FROM YOUR PASTOR’S HEARTIt’s hard to believe but the Fourth of July is here! This is always an exciting season in Alderson as friends and family come home for the celebration. May we have a blessed and safe celebration as we remember those who gave and continue to give to keep our country free. In addition to the Fourth, we have other exciting and important events happening in July.VBS – This year our Vacation Bible School theme is SonTreasure Island. During the week of July 20 our youngest worshipers will gather to explore God’s love is giving, kind, caring, forgiving, and forever. Make sure all the treasure hunters you know join us for an exciting week. Look for details of our plans in this newsletter.

Work Teams – In July the Alderson Ministerial Association will host three work teams. I will personally coordinate the efforts of First Christian Church from Coventry, CT during the week of July 12. They will do repair and maintenance work on several homes in Alderson. Please pray for the safe travel, safe work, and God’s blessing on all the teams that will be with us this summer.

The Story – Starting July 27, we will begin a journey through the Bible as it tells “. . . the grandest, most compelling story of all time: the story of a true God who loves his children, who established for them a

way of salvation and provided a route to eternity.” You can read more about this amazing journey through The Story on the facing page.

The next Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast will be Saturday, August 2nd at

8am at Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church.

There is treasure to be found here. More precious than gold, more lasting than diamonds, it is the greatest treasure of all—God’s love!

LEADERS: We have leaders in place for our Bible stories, music, crafts, recreation, and snacks. However, we can always use help from interested, caring youth and adults. On Sunday, June 1 after worship we had a fun and delicious “Fill Up and Fuel Up” luncheon. Due to the cold winter our fuel oil and gas usage was higher than normal. We enjoyed a wonderful pot-luck luncheon and silent auction for a car care gift basket and a beautiful painting of Old Greenbrier done by our own Betty Fleshman.

We received over $2,000 that day and in the week afterwards. We appreciate the support of those who lead us in making this luncheon a reality. We are glad to report that our fuel bills have been paid and we will enter the coming winter season with full tanks ready to go. Thanks for your support!

Beginning the last Sunday of July we will start a journey through the story of God’s love for us as revealed in the Bible. We will begin in Genesis and work our way to Revelation during this 31 week journey. In that time we

will read portions of Scripture and examine many of the important characters and Bible stories that transmit pictures of God’s continuing love for us.

As we take our journey through God’s story, we will use a special resource to facilitate the journey. “The Story is an abridged, chronological Bible that reads like a novel. There are no verse references, and Scripture segments are seamlessly woven together with transition text into a single grand narrative. For those intimidated or overwhelmed by the unabridged Bible, The Story helps people understand God’s Word more fully and engage with it more easily.” The Story is a powerful way to engage in Bible reading like never before. As The Story brings the Bible to life, the broad scope of God’s message will penetrate our hearts. People of all ages will be swept up in the story of God’s love and God’s plan for their lives. Copies of The Story will be available at the church for purchase at a cost of just $8 each. Versions of The Story will also be available for our younger readers. Each week we will read a chapter from The Story. We will discuss it together on Wednesday night during our weekly Bible study. Each Sunday,

Pastor Bill will preach from a selected text within the Scripture reading for that week. You can learn more about The Story by visiting www.thestory.com or by speaking with Pastor Bill. Together, as we explore the story of God’s love, may we be inspired both to receive His love and to share it with others to His glory.
