unit Type options, which are defined in the Modify tab of the Unit Options page. If a single fleet is selected, the menu also contains any search tags set up in the Fleet Setup page.

Clicking the following icon clears the search field and lists all units:

Units

This shows the number of terminals assigned to the currently selected fleet(s).

ADD TERMINAL

Click this button to add a terminal to a fleet. When prompted, specify:

Inmarsat Serial No (ISN) and Terminal Serial No - These are provided with the terminal. Depending on the terminal type, the information may be provided on a label on the terminal, in the accessory pack, on the outside packaging or under the battery compartment. This information must be kept in a safe place, as it will be needed to re-add the terminal if it is removed for any reason.

Unit Name - Specify a unit name.

Add to Fleet - You can assign the terminal to an existing fleet. Alternatively, choose NEW FLEET if you want to create a new fleet and assign the terminal to this fleet. If you create a new fleet, you are automatically given User Manager privileges to the fleet.

Note: You can move an existing terminal to a different fleet using the Modify tab of

the Unit Options page.

Filter menus - Filter menus are displayed only if the fleet specified in Add to Fleet has filters, as set up in the Fleet Setup page. You can use the menus to provide additional information about the unit.

Tag fields - Tag fields are displayed only if the fleet specified in Add to Fleet has tags with Prompt on add unit selected in the Fleet Setup page. You can use the fields to provide additional information about the unit.

After entering the details of the terminal, click ADD TERMINAL. To clear all the fields, click RESET.

IMPORT CSV

You can use IMPORT CSV to add multiple terminals at the same time using a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file created in a spreadsheet or other application. The CSV file must be in the following format:

Followed by one line for each terminal in the following format:

DELETE

Click this button to remove the terminal from ViewPoint. You may want to remove a terminal to allow re-sale or transfer of terminals between users.

Note that removing a terminal does not cancel the airtime contract or stop the terminal from transmitting, although it does prevent it from being tracked and monitored in ViewPoint.

Unit

This displays the unit name.

Fleet

This displays the name of the fleet that the unit is assigned to.

Comms Address

This displays the Inmarsat Serial Number (ISN) and indicates whether the terminal has a valid tariff.

Script

This identifies the use of the terminal.

Script Type

This identifies the hardware platform used by the terminal.

This indicates whether your tariff allows the unit to subscribe to the SMS service. ViewPoint is able to generate SMS notifications (as set up in the Contact Setup page) only for units that are subscribed to the SMS service.

MSG

Indicates whether your tariff allows the unit to subscribe to the email messaging service. ViewPoint is able to generate email notifications (as set up in the Contact Setup page) only for units that are subscribed to the email messaging service.

MAP

This shows whether the unit can be displayed on the ViewPoint map, and is dependent on the airtime tariff.

Last Message

This displays the date and time that ViewPoint received the most recent message from the unit.

Status

This displays the current status of the unit (Alert and/or Warning). No message is

displayed if the unit is in its normal state.

Setting up Codebooks

Introduction

Selecting CODEBOOKS from the System menu displays the Codebook Setup page. You

can use the page to create, view, edit, import and export codebooks.

About codebooks

A codebook is used by ViewPoint and each Osprey terminal to control the messages, additional information text and addresses that can be sent between them. For example, a codebook on an Osprey may allow the operator to select a message such as "Medical emergency", additional information such as "Fractured limb" and an address such as "Base".

When a message is transmitted from an Osprey to ViewPoint (or vice versa), each item in the message (e.g. "Medical Emergency") is sent as a code, rather than as text. The codebook translates the code into the correct text string. This reduces the amount of data to transmit, but requires the sender and receiver to use the same codebook to ensure that the messages have the same meaning at both ends.

If a message is sent from one Osprey to another, and the Ospreys do not have the exact same codebook and version as each other, the message at the receiving end contains the other operator's location, but no message content. This is to prevent confusion if a message code has a different meaning at each end.

Once you have finished creating or editing a codebook, you need to make sure that it is loaded onto the appropriate Ospreys using the Uploader application, as described later in this help topic. Once loaded, you can make changes to an Osprey's codebook "over air" (that is, via the satellite link).

Note: All Ospreys in the same fleet should use the same version of codebook to ensure

that messages can be sent between them.

Codebooks also allow Ospreys to send predefined reports to ViewPoint. For more information, see "About Advanced Codebooks and Codebook Reports".

