Eligible customers are those that meet eligibility standards as defined by the FCC and state commission. Residents who live on federally recognized Tribal Lands may also qualify for additional Tribal benefits if they participate in certain federal eligibility programs. The program offers a monthly discount limited to one discount per household and can either be applied to wireline or wireless. If applied to wireline the discount can be applied to either your voice or broadband service. The monthly discount is up to $5.25 per month for voice only service or up to $9.25 per month for broadband service. Windstream’s basic local service rates for residential voice lines range from $16 to $26 per month depending on your service location. Specific rates will be provided upon request. For the broadband Lifeline discount to apply, a customer must subscribe to a Windstream service that meets the minimum standard requirements as defined by the FCC. For the purposes of the Lifeline program a household is defined as any individual or group of individuals who live together at the same address and share income and expenses. Lifeline service is not transferable, and only eligible consumers may enroll in the program. Consumers who willfully make false statements to obtain Lifeline telephone or broadband service can be punished by fine or imprisonment and can be barred from the program. By Jane Carpenter We, Seniors, seem to be enjoying the comfortable weather we’ve been having in late November and early December. Christmas is fast approaching and time to get your Christmas shopping done in order to be ready. We had a few regulars out Thursday for various reasons, but we were blessed to have Elizabeth Neason, Gayla Lind, Fonetta Simmons, Gay McBride, Snuffy Bennett, Doris Lemley, James Lenamond, Alma McCurry, Earl Mask. Wilma Lee, Roger Watson, Elle, and Hank Staniszewski, Wayne Sharp, Ann Brown, Janice Bilbrey, and myself. The menu for Thursday, December 11th will be smothered pork chop/gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetable medley, hot roll, dutch apple pie, tea/milk. Hope you will be able to come to join us. Our Bingo was called by Elizabeth and the winners were Gayla Lind winning two games, I won a game and Wilma Lee won the Blackout game. Congratulations to the winners. Just remember one thing as Christmas approaches - JESUS is the reason we are celebrating this day, December 25th, because it is his birthday. Merry Christmas to all. It not only promises to have some good musicians for the night but also it’s the Christmas Covered Dish Meal night. Bring your favorite dish and dessert and be prepared to hear some good down country music with a blend of bluegrass to go with it. Music starts at 6 p.m. with the John Allred Band of Groesbeck, second band at 7:00 p.m. will be Amanda’s band, featuring Keith Woodley as lead singer & guitar, and musicians, Jack Seale, Banjo; John Seale, mandolin; Chris Shiflett, Upright Bass; Randy Powell, Fiddle; Albert Seale, guitar, Ben Baldwin, Drums; and Karl Shiflett, guitar. Oletha Jamboree this Saturday ornton Chamber of Commerce hosted Santa Santa, Mrs. Clause, and their favorite Elf paid a visit to Downtown Thornton last Saturday afternoon. Children came to visit, write and mail their letters to Santa in the special “North Pole Mail Box”, and have their pictures made with Santa. Every child received a gift, cookies, and a candy cane. The afternoon was shared and enjoyed by both the young and the “young at heart”. Deck the Streets in Thornton The Thornton Chamber of Commerce has been hard at work resurrecting, refurbishing, and hanging Christmas decorations in downtown Thornton and plans to use these vintage decorations as patterns and replicate them before the 2022 Christmas Season are already in the works! For more information contact Kay Alston 210-627- 7268 RPT Chairman Rinaldi to Speak in ornton The Central Texas Food Bank’s President and CEO, Derrick Chubbs, will leave the organization at the end of the month to become President and CEO of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida in Orlando. Catrina Salinas, Chief People Officer, will lead the organization on an interim basis as the Board of Directors conducts a search for a permanent replacement. “The Food Bank Board and staff wish Derrick the very best and thank him for his contributions to the fight against hunger,” said Stephen Portner, Board Chair of the Central Texas Food Bank. “He has helped us lay a strong financial and strategic foundation for future success into place. Today, our Food Bank is supporting more neighbors than ever before, and Derrick’s leadership has helped make that possible. While he leaves us, we are pleased that his expertise will continue to benefit the Feeding America network.” Chubbs assumed leadership of the region’s largest non- profit hunger relief agency in November of 2016 and has been at the helm during a number of extremely challenging events such as hurricane relief, the pandemic and winter storm Uri. At the same time, Chubbs was key in devising a new 5-year strategic plan for the Food Bank. Under his leadership, the Central Texas Food Bank has fed more people, welcomed more new donors, and established more food pantries in the region than at any other time in its history. The Food Bank’s Board has announced no specific timeline for finding Chubbs’ replacement, but are committed to making the best possible selection to lead the organization into its 40th anniversary year and beyond.
