Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
Please note a few issues to bring to your attention with this first
bulletin for Holy Family Parish:
1. The formal Decree for our new Holy Family Parish is on pages
13 & 14 in this bulletin. It was also sent as a Flocknote to all those
online, but I wanted all parishioners to have this historical
document. You can cut out the page and keep as a memory of
being the first parishioners of Holy Family Parish.
2. The bulletin front cover has our transitional logo on it with the
old hand with fingers identifying each Church instead of separate
parishes with the new Holy family Parish name on the hand. We will
use this transitional logo for a few weeks and then switch to our new
logo which is available on gear available at our first Holy Family
Parish HOPE Festival.
3. This bulletin contains information and order forms for what you
might be interested in at our Festival this week, Wednesday through
Saturday, July 8-11. See pages 10 & 11.
4. The separate parish sections are now gone. Everything in the
bulletin is now offered to everyone in the new parish. Each
parishioner has 5 church buildings, rectories, schools and
properties in which parish events and meetings are held.
5. The potential exposure of COVID-19 last week concluded in a
negative test result. Therefore there has bee NO exposure of the
virus in our parish at this time. Page 7 shows the latest Press
Release last Sunday from the Diocese. Our Safety Team is
working on an action plan for various possible COVID19 exposures
we might encounter in the coming months and will share that in the
bulletin as soon as it is finalized.
I had the nicest surprise recently. A few weeks ago, a parishioner
couple dropped off a gift. It was a small statue of the Holy Family,
Joseph standing behind the Blessed Mother holding her son Jesus.
The note attached said they were thankful that I was appointed the
new pastor of their new Holy Family Parish. They said they hoped I
appreciated the statue as much as they appreciated getting it. It sits
on a shelf in my office now. But in addition to gratitude, I started to
think that it would be nice to get a similar small statue for each of
our five churches, to connect us all to the new patrons of our Holy
Family Parish. I was sharing this good news and idea to some of
our money counters who were in the office to count that day. One of
those parish couples contacted me later and said they wanted to
donate to get those Holy Family statues too for each church. So
they’ve all been donated too! I then went online and picked five
separate statues of the Holy Family specifically for each church,
ordered them and had them shipped. They are shown on this page
and will be in each church on display this weekend as well. Later
that night, the first couple who gave me the first statue was one of
our early bird raffle winners, drawn out of thousands of already
received Grand Raffle tickets!
I know parts of the last two years of transition have not been
easy. And perhaps not all of us feel like we belong to one parish
family yet, but it’s so heartwarming to hear of different folks enjoying
the new identity that we have become. It was beautiful to see so
many pastoral council name suggestions and even more
encouraging to me when parishioners from one former parish
suggested folks from a different former parish. We’ve been in
pandemic mode for a few months, but before some of that started,
at some parish meetings, I would see folks from different parish
churches socializing with one another in the parking lot or at
different events. These are all the seeds of becoming more fully one
parish family.
St. Paul says to the Romans in this weekend’s second reading,
“If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in
you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your
mortal bodies also, through his Spirit that dwells in you.” (Romans
8:11) Parish life is not about all the things we do, or the buildings
and things in them. Parish life is about relationships. First and
foremost, it’s about our relationship with God, and how we can be
uplifted in sharing that faith and relationship through one another.
It’s about helping one another to become better disciples of Jesus,
and what we do in helping others to become disciples of Jesus too.
My new responsibility, with my new title of Pastor, is the “care of
souls.” While that’s every priest’s responsibility, it’s explicitly the
pastor of a parish’s responsibility to share with the other priests
assigned. Sometimes overlooked is that the care of souls in a
parish, is not just the care of registered Catholic persons, but all
souls living in the parish. Father Dalton and Father DeWitt have
both been fine pastors of different parishes. Now together, we have
the care of souls, along with three deacons who serve too. Our goal
is to do our best in attending to the spiritual needs and providing the
sacraments to everyone in our parish. I hope one day when our
lives in this world are all ended, to see that all the souls of this
parish are now saints in heaven. This accomplishment would not be
because of any great work of mine or the other clergy, but because
we helped each other to understand the Spirit of the one who raised
Jesus from the dead dwells in each of us.
In Christ’s love,
Father Kevin