About system and user codebooks

ViewPoint is supplied with several built-in codebooks. These are indicated by "System" in the Type column of the Codebook Table. The built-in "Osprey Default" codebook is installed by default on all new Ospreys; this enables ViewPoint to communicate with any new Osprey that has been added in the Terminal Setup page. System codebooks are available to any fleet and cannot be edited.

You can set up to 10 user-defined codebooks per fleet in ViewPoint. These are indicated by "User" in the Type column and are assigned to a specific fleet.

Creating a new codebook

You can create a new codebook by clicking CREATE CODEBOOK. You can set up the codebook by clicking the DETAILS button for the new codebook, then modifying or adding the appropriate fields.

Note: You must load the codebook onto the required Ospreys, as described later in this help topic.

Copying a codebook

Instead of using CREATE CODEBOOK, it is normally easier to copy an existing

codebook and modify the copy. You can do this as follows:

1. Click the DETAILS button for the codebook you want to copy.

2. Click COPY, and specify the fleet, interface, name and description of the new

codebook.

3. Click the DETAILS button for the new codebook and modify the appropriate fields.

Importing codebooks

You can use IMPORT CSV to create a codebook from a Comma Separated Value (CSV)

file created in a spreadsheet or other application.

Note: Only codebooks with the "Basic" codebook interface are able to be imported using

a CSV file.

Note: You must load the codebook onto the required Ospreys, as described later in this

help topic.

To define the CSV file using, for example, a spreadsheet application:

1. In the first row, enter the header "#Category,Messages:250,Additional

Info:100,Address*:100":

Note: Do not change the numbers in the header.

Viewing, editing or deleting a codebook

Note: You can edit or delete only those codebooks marked as "User" in the Type column. Editing a codebook does not automatically update the Ospreys. You must load the edited codebook onto the required Ospreys or use an over-air update, as described later in this help topic.

Clicking the DETAILS button displays the Codebook Setup page, which you can use to

view, edit or delete the codebook.

Using the Uploader application to load a codebook onto an Osprey

You can load a new or edited codebook onto an Osprey as follows:

1. If required, create or modify the codebook, and publish it from the codebook

details.

2. Use the EXPORT option to export the codebook to a cbk file.

3. Install the Osprey Uploader application onto a PC. You can download the

application from the Downloads page.

4. Connect a USB lead from the Osprey to the PC.

5. Start the Uploader application. This is located in Start/Programs/EMS Global

Tracking/Osprey Uploader.

6. Click Get Version.

7. Choose the codebook and firmware files. You can download the latest firmware

from the Downloads page.

8. Click Upload and wait until the status field shows that the upload was successful

and the Osprey can be unplugged.

9. Switch on the Osprey. The Osprey goes through the registration process.

10. Check the Codebook Setup page to make sure that ViewPoint recognizes that

all Ospreys are up to date.

Note: Updating the codebook using the Uploader application clears all existing messages in the Osprey.

Performing an over-air update

After editing a codebook, you can update Ospreys automatically over-air (that is, via the satellite link).

The Units Up to Date column shows the number of Ospreys that have the latest version

of the codebook. A red cross indicates that not all Ospreys are up to date; for example:

This indicates that 1 out of 3 Ospreys have the latest version of the codebook.

You can perform an over-air update as follows:

1. Click the UNITS button next to the red cross in the Units Up To Date column.

This displays the Codebook Usage Table, which allows you to determine the version of the codebook that the Ospreys are currently using.

2. Click PATCH ALL CODEBOOKS to update all Ospreys. Alternatively, if you want

to update only selected Ospreys (not recommended), click UNITS in the Codebook Usage Table, followed by PATCH UNIT CODEBOOK for the Osprey you want to update.

You can use the Mailbox tab to view the progress of the codebook update. When the codebook at an Osprey has updated, you will see "acknowledged" in the Progress

column for the "Update Codebook" message.

Note: Each over-air update applies only one version of the codebook at a time. Each time you use ADD or EDIT in a published codebook, a new version of the codebook is created, even if you make the changes in the same codebook editing session. If, for example, you make two changes to the codebook, two new versions of the codebook are created, and you will need to use PATCH ALL CODEBOOKS or PATCH UNIT CODEBOOK twice to implement the two changes.

Select a fleet from this menu to list all System and User codebooks assigned to the selected fleet.

If you select All Fleets, the page provides information and options for all fleets that you have access to.

using a CSV file.

