2013 Mini Girandola Contest Results Barb Schneider
The mini – girandole contest lives on! We only had 23 entries this year, but the en-tertainment value certainly wasn’t down at all. In the stock class we had a husband and wife team take the two first places, and in the modified division the second place entry received a score of 10, only to be topped by a 10+ score by the winning entry. It was an exciting night of competition! Stock Division Results: Modified Division Results: First Place Larry Vohs First Place Jerry Kobierecki Second Place Sheila Vohs Second Place John Jagerson Third Place Holden Flaig Third Place Jerry Kobierecki The special category results are: Where’s the Crowd John Valovic Halfway to Merrill David Holcomb Every Which Way But Up Deb Grajciek To the Moon Larry Vohs Rubber Ball Cadence Miller
Our newest contest this year was spawned from Chris Szots mini - rocket seminar. These are little whistle rockets pressed into medical oral syringes. They really packed a lot of snort! Fourteen people entered one or two rockets each. The results are: First Place Beth Glinski Second Place Holden Flaig, also the “Straight Up” award Third Place Peggy Long, also the “Sidewinder” award Fourth Place Dean Valovic, also the “Shortest Flight” award Thanks to all the people that helped make the contests possible, Jim Biersach and
Chris Szot, Judges Jeanne and Steve Hubing and Jim Freeman, and shooting line help
Paul Biersach and John Jagerson.

One fuse competitions will be held at the August meeting
WPAG Class C Competition Rules for August One Fuse Competition Rules
Class C Competition
The purpose of the Class C Display competitions is not to demonstrate the depth of the competitor’s bank account, nor to show how tightly they can pack material into a given area or how far they can
stretch what should fit into the definition of “Class C”. Instead, these competitions are intended to allow
the competitor to demonstrate creativity and artistry in crafting a well thought out display from materi-als legally available through consumer fireworks distributors.
Definition
Consumer Fireworks (historically known as Class C Common Fireworks) or devices (like cremora Fireball
pots) that are built by club members with the approval of Safety.
Equipment Specifications 1. Any commercial Consumer Fireworks device or combinations of devices meeting the definition above
may be used in this level. Modifications of permitted devices may be made by the competitor as long as
the device continues to meet the Consumer Fireworks definition above. 2. In any competition, reloading of any type of mortar is prohibited.
3. Commercially manufactured match, fuse and any timing fuses are allowed in all competitions. 4. There is no limit to the number of devices fired; however, you can only use one fuse to start your
board or boards. 5. Descriptions of effects are not required.
Class C One Fuse Competitions Level 1
The competitor’s Class C items must be mounted on 1 board 4’ X 2’ – or 8 square feet or less. You may use as many Class C items that will fit on the board and not hang over the edge and lit with one fuse.
Level 2 The competitor’s Class C items must be mounted on 2 boards 4’ X 2’ – or 16 square feet or less. You
may use as many Class C items that will fit on the boards and not hang over the edge and lit with one fuse. An Item may hang over the board if you are angling, but only less than 1/3 of the devices foot
print. In this class you may have 1 rack of mortars or 1 large Class C cake or 1 pyrotechnic device that
is not mounted to the boards.
President’s Column - July 2013
By: Larry Huber
At the June meeting, Chris Szot conducted a class on making bottle rocket sized whis-tle rockets. Quite a few members made a pair of rockets that were launched later in the day with surprising results. The speed and distance travelled stirred many requests for information about the fuel used. Chris has agreed to conduct a seminar to demon-strate making the fuel used in these very small high performance wonders. Also there was a lot of activity as family members assembled the mighty twirling crowd seeks for the afternoon contest entertainment. You should find another article else-where in this issue describing the contest. The weather really played with our club picnic/shoot this year. The picnic chicken was the “Best Ever” but we were unable to get any locally grown sweet corn due to our earlier that usual schedule year. The sky decided to turn viscous as evening ap-proached causing John Valovec’s 40 shot 3” Finale and Mark Mertens cracker wheel to be shot before the wind and rain arrived. The shoot lines were closed down just as the rain arrived and many folks gave up and left before the rain abruptly stopped. Those who remained at the campground were treated to some interesting shells. Some were wonderful others were in need of more lift. The evening was capped off with an enjoy-able campfire time. To help members to communicate we have established some new email accounts. The most important is for submission of newsletter articles which can now be sent to [email protected] this address can also be used to submit advertising copy.
If you have an item that should be addressed by the Board of Directors, you can send an email message to [email protected] the mail will be forwarded to all current board members. If there are safety issues that a member would like to have addressed, please send your concerns to [email protected]
Once again Dale and Mitzi Stoltzman will be providing the main dish for our potluck meal at the July meeting. As usual everyone is encouraged to bring a dish to pass. Strawberries will be running late this year Roger, there should be a good supply for pie making☺! So bring your along your appetite and, something to share, at the July meet-ing/shoot.

The Safety Team’s change to the rules for the “B” line now require everyone to have a fuse at the end of the shell leader that will provide at least a 5 second delay from the time the fuse is lit to the time the shells fires. The type of fuse used for the delay must be approved by safety personal, as long as the fuse reliably provides the re-quired delay time. The length of the quick match attached to the shell must be suffi-cient for the shell to rest in the bottom of the mortar before lighting the shell. Shells constructed or brought to the firing line must adhere to these requirements or they will not be allowed. A few volunteers are needed for announcing on the Family Service Radio channel 7-11 when items are being shot on both the B and C lines. Please let Barb Schneider, our Safety Director, know if you want to help out with announcing. For those of you who camp overnight at the Wildlife Campground, the WPAG special rate is $15 a night for use of electricity; or $10 a night for a basic campsite without the use of electricity. We will be collecting the camping fee and make payment to the campground. At our meetings we have been having excellent participation and volunteer teamwork while setting up and tearing down of our tents and equipment. The continued volun-teer effort during our monthly meetings makes for a more enjoyable time for every-one. Thanks, and Stay Green! Larry
