Why Does It Matter Who Is On the Supreme Court? The Supreme Court has the final judicial say on whether a law is in conformity with the U. S. Constitution. This means the Supreme Court has the great power to overrule all lower courts. When the Supreme Court makes an unjust decision, the harmful consequences can be felt by millions of people for many years. For example: 1. Dred Scott vs. Sandford (1857): The court ruled that “persons of African descent” could not become citizens of the United States, and that it was unconstitutional for Congress to free slaves in federal territories. But instead of settling the slavery controversy, this decision helped bring about the Civil War. The decision was overturned by the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments. 2. Plessy vs. Ferguson (1896): The court ruled that the Constitution permitted racially segregated public facilities, including schools, as long as those facilities were “equal in quality.” This decision led to an increase in racial segregation for at least 58 years, when the “precedent” was in effect overruled by later decisions. 3. Roe vs. Wade (1973): The court ruled that existing legal protections for prenatal babies (all 50 states had some restrictions on abortion prior to this decision) violated the Constitution. The author of this decision claimed that the “right to abortion” was somehow found in the “right to privacy.” The Constitution never defines or even mentions any “right to privacy,” but a previous Supreme Court Justice had creatively claimed that right was found in the “penumbras” and “emanations” of

the Constitution! Roe vs. Wade has resulted in the violent and unjust deliberate killing of millions of prenatal girls and boys in our country. 4. Obergefell v. Hodges (2015): The court overturned centuries of tradition by deciding that the Constitution guarantees the right to marry to same-sex couples. This ruling, which dramatically re-defined the meaning of marriage and family, required all 50 states to permit same-sex “marriages.” This decision in effect deprives many children from knowing the love of both their father and their mother. The decisions of the U. S. Supreme Court can have very serious and harmful

consequences, especially for the most vulnerable among us. So it is very important who is on the Supreme Court. Let us pray and do what we can so that a truly just person will replace the recently deceased Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court.

    Adoration of the Eucharist

Join the community of St. Patrick for an hour of Exposition and Adoration in

English every third Wednesday of the month. This Holy Hour of Eucharistic

devotion will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the church. Confessions

will be available during this Holy Hour. Next Adoration date is set for October 7

in Spanish. Don’t miss this awesome and beautiful opportunity to pray with

your Community. We are very excited and blessed to be able to have Adoration in the Church.

We must follow all rules and regulations the same as we do during mass times. Everyone must wear a

mask and seat six feet apart unless you live in the same household. We also

need 4-6 volunteers to stay after adoration to sanitize the church pews. “Let Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament

speak to your hearts. It is He who is the true answer of life that you seek.”

    Pope St. John Paul II

    A Adoración Eucarística