Note: The "Advanced" codebook interface is for use only with Osprey firmware

version 2.2 and above.

Codebook Name - Enter a name of your choice.

Description - Optionally, enter descriptive details about the codebook.

File (only displayed when importing a codebook) - Click Choose File to browse your computer for the CSV file to import. See "Importing codebooks" above for more information.

Codebook Table

ID

Each codebook has a numeric ID that is automatically assigned by ViewPoint.

This shows the codebook version number. ViewPoint increments the version number each time you make a change to a published codebook.

Codebook/DETAILS

This displays the name of the codebook, as specified when it was created, and a DETAILS button, which you can use to view, edit or delete the codebook. You can edit and delete only those codebooks marked as "User" in the Type column. Clicking DETAILS displays the following tables:

Codebook Header

This table displays the following:

ID - Each codebook has a numeric ID that is automatically assigned by ViewPoint.

Name - The name of the codebook, as specified when it was created.

Version - This shows the codebook version number. ViewPoint increments the version number each time you make a change to a published codebook, and each time you click REVERT.

Baseline - This is increased by one each time you click REVERT. Ospreys must

have the displayed baseline version to support over-air updates.

Description - The description of the codebook, as specified when it was created.

Type - "User" or "System". See "About system and user codebooks" above.

Interface - "Basic" or "Advanced", as specified when the codebook was first

created.

Status - This displays the current status of the codebook (draft, published or

withdrawn) and applicable options:

PUBLISH - Publishes the codebook. Publishing a codebook changes the status from draft to published, enables the EXPORT button and causes the version

number to be increased by one each time the codebook is edited.

REVERT - Changes the status from published to draft. This is available only if the

codebook is not in use.

DELETE - Deletes the codebook.

COPY - Copies the codebook to create another. The default codebook is often

the best to copy, since it is comprehensively set up.

WITHDRAW - Withdraws the codebook from use. Withdrawing a codebook stops it being available during registration of new Ospreys, but allows the codebook to work with any Ospreys currently registered with it. This allows the codebook to be gradually withdrawn from use. This option is available only if at least one Osprey is using the codebook. Once withdrawn, a codebook cannot be edited, copied or republished.

Units - The total number of Ospreys using the codebook.

Fields

This table lists the three types of field included in each transmission sent from an Osprey.

The Entries column shows the maximum number of items of that type allowed in the codebook. The Size column indicates the number of bits the field uses in a message. The RELAY flag indicates that the address is relayed to other Ospreys, in addition to ViewPoint. The POI Long Press column displays the message string that will be

sent to ViewPoint when the Osprey operator holds down the POI button.

Categories

This table defines the categories available to Osprey operators when they compose a message.

The Entries table defines which messages, additional information texts and addresses are assigned to each category.

Use Edit to edit a category, or Add to add a new category.

Messages and additional information texts intended to be sent from ViewPoint to an Osprey are not to be assigned to any category.

Entries

You can use this table to specify the messages, additional information texts and addresses available to ViewPoint and Osprey operators, and the categories that each is in.

A "Message" entry can be used to define a message for use with Osprey terminals, or for advanced codebooks to define a codebook report.

Click EDIT if you want to edit the message, additional information text or address, or ADD to add a new one. ADD is in rows that have no string defined. You cannot change string 0, which is always "(None)". Each time you use ADD or EDIT for a

published codebook, a new version of the codebook is created.

Entry type ("Message" ADD/EDIT dialog only) - This drop-down menu allows

you to select one of the following options:

Codebook Message - Identifies the entry as a message. For example, "Medical

Emergency" for selection at an Osprey or ViewPoint.

Codebook Report - This is available only for advanced codebooks and is used

to define a codebook report.

Field - This defines whether the item is a message, additional information text or

address.

String - This defines the message, additional information text or address, or for a

codebook report, the name of the report.

For an address, you can enter the name of any of the following:

Value List (ADD/EDIT dialog only) - This is displayed only if Entry Type is set to Codebook Report. Defines which report value list to include in the codebook

report. For example, "Weight Ranges".

Send Position (ADD/EDIT dialog only) - This is displayed only if Entry Type is set to Codebook Report. This sends a tracking message after the codebook

report.

Categories - This defines the categories the item is in. It is normal for an address to be in all categories. Messages and additional information texts that are not assigned to any category are for ViewPoint to send to Ospreys.

