V i k r a m a n , D i r e c t o r ( H R ) a n d Shri S.Gurusamynathan, CGM (HR) & Head of Public Relations Department, NLCIL received the awards from Shri Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Hon’ble Home Minister, Government of Telangana State on 13.12.2019 at the three day (13th – 15th December 2019) 41st All India Public Relations Conference – 2019 at Hyderabad with the Theme “ CSR: A Brand Building Gateway for Corporates “.
Our company has won the twin Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) National Awards 2019. “Best Public Sector Organization implementing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)” and “Best Public Sector Undertaking implementing Right to Information (RTI) Organization “in recognition of the outstanding contributions in the field of RTI and CSR. The PRSI National Awards 2019 instituted by the PRSI, a National Association of Public Relations and Communication Professionals established in the year 1958 with 19 chapters and 4000 members are the highest recognition of Public Relations and Corporate Communications Excellence.
Speaking on “Responsive Mining & Green Power for Sustainable future and Happier Society” Shri Vikraman said that with the use of conveyor belt system, the adoption of first of its kind, the continuous mining technology impact will be minimal on the environment while the ecological balance is maintained .
Shri Jaikumar Srinivasan, assumed office as the Director (Finance) of our company on 05.02.2020 at Neyveli. A Commerce Graduate from University of Nagpur and a Associate Member of Cost & Management Accountants of India. Prior to joining our company, he was the Director (Finance) of M/s. Maharashtra State Electricity and Distribution Company Ltd., (MSEDCL) and MAHAGENCO, a Public Sector Undertaking of the Government of Maharashtra. Shri Srinivasan was also the part-time Director in Mahuguj Colliery Company Ltd., UCM Coal Company Ltd., and the Subsidiaries of MAHAGENCO.
He underwent training on “Best Practices in Power Sector” at SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan, Italy and ESCP Business School in Torino & amp. Paris

ã In the Financial front, the total income for the Company upto the 9 months ended 31st Dec’ 2019 was Rs.6558.63 Crore as against
Rs.5792.47 Crore in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a growth of 13.23 %.
Certainly, future holds good only for those who desire to grow. Growth is essential not only for profits but also for sustainable
development. We are planning ahead for the long run and we have already laid strong foundation for growth plan in varied Energy Mix
Portfolio with more focus on Renewable Energy sector and new avenues for growth.
During the year 2019 we have had many achievements.
New Year 2020 has ushered in fresh hopes, aspirations and
expectations of everyone for a better tomorrow. First of all,
my choicest wishes to you and your family members for a
‘Happy and Prosperous New Year 2020’.
ã Unit-I of NNTPP attained full load of 500MW on 29.09.2019, completed Trial Operation on 20.12.2019 and attained COD on
28.12.2019.
Our three pronged strategy of enhancing revenue, reduction in cost and bringing excellence and efficiency in all the spheres of our
business is bringing the desired results and we are hopeful to achieve better results in the current financial year.
ã For the current FY as on 31.12.2019 we have achieved 170.14 LT of Lignite production and 15801.60 MU of Power generation,
with a growth of 6.09 % in Lignite production and 4.73% in Power generation.
ã Mine development activities of 20MTPA Talabira Coal Mine Project at Odisha is progressing well and Mine Operation activities
commenced on 11th Dec 2019 to start Coal excavation soon.
ã The Profit after Tax was Rs.1021.37 Crore as against Rs.976.84 Crore in the corresponding period of the previous year, showing
a growth of 4.56%.
Dear Colleagues,
Every New Year, besides the celebration, it must be an
occasion to evaluate ourselves of our achievements and
shortcomings for the year that has passed. While we look at
our achievements with justifiable pride, many issues needed
our attention for introspection and resolution.
ã With the commissioning of the 709MW TN Solar Project, NLCIL has crossed 1GW mark in Solar Power Generation capacity and
NLCIL has at present 1.404 GW RE capacity.
I expect that the momentum shall continue to bring many more achievements to the company in days to come.
I am sure that you are well aware of our Company’s Corporate Plan to become 21011 MW power generation by 2025 with a share of
4251MW from Renewable Energy.
Recently, Ministry of Coal has organized a Chintan Shivir programme on future prospects of the Coal sector at Gujarat under the
chairmanship of Union Minister of Coal and Mines in which Brainstorming sessions on topics like strategy for achieving 1 Billion
Tonnes Coal production, Coal/Lignite to Methanol, etc have been included.
Modern Petro-Chemical Industry is aiming for development of more Clean Coal Technologies in which Coal/Lignite based Methanol
economy is an attractive Liquid Transportation Fuel as well as an essential intermediate Chemical feedstock that can reduce the
dependability on Hydrocarbon, sustainable Clean Coal Technology with Power and Methanol Production is found to be a viable option
for future. So, we have already taken initiatives towards this direction.
While we plan aggressively to pursue for implementation of those projects more efficiently, it is our pursuit of excellence,
determination and commitment only will translate it into reality. I firmly believe that it is the collective effort that produces the result
which will determine the destiny towards which our company is to be steered.
I am sure that with full dedication to work and working as a coherent team, we will meet all the challenges and take the company to
greater heights.

