Motivations

Our motivations might include:- Sense of calling- Giving something back to the Church- Christian youth workers had a big impact on my life- Guilt-trip: Because no-one else would do it- The macho stories / war wounds- Seeing young people develop and grow- Job – paid / contracted to do it-When we get space to stand back, reflect and see what God is doing-Wanting to provide somewhere in church for our children and their friends-Our history / background / story might motivate us to work with a certain group of young people

Self Reflection on personal development

God calling…In pairs, think of Biblical examples of people being called

MosesNoahGideonSamuelDavidDisciplesPaul

2 Sam 16: 7b: The Lord does not look at the things

people look at. People look at the outward

appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

How did they know what they

were called to do? Were they all

called in the same way?

Page 8: October 8th 2014

Self Reflection on personal development

Are you called?•Are you called to youth ministry?•Should you do anything you’re not called to?

•You may have a number of callings.•You may be acting out of obedience.

•Are our responsibilities our callings?•Are you investing as much in your calling to your family and friends as you are to your youth work?

Psalm 139Lord, you have examined me    and know all about me.2 You know when I sit down and when I get up.    You know my thoughts before I think them.3 You know where I go and where I lie down.    You know everything I do.

Some questions to ask yourself…

•Who has God made me to be?•How has God led me to youth

ministry?•What can I offer young people?•Which of my values match the

values of youth ministry?

Journey… calling… vocation

Jeremiah 18This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: 2 “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” 3 So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. 4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.5 Then the word of the Lord came to me. 6 He said,“Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter,so are you in my hand, Israel.

You may wish to explore, either on your own or with your mentor:

What skills, experience, values, knowledge have you picked up and how?

How have you developed? Track your growth.

How could you continue to grow and develop both as a youth worker and as a individual beyond Aurora?