Flags - Allows you to set the POI Long Press flag, which sends the message string to ViewPoint when the Osprey operator holds down the POI button. Only one message can have the POI Long Press flag set. This option is not available once the codebook has been published

V (table only) - This shows the codebook version that was generated when the item was last changed.

Updated (table only) - This shows the date and time of the last change to the item.

Published/EXPORT

The left side of this column contains one of the following icons:

A green checkmark is displayed if the codebook has been published using the PUBLISH button in the codebook details. Publishing a codebook enables the EXPORT button and causes the version number to be increased by one each time

the codebook is edited.

The EXPORT button allows you to export the codebook to a cbk file, which you can load onto an Osprey using the Uploader application (see "Using the Uploader

application to load a codebook onto an Osprey" above).

A red cross indicates a withdrawn codebook, as set in the codebook details. A withdrawn codebook is one that is no longer available when registering new Ospreys. Withdrawn codebooks can be viewed only.

An open padlock indicates that the codebook is a draft. A new codebook has a draft status until the PUBLISH button is selected in the codebook details.

Units Up To Date?

This column shows how many Ospreys that use the codebook are up to date with the latest version of that codebook. It is important for all Ospreys to be up to date. The field can have one of three states:

A red cross indicates that not all Ospreys are up to date. The example shown opposite indicates that 1 out of 3 Ospreys that use the codebook are up to date.

A green checkmark indicates that all Ospreys are up to date.

EMPTY If the field is empty, no Ospreys that have registered with ViewPoint are using the codebook.

Clicking the UNITS button displays the Codebook Usage Table, which allows you to determine the version of the codebook that the Ospreys are currently using. The table contains a PATCH ALL CODEBOOKS button in the Information column if Ospreys are not up to date; see "Performing an over-air update" above.

Type

See "About system and user codebooks" above.

Fleet

This displays the name of the fleet that the codebook is assigned to. Built-in System codebooks are applicable to any fleet.

Setting up Groups

Introduction

Selecting GROUPS from the System menu displays the Group Setup page. You can use

the page to set up one or more groups for a selected fleet.

A group is a collective name for one or more personnel. For example, you could create groups named "Drivers", "Medical Personnel" and "Managers". Once you have added a group, you can assign personnel to that group using the Personnel Setup page.

Groups are used by Osprey personal trackers. If the operator of an Osprey selects a group when composing a message, the message is sent to all personnel in that group.

Note: You need to make sure that the codebook contains an address entry for each group you define. The name of the address entry must be the same as the group name. The default codebook contains addresses for "Group 1" and "Group 2".

Setting up Personnel

Introduction

Selecting PERSONNEL from the System menu displays the Personnel Setup page. You can use the page to add personnel to a selected fleet. Adding personnel to ViewPoint enables operators of Osprey terminals to:

Log in to terminals. Osprey logins are required if specified using Set Login Mode in the Configure tab of the Unit Options page. If a login is required, the operator must enter a unique personnel ID, or the ID and a PIN, depending on the setting of Set Login Mode. Both the ID and PIN are defined in the personnel entry.

Address messages to a specific person in the fleet, or to everyone in a selected group (as defined in the Group Setup page).

Mobile-to-Mobile Messaging

Osprey operators are able to address a message to a specific person who is logged in to an Osprey. To send a message to a person, you need to make sure that the codebook contains an address entry for that person. The name of the address entry must be the same as the person's Name Tag, as defined in the personnel entry. The default codebook contains an address for a person named "Team Leader", which you may want to use.

ADD PERSON

Forename - Optionally, enter the person's forename(s).

PIN - Optionally, enter a Personal Identification Number (PIN). The person must enter the PIN to log in at an Osprey if User ID & PIN required is selected for Set Login Mode in the Configure tab of the Unit Options page.

Groups - Optionally, select the groups that the person belongs to.

Personnel Table

This table is displayed if you select a specific fleet from the Fleets menu.

ID

Each person has a numeric ID that is automatically assigned by ViewPoint. The person needs to know the ID if required to log in to an Osprey, as determined by Set Login Mode in the Configure tab of the Unit Options page.

Name Tag/DETAILS

This displays:

The name of the person, as it appears in the address list at Ospreys.

A DETAILS button, which you can use to view, edit or delete the person's details. The displayed details are the same as in the Personnel Table, with the exception of the following additional fields:

Added - Shows the date the person was added.

Updated - Shows the date the person's details were last updated.