Subsequently, with the Clearance from the Southern Regional Load Dispatch Centre (SRLDC) Unit-I Commercial Operation was declared from 00:00 Hours on 28.12.2019. CMD and the Directors congratulated the Team NNTPS for the successful trial operation and Commercial Operation Declaration.
The Unit-I (500 MW) of The Neyveli New Thermal Power Station (NNTPS) (2 Units x 500 MW) of 1000 MW was successfully tested on 19.12.2019 for completion of 72 Hours Full Load Trial Operation in the presence of Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD, Directors Shri R.Vikraman, Shri Shaji John and Senior Officials.
UNIT-I (500 MW) OF NNTPS (2 UNITS x 500 MW) SUCCESSFULLY COMMISSIONED
NNTPS, at a cost of Rs.7000 crore is a replacement for the existing 50 years old Thermal Power Station-I (6 Units x 50 MW and 2 Units x 100 MW). The work began 4 years ago for the first of its kind in lignite fired power boiler of these 2 Units of 500 MW each in the country (So far 250 MW was the highest). The 10 Lakh units of power per hour from this station will be drawn by the states of Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra, Telangana and the Union Territory of Pondicherry. With this NLCIL has crossed its installed power generating capacity to 6000 MW per hour including NNTP.

Mine-I and TPS-II won Occupational Health & Safety Award 2019 under platinum and Gold Category. Mine-II and the Central Environment Cell (Thermal Power Sector) won platinum each for Afforestation activities and Best Environment Management respectively.
The Apex India Foundation is a Professional Non-profit organization in New Delhi honoring Government and Private organizations with National Awards for their achievements.
National HR Excellence Award in Gold Category for the year 2019 for its outstanding achievements in Human Resource Management. Shri S. Shanmugasundaram, CGM/L&DC received the Award on behalf of the Company from the Directors of Apex India Foundation in the same function.
Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) and the Minister of State for Defence presented the awards on 24.09.2019 at the Apex Excellence Award function in Goa during the two day (24-25.09.2019) national seminar on “Industrial Safety, Health & Environment Management”. Shri R. Mohan, CGM/CSR, Edn., SDC & Culture received the CSR Award on behalf of the company.
The Water Resource Augmentation Initiatives of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Cell of NLCIL during the year 2019 won the Apex CSR National Excellence Award under the Platinum Category.

and English) regarding the fundamental duties for
employees and students, Organizing Talk show through
Government Visual Media and Street Plays have been
planned for each month till 26.11.2020.
“Constitution Day” is celebrated to commemorate the
adoption of the Constitution of India. The Constituent
Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India on
26.11.1949 and it came into effect on 26.01.1950.
The Year Long Awareness Programme at NLCIL is planned
from 26.11.2019 to 26.11.2020 to increase cit izen
awareness of the Constitution of India. The “Constitution
Day” Celebrations began on 26.11.2019 at NLCIL in
Neyveli with Senior Officials, Executives and Employees of
the company joining the CMD and the Directors in reading
out the ‘Preamble’ to the Constitution.
A Special Lecture Programme titled “Micro Finance & Development of Rural Women”, exclusively for Women Employees of our company was organized on 27.11.2019 at
Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD, Directors Shri R.Vikraman and
Shri Shaji John felicitated Smt. Sudha Prasad, Teacher,
St. Joesph of Cluny Matriculation Higher Secondary School,
Neyveli on 28.11.2019 for completing Fullbright Teaching
Excellence and Achievement Program at USA. It was an
Exchange Program sponsored by the US Department of State
from 11.09.2019 to 30.10.2019 with participation of
116 teachers from 60 countries. Among 3 teachers from India
who attended, Smt. Prasad was the lone teacher from
Tamilnadu State.

P.Chinnapillai, the woman who formed a Self-Help group “KALANJIYAM” (A micro banking system) addressed the women on how the rural women can showcase the will power for sustainable development.

