Dear 4-H Family:
What does Fall mean to you? For me, it has always meant the end of the growing season, the start of college football and the continuation of the 4-H circle. The Fall of 1985 marked my first job as a 4-H agent in Pennsylvania and so it goes as one 4-H year ends another one begins.
4-H committees and staff are reflecting on this past year’s programming and making plans for 2019’s 4-H Year. You too can get involved as a 4-H volunteer (teen or adult) on one of the committees. Check out when committees are meeting in the months to come and become an active advocate.
This particular Fall means more change for OSU Extension, Clark County. Anytime a team member leaves, the work and expertise filled by that person must be picked up by others, dropped or restructured. Due to budgetary constraints, it was necessary to reduce staffing in the Clark County Extension Office to meet county allocated funding.
As a result, Patti Holbrook’s position as our 4-H Office Assistant for the past 13 years was eliminated. Her last day with OSU Extension was September 17. We will greatly miss Patti’s dedication and will recognize her for that dedication at the 4-H Banquet. In the weeks and months to come, we will be making changes to address how the roles and functions performed by her will be handled. As we make those decisions, we solicit your support, ideas and talents to help fill the void. If you are available to volunteer time in the Extension Office, please give us a call at 937-521-3860 or e-mail [email protected].
We encourage you to not take for granted the OSU Extension programs you have grown to enjoy and rely on. Share your Extension story with others. How have you and your family been touched by the questions answered, programs offered and experiences provided by OSU Extension and its’ 4-H program? Clark County is not only the Birthplace of 4-H, but is home to a vibrant 4-H program with dedicated, enthusiastic families, volunteers and community supporters.
Help us continue to “Make the BEST Better” with your knowledge, skills, ideas and commitment.

Great Read for
4-H Members and
Volunteers!
The Centers for
Disease Control
partnered with USDA and
4-H to create “The Junior
Disease Detectives:
Operation Outbreak”. Read
this graphic novel to learn
about the detective work
done by public and animal health experts when
infectious diseases like a variant flu happen.
The novel follows a group of teenage 4-H
members who participate in a State Fair and
later attend CDC’s Disease Detective Camp in
Atlanta. One of the boys becomes sick following
the fair, the rest of the group use their newly
acquired disease detective knowledge to help a
team of experts solve the mystery of how their
friend became ill.