Surname

This displays the person's surname.

Forename(s)

This displays the person's forename(s).

Information

This displays the descriptive details about the person.

PIN

This displays "Set" or "Not set", depending on whether the user has a PIN. See the help for the ADD PERSON button for further information about PINs.

Unit

This displays the name of the unit that the person is logged in to.

The unit name is available only if the person has logged into an Osprey (using the user ID, or user ID and PIN). The unit name is identified from the Osprey that the person has used, as specified in the Terminals page.

Since

This displays the date and time that ViewPoint received a message confirming that a person has logged in to the unit named in the Unit column.

Fleet Personnel Table

This table is displayed if you select All Fleets from the Fleets menu. The table lists the total number of personnel assigned to each fleet. The table contains a PERSONNEL button for each fleet; clicking the button has the same effect as selecting a fleet from the Fleets menu.

Setting up Points of Interest

Introduction

Selecting POI from the System menu displays the Points of Interest Setup page. The page lists all points of interest for a selected fleet, or for all fleets. It also allows you to export or import points of interest to or from a Comma-Separated Value (CSV) file.

Click here for general information about points of interest, and how to use the Points of Interest panel to create, edit and delete points of interest.

Fleet

Select a fleet to list all points of interest for the selected fleet. Select All Fleets to list points of interest for all fleets that your login privileges have access to.

You can use this option to add or modify points of interest using a CSV file. The format of the CSV file is the same as the CSV file produced using the EXPORT option. The easiest method to ensure correct formatting of the import file is to edit a CSV file created using the EXPORT option.

Existing points of interest cannot be deleted by importing a CSV file.

An existing point of interest can be modified by ensuring that the ID of the point of interest in the CSV file is the same as the ID of the existing entry in the table. You can determine the ID of each existing point of interest from the CSV file created using the EXPORT

option.

You can add a new point of interest by making sure that its ID is not used by any existing point of interest.

EXPORT

Select this option to export the listed points of interest to a CSV file.

Points of Interest Table

Name

This is the name of the point of interest. The name is blank if it was created from an Osprey (unless subsequently edited).

Type

This shows the general type of the point of interest, such as "Hospital". For a point of interest created from an Osprey, the type is the message selected by the operator, or "(None)" if the operator pressed the POI button.

Position

This is the location of the point of interest.

Active

See "Active Points of Interest".

Updated

This shows the date and time when the point of interest was created or last edited.

Setting up User Preferences

Introduction

Selecting PREFERENCES from the System menu displays the User Preferences page. You can use the page to configure settings that apply only to the ViewPoint user that is currently logged in.

Username

This read-only field displays the user name you used to log in to ViewPoint.

Name

This read-only field displays the name you used when you registered your details with EMS Global Tracking. You may have entered your details after clicking the Register link

in the ViewPoint Login page.

Your registered name cannot be changed, but you can change other details (such as your address) by logging in to the support pages at www.emsglobaltracking.com.

Timezone

Select the time zone in which you are located. This affects the times of messages displayed in ViewPoint. For example, if an Osprey operator sends a message at 12:00 from a location that is at UTC+0 time, and ViewPoint is set to UTC+1, the time shown against that message in ViewPoint is 13:00.

Date & Time Format

You can use these options to change the format of dates and times displayed in ViewPoint.

Unit Sort Options

This option is relevant only if you have selected more units than are supported for the browser you are using. The option allows you to select the default sort order for units listed in the Mailbox tab and shown on different pages of the map. The meaning of each attribute is company specific.

Select Group by fleet if you want ViewPoint to group units first by fleet, then by the attribute selected from the menu (such as Callsign).

Distance Units

Choose the units to use for measurements made using the Measure tool.

Alert Notification Sound

Choose the sound to use when ViewPoint generates an alert.

If you want to listen to the currently selected sound, click the LISTEN button to the right of

the menu.

Note: Contact your EMS representative if alternative sounds are required.

UPDATE

Click this button to apply changes.

CHANGE PASSWORD

Click this button to change you login password to ViewPoint.

Displaying the ViewPoint Help

Selecting HELP from the System menu displays the Help menu, which contains:

Clicking the OPTIONS button from a unit popup, or clicking OPTIONS next to a unit in the Mailbox, Summary or Details tabs, takes you to the Unit Options page for that unit. The Unit Options page allows you to perform actions on the selected unit, such as to display unit information, change attributes and communicate with the unit. Introduction

The Information tab in the Unit Options page displays information about the current unit.

