Transforming supply chains to prepare for the futureIndustry 4.0 and the Internet of things (Iot) are transforming supply chains into interconnected networks where big data can be shared and analyzed to enable strategic decision-making. With equipment, and in time services, being allocated a digital identity, the supply chain can track, verify and cross-reference purchases and manage projects more efficiently.

Despite the overall ‘lower for longer’ perception, the upstream industry is starting to look ahead and prepare for the upturn. An understanding of which opportunities can be utilized to exploit supply chains and provide real value for the future, including the latest technologies, is needed. Whilst cost containment, returns and efficiency will remain high priorities, supply chain teams need to accumulate and analyze intelligence to help forecast and inform a sustainable exit strategy.

there are plenty of start-up petrochemical plant projects coming up in 2017 but budgetary discipline will be critical. In addition, the majority of new Gulf Coast petrochemical projects are too advanced to cancels, so companies are treating them as longer term investments. With exports set to increase, downstream operators want to know how this will impact Houston’s transport network.

For midstream companies, their revenue is fairly isolated from oil prices but the situation has impacted the rate of production growth. In addition, they will need to be prepared for the turnaround when activity picks up to meet the increasing capacity required for connecting production with markets.

Agility and flexibility will become core components as the industry moves away from a focus on processes. In addition, it is critical to consider how to retain some of the efficiencies gained in the downturn, whilst anticipating and supporting growth. Consolidation of resources - through mergers and acquisitions, are ongoing and there are likely to be further opportunities in this space. Supply chain networks need higher flexibility and agility to gain the competitive advantage.

Oil and Gas Supply Chain and Procurement 2016 will provide you with an opportunity to benchmark against your peers, share best practices, drive development and progress and network with operators, oilfield services and suppliers across upstream, midstream and downstream silos. As continuous process industries, petrochemical and refining companies have been working towards supply chain improvements for some time and can bring valuable lessons learnt to the discussion. there are also plenty of opportunities in the industry for forward-thinking, technology-driven companies that can deliver operational efficiencies and lower cost solutions.
