Dear Parents,
We wish to notify you that the Graduation ceremony for SS3 2015/16 Students will
hold on the 2nd of July 2016 in the School Hall. We would appreciate any special
donations you may wish to make towards the success of this auspicious occasion.
We also wish to inform you that there is space for you to advertise your company or
product in our graduation book at a very reasonable price.

SPEECH AND PRIZE GIVING (NURSERY 2, PRIMARY 6, JSS 3AND OTHERS)
The date for this programme is Saturday, the 16thof July, 2016. We wish to notify you
that our academic year for 2015/2016 is coming to an end. As you know that the Prize
Giving day will hold by rewarding the children in the
various academic achievements and also graduate those moving to the next level of the
education ladder. (Nursery 2, Primary 6 and JSS 3).
We want to solicit for your generous donations both in cash and kind to make this
occasion a memorable day for our children.
We are also giving you the opportunity to advertise your company or products in our
graduations at a reasonable price.

The Great Debaters!
The Drama, Debate and Press (D2Press) of the school has put in place an
inter-class debate slated for Monday, 6th June, 2016. The details are stated
below.
Date: Monday 6th June, 2016
Class: Jss1, Jss2 and SS1
Venue: The school hall (Olumawu School)
Topic: The 'Mess' in our society: who is to blame?
Each class is expected to present two debaters who must have prepared to cast the
blame on the government, the school or the family. A team of judges comprising two
teachers of English language, the secondary school librarian and a student who has been
representing the school in debates will not adjudge the students but help to reconcile all
the factors and proffer solutions.
Parents are highly welcomed to grace the debate.

Security at Olumawu
· Parents are not allowed into classes during lessons
· Parents are advised to drop food for their wards at the admin office
· Arrangement is on ground for onward delivery of items dropped in the admin by
parents/guardians to the children’s classes
· Please label the items you wish to drop accordingly.
· The school gate will be locked to students by 8am each day. Parents, please take
note
· Unauthorized persons are not allowed into the school premises for whatever
reason(s)
· Parents are advised to make use of the school parking lots within the premises
· Students are not allowed to bring in mobile phones to the school
· Parents coming earlier before the closing time should please wait at the reception

Admissions for 2016/2017 are still on going
The next batch of Olumawu Entrance Examination comes up on the 18TH June, 2016 at
school premises at 10,00am
Application forms are available in the school or can be downloaded from our
website www.olumawu.org for all classes.
Payments for Term 3 school fees is long overdue, parents who has written undertakings
to pay their children / wards school fees at the end of May 2016, should please fulfill
their promises.
Parents of SS3 Students, the 2014/2015 set are hereby reminded that the WASSE
original certificates of their children/wards are ready for collection from the admission
office of the school.

The economic situation of the country as related to the hike in fuel by the Federal
Government has compelled us to inform you of our intention to increase our transport
to school system commencing September, 2016.

News from Preschool
Welcome back from the break. Academic work began in top gear after the break
as we gradually approach the end of the third term.
The second Continuous Assessment Test (CAT) for the Pre-school will be
conducted next week.

News from Key Stage One
It has been lovely to have the children back in school this week and to hear all about
what they have had to do during their half term break. Thankfully a good percentage of
them have completed and submitted their assignments; these are being marked and
recorded by the teachers at the moment. We appreciate parents who made Children’s
Day this year memorable for the children.
Attendance
It is important that your child attends school each day. Please ensure that your child is in
class for 08:00am, as the school gates will be locked daily at 08:00. If your child isn’t
going to be in school, please call the school before 09:00am.
After School Clubs
This term’s after school club timetable has been running smoothly, the children have
enjoyed participating in a wide range of activities with their friends. Pupils in all classes
are urged to take part in the different clubs we have in the school.
Hair Extensions:
Please be reminded that pupils are not allowed to wear hair extensions of any kind to
school. This is against the school rule and parents are to ensure that pupils obey the
rules of the school always.

Key Stage Two
You are all welcome back to the second half of term 3. Hope you had a wonderful break.
All school activities have commenced in earnest.
Punctuality
We noticed that some pupils still come to school late. The school activities start by 7.30
a.m. Please ensure that you bring your children/wards early enough to school in order
to participate in the morning activities. Morning assembly and home rooming are parts
of the school activities. Any child who comes late from next week will be locked outside
the school gate by 8.00 a.m.
Second Continuous Assessment Test (2NDCAT)
Our second continuous assessment test (2ndCAT) comes up next week Monday 6th June
through Friday 10th June, 2016. Please ensure that you revise with your children/wards.
Mid-Term Holiday Assignment
The deadline for submission of the mid-term holiday assignment is next week
Wednesday 8th June, 2016. Parents are urged to encourage their children/wards to do
the assignment. This will form part of their continuous assessment.
Career Day
Our Career Day for term 3 comes up next week Friday 10th June, 2016. This is one the
pastoral themes for term 3. Each child has to choose a future career and every child is
expected to be in his/her career costume. Parents are urged to provide career costumes
for their children/wards. Please ensure that the children dress smartly and decently in
their career costume.

Erc examination for Js 3
ERC examinations for JS 3 are ongoing and we thank God for good progress made so far.
We have kept faith with our support classes during the examinations and we sincerely
believe our students will make us very proud at the end of the day.
The examinations will end on Friday 10th June, 2016. We encourage parents to continue
to show active interest in how the students are faring during the examinations. This will
spur the students to perform even much better.
Saturday lessons
Saturday classes will hold this week on Saturday 4th June, 2016. We strongly advise
parents to encourage their children/wards to avail themselves of these very important
classes as preparatory ground for improved academic performance at the end of the
term and beyond.
Homework diaries
We wish to remind all parents that each and every child in our school has been given a
homework diary. The diary should enable parents to keep track of homework and the
child’s homework ethic through comments made by the homeroom teacher.
Parents are hereby encouraged to go through their children’s diaries each day and to
feel free to make comments appropriately.

News from Secondary
The entire school has just returned from a mid-term break, which also comprised of the
Children’s Day celebration as well as the Democracy Day celebration. Active teaching
and learning have since commenced.
Five students of Olumawu School community performed superlatively in the
just concluded Nigeria Young Broadcast Award/ Competition sponsored by
Liciamedia. The event took place at the Silverbird Entertainment Centre, FCT
on the 27th of May, 2016. Twenty-two (22) schools were in attendance. The
awards won included:
i. Best Young Script Writer Award by Azeez Nusra (SS 2 Blue)
Ii. Best Participating School Award.

WEEKLY THEME:
We commenced the theme “Career and Occupation” Wednesday June 1st, 2016. This is
aimed at preparing the pupils/students ahead of their future career and igniting their
passion for the future.
CAREER DAY: pupils/students will be expected to dress in their career outfit on Friday
10th June, 2016. This is to celebrate their future career choices and make them look
forward to achieving their dreams.
CAREER CONFERENCE: This will come up on Monday 13th June, 2016. The program is
designed to empower/ enlighten students on their various career paths and guide them
to achieve their dreams.
HOUSE POINTS:

SCHOOL UNIFORM
Pupils must be in complete uniform always – only brown shoes, white socks for the
school uniform and white canvas/ white socks for the P.E uniform. We urge Parents to
please ensure their children adhere strictly to this dress code to avoid seizing and other
punishments.
House meetings holds every Wednesday, please ensure your child comes in to
school wearing the correct sport wear.
NOTE: pupils/students should be appropriately dressed and have their correct footwear
on for all sport activities.