Page Options and Features

Unit

This displays the unit name.

Person

This is displayed if an operator (as set up in the Personnel Setup page) has logged into the terminal. The field displays the name of the person who last logged in.

Fleet

This displays the name of the fleet that the unit is assigned to.

Comms address

This displays the Inmarsat Serial Number (ISN).

Script

This identifies the use of the terminal and the hardware platform it uses.

Codebook

This displays the ID, version number and name of the codebook installed on the unit, as defined in the Codebook Setup page.

Activated on a valid tariff?

This indicates whether the unit's airtime contract is still valid.

Subscribed to the SMS service?

This shows whether the unit can be displayed on the ViewPoint map, and is dependent on the tariff.

Last message

This displays the date and time that ViewPoint received the most recent message from the unit.

Introduction

The Communicate tab in the Unit Options page allows you to send a text message to the unit.

You can send a text message if you have Operator or higher user access level, as set up in the User Setup page.

The page contains drop-down menus containing messages that can be sent to the unit (as defined in the unit's codebook). You can also type a message into the text field of up to 40 characters. If you wish, you can set one or both menus to (None).

After you have selected and/or typed your message, click SUBMIT to send the message to

the unit.

Unit Options - Configure

Introduction

The Configure tab in the Unit Options page allows you check and modify the configuration of the terminal and to request information from the terminal, such as its current position.

To send a command to change the configuration of a terminal, click the drop-down menu, select an option and click SUBMIT. You can check the progress of a command sent to a

terminal in the Mailbox tab.

Note: The values set in this screen are stored in the terminal and not ViewPoint. Changes made to the terminal configuration take effect once the terminal has received and acknowledged the change in configuration.

Set Tracking Interval

Sets the interval between normal tracking messages from the terminal.

Increasing the interval between communications from the terminal helps to conserve its battery power.

Ping Unit

Checks that the terminal is switched on and is able to communicate with ViewPoint. If successful, you should see an acknowledgement from the terminal in the Mailbox tab.

Poll Unit Location

Prompts the terminal to send its current location coordinates.

Set Alerting Interval

Determines the interval between tracking messages from the unit when in alert mode. During alert mode, the unit is set to a constant receive state.

Set Receive Interval

Sets the time between requests from the terminal to receive commands from ViewPoint.

Increasing the interval between communications from the terminal helps to conserve its battery power.

Reset Alert

Sets the terminal to normal mode (that is, not alert mode) and removes the alert notification from ViewPoint.

Set Login Mode

Determines whether the operator of the terminal needs to log in to the terminal and if a log in is required, whether only a user ID, or both a user ID and PIN are required. The user ID and PIN are defined in the Personnel Setup page.

Set Login Timeout

Sets the time between requests for the operator of the terminal to log in.

Unit Options - Modify

Introduction

The Modify tab in the Unit Options page allows you to modify attributes of the unit, such as the fleet it is assigned to.

Page Options and Features

Unit Name

Specifies the name of the unit to be displayed in ViewPoint.

Callsign

You can enter additional identity information, such as the name of the vehicle containing the unit.

Registration

You can enter additional identity information, such as the registration of the vehicle containing the unit.

Unit Type

You can enter additional identity information, such as the type of vehicle containing the unit.

Assigned to Fleet

You can reassign the terminal to an existing fleet. Alternatively, choose NEW FLEET if you want to create a new fleet and assign the terminal to this fleet.

If you create a new fleet, you are automatically given User Manager privileges to that fleet.

Filter menus

Filter menus are displayed only if the fleet specified in Assigned to Fleet has filters, as set up in the Fleet Setup page. You can use the menus to provide additional information about the unit.

Tag fields

Tag fields are displayed only if the fleet specified in Assigned to Fleet has tags, as set up in the Fleet Setup page. You can use the fields to provide additional information about the unit.

Unit Options - Fences

Introduction

The Fences tab in the Unit Options page lists the geofences set up for the fleet that the unit belongs to. Only those geofences that have a fence rule are listed.

The Name, Type, Radius, Rule, Curfew, Layer and Active columns show how each geofence has been set up in the Geofences panel. The following columns are also available:

Checkpoint Deadline

This is applicable if the geofence has a Waypoint fence rule, as set up in the Geofences panel.

This allows you to specify the time by which the unit must enter the geofence in order to prevent a LATE warning.