Vigilance Awareness Week 2019 was observed at our
company from 28.10.2019 to 02.11.2019. The Theme for this

Smt Thenmozhi in her address said that “Corruption is
pollution that leads to devastation of the society”. CMD
in his address said that “integrity lies in our thought,
speech and action.” A Integrity wall was inaugurated at main
bazaar of the township and integrity pledge was administered.
VALEDICTION
As a part of the Knowledge Seminar Series Shri P.Daniel,
Additional Secretary, Central Vigilance Commission,
Government of India spoke on theme and said that
“Integrity is not only the responsibility of employees
and organizations’ but the public as well” and appealed
that everyone act on the pledge they have taken on
integrity. Similarly Workshop on safe computing habits
and meetings with the Vendors and Contractors were
also organized. Essay, Elocution, Drawing, Short Film
competitions were held for students of college and
schools.
The Valedictory of the week was organized at the
same venue on 02.11.2019. Smt. R.Radhika, IPS,
DIG, Deputy Director, Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-
Corruption, Chennai was the Chief Guest and in her address
said that “Parents are to be the role models for Children.”

NLCIL is taking up regional exploration of lignite blocks in
Pandiyur through drilling 5000 meters (48000m)and detailed
exploration through drilling 30000 meters (345000m) of Block
A (Sub-blocks A,B,C and D) in Rajasinga Mangalam in the
district of Ramanathapuram in phase-I. The exploration
activity may enhance lignite reserves substantially.

Rajarajan, Registrar, IISc signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Bangalore in the presence of Prof. B. Gurumoorthy, Chief Executive, Society for Innovation and Development (SID), IISc. The MoU was exchanged on 18.09.2019 at Neyveli by Dr. Manoharan and Dr. Anurag Srivastava, Chief Operat ing Officer, SID, I ISc in the presence of Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD, Directors Shri R. NLCIL SETTING UP COLLABORATIVE INNOVATION INCUBATION CENTRES
NLCIL through its Centre for Applied Research and Development (CARD) have collaborated with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc),
Bangalore and Anna University (AU), Chennai for setting up collaborative innovation centres at the respective places for promoting
young innovators. The purpose is to focus on innovation work on identified theme areas such as Lignite Conversion to Clean Fuel,
Emission Reduction and Carbon Capture, Value Added Product Development from Lignite and Ash. Lignite Quality Upgradation,
Waste Heat Utilization, Storage Batteries, Internet of Things Solutions, Water Purifications, Modern Agriculture Techniques to
develop the core business activities of NLCIL.

Based on the request from Shri M.R.K.Panneerselvam,
Hon’ble MLA, TNLA, Kurinchipadi Constituency duly
recommended by the Cuddalore District Administration, NLCIL
has taken up the work of Desilting and Restoration of
Kothavachery Tank spread over 166 acres Catering to 354
Hectares of agriculture land to benefit 2500 farmers in
Kurinchipadi Taluk. The sleeves are being repaired and will be
replaced if required.

11.12.2019. The Auditorium was built under
o u r c o m p a n y ’ s c o r p o r a t e s o c i a l
responsibility and named after the great
poet Mahakavi Bharathiar whose Birthday
falls on the same day.
The Director in his address said that the
teachers of the school should utilize the
auditorium for organizing competitions for
the students to enhance their skills with the
academics. Senior Officials of the company
were present on the occasion.
Shri Vikraman, also laid the foundation
stone on the same day in Block-24 Jawahar Higher Secondary
School (CBSE) for the construction of 58 new class rooms in the
building with three floors.
NLCIL has taken up Community Development Works like
Desilting, Deepening, Increasing the Capacity of Water Holding
and Strengthening of the bunds under its Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) initiative in the water bodies of various
villages under Neyveli and Other Legislative Constituencies.
Significance of this particular work is drilling bore wells at the
center of these water bodies and fill them during dry days
through pumps powered by solar energy.
SOLAR POWERED SUBMERSIBLE PUMPS PROVIDED
These works have been taken up in 19 Lakes and Ponds of the
Legislative Constituencies of Neyveli, Virudhachalam,
Bhuvanagiri and Kurinchipadi. Under Neyveli Constituency
5 ponds in the villages of Perperiyan Kuppam, Marungur,
Sorathur, Keezha Kuppam and Mel Mam Pattu and 5 water

Shri R.Vikraman, Director (HR), NLCIL formally laid the
bricks for a New Arch Gate at Neyveli during the Bhoomi
Pooja performed on 01.11.2019 at the site in the presence
of senior officials of the company.
The 60 years old Arch Gate had to be dismantled on
24.10.2019 to enable the central authorities’ lay four lane
roads in the National Highway 45C from Vikravandi to
Thanjavur. The New Arch Gate of 34 Meters Width and
11 Meters Height will be 35 Meters away from the National
Highway to be erected within a period of 5 months.