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THE 14TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
READING I ZEC 9:9-10
Thus says the LORD: Rejoice heartily, O daughter Zion, shout
for joy, O daughter Jerusalem! See, your king shall come to you;
a just savior is he, meek, and riding on an ass, on a colt, the foal
of an ass. He shall banish the chariot from Ephraim, and the
horse from Jerusalem; the warrior’s bow shall be banished, and
he shall proclaim peace to the nations. His dominion shall be
from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM PS 145:1-2, 8-9, 10-11, 13-14
R. I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God.
I will extol you, O my God and King,
and I will bless your name forever and ever.
Every day will I bless you,
and I will praise your name forever and ever.
R. I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God.
The LORD is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and of great kindness.
The LORD is good to all
and compassionate toward all his works.
R. I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God.
The LORD is faithful in all his words
and holy in all his works.
The LORD lifts up all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.
R. I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God.
READING 2 ROM 8:9, 11-13
Brothers and sisters:
You are not in the flesh; on the contrary, you are in the spirit,
if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. Whoever does not have
the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. If the Spirit of the one
who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, the one who
raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies
also, through his Spirit that dwells in you. Consequently, brothers
and sisters, we are not debtors to the flesh, to live according to
the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if
by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
R. Alleluia, alleluia. CF. MT 11:25
Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth;
you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
GOSPEL MT 11:25-30
At that time Jesus exclaimed:
“I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for
although you have hidden these things from the wise and the
learned you have revealed them to little ones. Yes, Father, such
has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to
me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and
no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom
the Son wishes to reveal him.”
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give
you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am
meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”
Historia de la adoración eucarística:
Primera parte

OPV CATHOLIC
In reviewing some of the five former parish histories for our final
parish feast days, I found some good material. I suspect there is
more out there. I would like for a small team of Holy Family
Parishioners to help form a History Committee. The goal would be
to collect any photos, newspaper articles and other memorabilia
and keep a record of these things as a history for our future
parishioners. Gary Rogers is a parishioner and also a member of
the Oakmont Historical Society and has offered to help. He and I
are looking for others who might have some experience with
historical records or simply want to help with the documentation of
materials. If you know of someone or are interested, please call or
email the parish office. We’d like to start collecting
some of the former parish and school memorabilia
as we begin to form a new parish together. At
some point, we might put together a booklet and
small library of our past.
Thanks for your consideration,

Principal’s Letter
Dear Parish Family,
I would like to thank you for your prayers and patience in this time of change.
Not only do we have to change our way of living, we are in the process of a
new beginning for our school families. As you may be aware, we have
merged two of our schools in the Parish family. We will begin the new school
year as Holy Family Catholic School. Students and families from St. John the
Baptist and St. Joseph schools will become one in a learning environment
that will teach and strengthen students in knowledge, faith, and love. The
students are excited and looking forward to this new change. This merger will
fill the classrooms allowing the school to become vibrant and even more
financially stable than we have in the past. Our classrooms will be filled with
faculty members that are well trained and certified in the areas of what grade
or subject that will be taught. I am asking everyone to continue praying for us
as we move forward with the merger of our schools. As your Principal, I will
be responsible for making this change a positive experience for everyone
involved.
If you’ve considered Catholic schooling before and might want to, especially
now, during this crisis, please contact me at [email protected] or call
412-793-4580. With God’s help and guidance, we will get through this
together and provide the excellent Catholic education we are capable of
providing. Be Good, Behave, Be Safe, God Bless,
Mr. Beau Quattrone, Principal - Holy Family Catholic School

Our Lady of Joy Parish is a Catholic community of faith dedicated to Mary, the cause of our
joy. We are centered in Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the
Eucharist. We are a welcoming family, striving to see Christ in all and responding to the needs
of the members of our parish and community. Called to act in faith, hope and love we seek to
become a visible presence of Christ in the world. Our Lady of Joy, pray for us!
SJV Parish Mission Statement
St. Joseph Parish is a faith community, rich in history and strong in its Catholic tradition since
1866. Through the grace of the Eucharist and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we com-
mit ourselves to building up the Body of Christ through a strong spiritual life, education in the
faith and service to our parish and community.
St. Joseph, pray for us!
SJAN Parish Mission Statement
St. Januarius is a Roman Catholic community of faith focused on the life and
teachings of Jesus Christ. We are grateful to those who have built up St.
Januarius to be a welcoming, active, and spiritual parish. With the Eucharist and
through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we strive to use the gifts and talents
given to us by the Father to support the lives of parishioners at all age levels and
stages of life. We also pledge to live our lives so that through our words and
actions all may feel the presence of Jesus Christ in the world today.
St. Januarius, pray for us!
SJB Parish Mission Statement
Saint John the Baptist Parish is located in Plum Borough,
Pennsylvania and is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese
of Pittsburgh. As a faith community, we strive to imitate
our patron Saint John the Baptist who led others to Christ.
We are committed to keeping our faith alive and growing
through prayer, sacraments, faith formation and service.
Through evangelization and stewardship we encourage
full and active participation of all members. We hope to
reflect the life and love of Christ by strengthening the faith
of our parishioners while reaching out to all God’s people.
Saint John the Baptist, pray for us!
STI Parish Mission Statement
The Faith Community of St. Irenaeus strives for knowledge, service, and faith
through our patron’s guidance and the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. With love,
worship, and solidarity, we are building God’s Kingdom in our families and

and His Church for the greater glory of God our Father.