To specify the time, select the date and time in the Checkpoint Deadline column and click APPLY CHANGES.

Enable

If Enable is selected and Active is Yes, the rules of the geofence apply to the unit.

Click APPLY CHANGES if you have changed the setting.

Note: For geofences that have an Alert or Warn fence rule, curfew periods (as set in the Geofences panel)determine the active periods of the geofence.

Unit Options - Reports

Introduction

The Reports tab in the Unit Options page allows you to generate reports for the selected unit.

When you select the Reports tab, the following sub-tabs appear; one for each type of

report:

Tracking

Displays information about tracking messages received from the unit.

Route

This option is for future use.

Save

This saves the report to a Comma-Separated Value (CSV) file for use in spreadsheet or other applications.

Inbox

Displays information about all messages received from the unit.

Outbox

Displays information about all messages sent to the unit from ViewPoint. For example, messages that have changed the terminal configuration.

Journey

This report allows you to view information about the speed, distance traveled and location of the unit, separated into legs of "journeys" taken. A journey lists all the events between the vehicle's ignition being switched on and off. If any panic, speed or idle alarms have been raised during a leg of a journey, they are listed in this report.

Note: The availability of this report is terminal dependent.

To view tracking information about a specific leg, click its name in the Leg column.

Alert

Shows whether the unit is in alert mode.

Battery

Displays the battery life of the unit from 0 to 3, with 3 representing full charge.

Note: This column is applicable only for certain types of terminal.

Callsign

Displays additional information about the unit, such as the name of the vehicle containing the unit.

Course

Displays the direction in which the unit is traveling.

Date & Time

Where applicable, this displays the date and time that ViewPoint sent or received the message.

FID

Fleet Identification number.

GPS

Displays "fix" if the unit obtained GPS coordinates for that tracking message.

If no fix is displayed, the Position column displays the last-known coordinates of the unit.

Ignition

Displays whether the ignition to the vehicle carrying the unit is "On" or "Off".

Note: This column is applicable only for certain types of terminal.

Location

This column in the Mailbox Tab displays the location of the unit at the time when the message was sent.

If available, this also displays the time that the message was sent. This may be earlier than the time ViewPoint received the message, as shown in the Date & Time column.

Note: The time is displayed only for certain types of terminal.

Progress

Displays the progress of a message being sent to a unit. For more information, see "Using the Mailbox Tab"

Registration

Displays additional information about the unit, such as the registration of the vehicle containing the unit.

SAID

The SAID (Service Activation IDentifier) number of a terminal is a number derived from the Inmarsat Serial Number (ISN) and Service Order number (the number that identifies the airtime contract for the terminal).

Unit Type

Displays additional information about the unit, such as the type of vehicle containing the unit.

Warning

Displays warnings associated with the unit.

Waypoint

This lists any geofences set up with a Waypoint fence rule. The column shows the name of the geofence and the following position information:

Entry - Indicates that the unit has recently entered the geofence. The unit's previous tracking message was located inside the geofence; the message before that was outside the geofence.

Exit - Indicates that the unit has recently exited the geofence. The unit's previous tracking message was located outside the geofence; the message before that was inside the geofence.

Within - Indicates that the unit has been inside the geofence for at least two message periods.

Additional Information

About Advanced Codebooks and Codebook Reports

Codebook reports are a feature of advanced codebooks that allow predefined reports to be sent from an Osprey to ViewPoint. For example, the report could contain the weight of each type of fish caught by a fishing vessel. The items to be reported on and the values assigned to those items must be defined in the codebook.

When an Osprey sends a codebook report to ViewPoint, the report is displayed in the Text

column of the mailbox tab. For example:

Message: Weight of Fish Caught

Bluefin Tuna: 11-15kg Cod: (None)

Haddock: 16-20kg Swordfish: 6-10kg

Plaice: 31-40kg

Note: Advanced codebooks are for use only with Osprey firmware version 2.2 and above.

How to Set Up a Codebook Report

You can set up a codebook report as follows:

1. Create or copy a codebook and select Advanced (Osprey 2.2) in the Codebook

Interface menu.

2. In the Codebook table, click the DETAILS button next to the name of the new

codebook.

3. Optionally, click the ADD button in the Categories table to create a different category

to use for codebook reports, as it may be useful for Osprey users to have a separate option to generate codebook reports. Enter the name of the category and click APPLY CHANGES. For example, "Reports".

