Hello All,

Ready….*BIG SIGH OF RELIEF* we made it through camp and fair!!! Did anyone else eat three Mac & Cheese dogs during fair or was that just me? I wanted to take a moment and say Thank You to every Advisor, member, and parent for being so helpful, patient, and willing to help me make it through my first summer. I had such a great experience this year at both camp and fair! I really enjoyed watching each child show their animals and work so hard to finish their Still projects! I am so impressed with the dedication of each and every child in our County’s 4-H Program. 4-H Camp Piedmont had 113 in attendance counting campers, counselors and adult staff. We definitely had a great time “Finding Bigfoot”. We had a scavenger hunt resulting in Bigfoot getting everyone soaked, played “Capture the Bigfoot” and Dr. Bob Horton challenged everyone to make a “Bigfoot hammock using nothing but newspaper, duct tape and string. We all know that duct tape can handle anything…even Bigfoot! I am looking forward to next year for so many reasons. I truly feel with how great this year went - next year will be even better. I can see that every- one in this community strives to make their “Best Better”. I am so excited to be a part of a program that is constantly growing and changing.

The 4-H Committee and I are proud of all of our members. We have already started to plan for next year. For example, it was brought to our attention that not all books were complete at both Livestock and Still project judging. The committee and I are currently developing plans and will then put into play some positive modifications to our judging process. We also would like everyone to pay close attention to the upcoming calendar as there are some changes that have been made. We are all looking forward to a new 4-H season and positive start to our year!

Thank you to: The Volunteers who took time to help with Livestock Skillathon and

Still Project Judging The Cooks who provided lunch to those volunteer s on those long

Saturdays The Advisors who offer guidance and support to all the 4-H members The Teen Leaders who help anywhere and everywhere they are

needed The parents who make sure their kids are on track and have all they

need to have a great 4-H experience And the Community Members and Local Businesses for supporting

our Program

The Teen Leaders organizational meeting for the 2016-2017 4-H Year will be held on Monday, October 3rd at 4:30pm. Teen Leaders is a 4-H Club for teens ages 13-18 as of January 1st. It is a group that focuses on leadership training, team building, community service and event planning. Teen Leaders provide the help and support for the many county-wide activities that are held throughout the year. If you are someone who likes to help younger children, prepare for events, work on community service projects or provide support from “behind the scenes”, this is the club for you! Carroll County Teen Leaders meet on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at 4:30pm at the Extension office. We understand that most teens have a very busy schedule, but your goal should be to attend at least one of the meetings every month.

Organizational Meeting for Teen Leaders!

Honor Member Applications Due

Honor Forms are Due at the Extension Office by the end of the Day on Monday, August 29th. What is an Honor Member? The status of Honor Member is awarded to those 4-H members who meet certain criteria every year. It is a cumulative process which means that each year you have to add additional points in order to meet the goal set for each year. You will be surprised at how many points you have obtained just by being an active 4-H member. Points are earned by doing things like: completing your projects, going to your 4-H meetings, participating in Community Service and going to 4-H Camp! Why should you become an Honor Member? Becoming an Honor Member will help you as you move forward in your 4-H Career. Having the status of Honor member for a minimum of 5 years is required to be on Outstanding Court. It is taken into account when you apply for scholarships, fair royalty and can even be put on a resume’. Applications are available from: The Extension office Your Advisor Online at www.carroll.osu.edu Click on 4-H Youth Development Then 4-H Forms and Documents Click on Carroll County Honor Member Form

If you are applying for your 5th year or greater – you will need to fill out a 4-H County Award form in addition to the Honor Application. (If you have filled out the County Award form already this year for Outstanding Court, Scholarships Leadership Camp you do not need to fill one out again. Just let us know at the office.)

4-H Benefit Auction to be Held at Atwood Yacht Club

Honors such as Outstanding Court and Best of 4-H Night are funded through this benefit. The 4-H Committee is always looking for fresh ideas for games and activities as well as local businesses who would like to donate to this worthwhile cause. Please call the office if you would like to assist!

Make your plans now to attend the 2016 Carroll County 4-H Advisory Annual Benefit Auction. The Benefit will be held Saturday, November 12th at the Atwood Yacht Club. There will be a wonderful dinner that includes a gorgeous view of the lake, and of course our always competitive but friendly Silent & Live Auctions. Tickets are available pre-sale only for $30 per person. This is the event that provides the Carroll County 4-H Program with the funds needed to offer assistance to those in need for activities like 4-H Camp, Leadership Camp and 4-H Conference. The college scholarships are also a result of this night of fundraising.
