The 2010 Biodiversity Target

To “achieve by 2010 a significant reduction of the current rate of biodiversity loss at the global, regional and national level as a contribution to poverty alleviation and to the benefit of all life on earth”

Adopted by over 190 of the world's governments at the meeting of the Convention on Biological Diversity in 2001, and endorsed by the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002

• Database completely rebuilt to allow more detailed analyses of regions, biomes, taxa and management

• Need 4-5 times more data, targeting regions, taxa and biomes with low representation

• Investigate possibility of incorporating plants and invertebrates

• Searchable database on the internet• Remote data input from around the world • Broaden institutional collaboration