4. Click the ADD button in the Report Items table near the bottom of the page to specify

the subject to report on, such as "Types of Fish" or "Car Manufacturers" and click APPLY CHANGES.

5. Click the ADD button in the table below the subject name of the report. This allows you

to add a new item to report on, such as "Tuna". Enter the name of the item entry, click APPLY CHANGES and repeat this step as required to add additional items (such as "Cod").

6. Click the ADD button in the Report Values table at the bottom of the page to enter a

type of value, such as "Weight" or "Number". Enter the type of value and click APPLY CHANGES.

7. Click the ADD button in the table below the type of value to assign it a new value, such

as "<10kg" or "11-20kg". Enter the value and click APPLY CHANGES. Repeat this step to assign additional values. The (None) entry is entered by default and provides a zero-

value option to the Osprey user.

8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 as required to add new types of value.

9. Click an ADD button next to Message in the Entries table to add a new codebook

report and follow these steps:

a. Select Codebook Report from the Entry type menu.

b. Enter the name of the codebook report in the String field, such as "Weight of Fish

Caught".

c. In the Item List, select the subject of the codebook report, such as "Types of

Fish" (as created in step 4).

d. In the Value List, select the type of value to include in the codebook report, such

as "Weight" (as created in step 6).

e. Select Send Position if you want to send a position message when the codebook

report is sent.

f. Select which categories you want the codebook report to be in.

Repeat step 9 as required for each combination of item list (report subject) and value list (type of value). For example, one codebook report could contain "Deep Sea Fish Caught" (as the subject of the report) and "Number" (as the type of value), another could contain "Deep Sea Fish Caught" and "Weight", and another could contain "Shallow Sea Fish Caught" and "Number".

Note: Please refer to the Advanced Codebooks application note for an example of creating a report from an Osprey.

Map Options Bar

The menus and options in this bar allow you to change the appearance and content of the map, and measure the distance between points. See "Using the Map Options Bar".

Map Area

This displays the map using the selected style and magnification (zoom) factor. A key to the meaning of the icons that can be displayed on the map is shown near the bottom-right corner of the map.

Reporting Tabs

MAILBOX shows all position, tracking, status, configuration and text messages stored in the ViewPoint database, sent to and from all selected units. See "Using the Mailbox Tab".

SUMMARY provides shows information about the most recent tracking message sent from the selected units. See "Using the Summary Tab".

DETAILS gives further information about the selected units, including the ISN, activation status, tariff features and script type. See "Using the Details Tab".

REPORTS allows you to generate scheduled and on-demand reports. See "Using the Reports Tab".

You can resize the tabs area by dragging the border. You can also minimize or maximize the area by clicking the triangular button.

Live View or History View

This area allows you to view live or historical tracking data. See "Using the Live and History Views".

Active Points of Interest

Points of interest that have an "Active" status can be referenced in ViewPoint location reports, such as in the Location column of the Mailbox tab. The name of an active point of interest is used in preference to a city, town or other location name if it is closer to the reported position than any standard location in the database. For example, a location report could display 52-03'29"N 2-13'53"W At POI: Depot1, where "Depot1" is a point of interest.

By default, points of interest created by an Osprey are not set to "active". You can change the status to "active" by modifying the point of interest.

Terminal Dependent

Certain options and features in ViewPoint are dependent on the type of terminal that you are using. This is due to different types of terminal having different functionality and being able to send ViewPoint different types of data.

Language Selection

This menu allows you to specify which language ViewPoint is displayed in. See "Selecting the Language".

Codebook Category

When an operator uses an Osprey to compose a message, the operator selects a message category first. The selected category determines the message strings, additional information texts and addresses that the operator can select. For example, selecting the category named "Emergency" may allow (amongst others) a message of "Taking on water", an additional information text of "Send assistance" and an address of "Base".

When defining a new codebook, you define the categories, then specify the message strings, additional information texts and addresses that are associated with each category. There can be up to 14 categories.

One category can have a POI flag. This determines the message strings, additional information texts and addresses that the operator can select after a quick press of the POI button.

Locator Area

This displays the dynamic position of the mouse pointer and allows you to locate items. See "Using the Locator".

Osprey Firmware

Osprey firmware version 2.2 and onwards supports advanced codebooks, ,which can include codebook reporting and internationalized text, as well as basic codebooks.

Osprey firmware version 2.1 supports only basic codebooks.