The Director, in his address said that “Colleges should
motivate students participate in extra-curricular activities,
along with academics to give students a wholesome
education”. He had a word of appreciation for students of

Children’s Day Celebration - 2019 was organized at Lignite
Hall, Neyveli on 14.11.2019. Shri R.Vikraman, Director
(HR), NLCIL and the Patron, NLCIL Schools in his Chief
Guest address said that “Parents should be role model for
children and while appreciating their initiatives, they should
never compare them with other children”.
Shri N.Sadish Babu, ED (HR) presided over the function
and joined the Director in giving away prizes to the winners
of various competitions held in connection with the
occasion. The ED in his address to the students said that
“Perseverance, Hard work, Self confidence and Patience
can take you to the goal”. The Director and Senior officials
visited the gallery of the Drawings by students and
Handicrafts by special children. Around 500 Students,
Teachers, Parents and Employees participated.
CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATED
Shri R.Vikraman, Director (HR) NLCIL distributed prizes to the winners and in
his address said that it is a privilege for NLCIL to host the events paving way
for these children to join the main stream. Smt. Rose Nirmala, Chief Education
Officer, Cuddalore inaugurated the event with the participation of around
320 differently abled children in Athletics, Long Jump, Soft Ball throw and
Wheel Chair race.
NLCIL hosted Sports Events for the Special Children on behalf of the Cuddalore
District Education Department, Government of Tamilnadu on the National Day of
the Physically and Intellectually Challenged at Bharathi Stadium, Neyveli on
12.12.2019.

NATIONAL DAY OF INTELLECTUALLY CHALLENGED 2019 OBSERVED
CMD appreciated the teachers, vocational trainers and the
therapist of the SOS. 72 special children are being trained in the
Sneha Opportunity School. Started in the year 1987 around
349 children learnt the vocational stream in this institution and
many have joined the main stream. The message of
Smt. Kanchan Rakesh Kumar, President, SOS was read out.
The President said that with the support of NLCIL, the special
children are participating in celebrations like the Republic Day,
Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanthi. She informed that the
outlets like the Poushika, Amrut and the Arts & Crafts are
gearing up to match with similar out lets of our township.
A Pledge about the rights of the intellectually challenged was
administered. The Cultural Programme by the Intellectually

NLCIL TPS-I-EXPN WON THE
TAMILNADU STATE SAFETY AWARD
Neyveli Thermal Power Station I-Expansion (TPS-I Exp.) has won ‘The Tamilnadu State Safety Award for the year 2014’ under the Heavy Industries Category by Government of Tamilnadu (GOTN) in recognition of the reduction in the percentage of accidents.
The GOTN is awarding shields annually under various categories to the Industrial Undertakings covered by the Factories Act in recognition of their better Safety Performance and creating Safety and Health awareness among the work force.
Shri O.S.Gnanasekaran, CGM/HR/TPS, Shri K.Selvaguru, GM/O&M and the Factory Manager of TPS-I Exp. and Shri A.Perumalsamy, GM/HR/TPS-I Exp. received the award on behalf of the company.
Dr. Nilofer Kafeel, Hon’ble Minister for Labour, Government of Tamilnadu presented the award in the form of a Shield on 20.09.2019 in a function organized under the aegis of the Directorate of Industrial Safety & Health (GOTN) at Chennai.
JAL PRAHARI AWARD FOR NLCIL
In recognition of the above initiatives, the “Jal Prahari” (Water Guard) Award has been given to our company. The award instituted by sarkaritel.com, a website on Government News & Information was presented by Shri Gajendra Singh Shekawat, Hon’ble Union Minister, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Water Resources, Rivers Development and Ganga Rejuvenation on 18.12.2019 at the ‘Jal Prahari Samman 2019’ function at New Delhi in the presence of Shri Upendra Prasad Singh, IAS, Secretary of the Ministry. Shri D.K. Mittal, DGM/PR & Liaison, NLCIL, New Delhi received the award on behalf of the company.
NLCIL in its consistent efforts for excel lence in development and maintenance of water bodies had in the recent past sunk bore wells, desilted and deepened 16 lakes in Cuddalore District.Further the Kurichi Lake in Coimbatore was desilted in a massive manner. The provision of Solar Pump has been provided along with borewells in such lakes for ensuring water availability even during peak summer.

BEST INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM
Performances of October-December 2019 were reviewed and
targets set for the months of January-March 2020. All outstation
project teams joined through Video Conferencing.
The 71st meeting for implementation of the official language was
held on 23.12.2019 at Neyveli. Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD Chaired
the meeting. Directors Shri R.Vikraman, Shri N.N.M.Rao and
Shri Shaji John were present at the meeting. Executive Directors
and Senior Officials participated.
