MAMBO’S MOMENTS Hello St. Brendan,

Congratulations for the successful Auction dinner and all other events. St. Joseph, Namalaka is happy for

you. We are fine here. A number of activities have happened here and are still to happen. Our youth

participated in the deanery quiz last week and were among successful ones. They came back with some

presents. Again they also participated in the Diocesan Youth Rally. Apart from attending the Mass, they

also participated in a number of social activities. As we are in the month of the Holy Rosary, the

Parishioners are encouraged to pray the rosary together in their SCC (small Christian community) hence we

are visiting them and pray together with them. You are in our prayers. On selected days we have

recollections in the out churches on the theme "Strengthening Our Faith" based on Mk 9:24b. We hope it

will bear fruits. About the feeding program everything is ok on our side except for the office of the District

Education Manager to give us a ‘go ahead’. But the chiefs around Lungwena were informed, the school

committee and the mother body of those to be preparing the porridge. We want to make it official and have

a special launch where the bishop, District Education Manager, chiefs, school committee members would

be present. This is to make the project successful. I am pushing for his feedback. We intended to begin at the latest this week,

and we are yet to see if this is real. We thank God for you, dear friends, and continue praying for you. I wish you all the best in your

endeavors and may God bless you and all St. Brendan Parishioners. St. Joseph, Namalaka Parishioners love you all.

Old Testament

KING AHAZIAH

AND THE PROPHET ELIJAH

2 Kings chapter 1

King Ahaziah was king of Israel.

The northern kingdom was called

Israel and the southern kingdom

was called Judah. Ahaziah made a

bad decision, calling on the god of

the nearby city of Ekron, instead of

calling on the one true God who

made heaven and earth. In the old

religions many people believed

that each city or area had its own

little god. So when Ahaziah was

injured he called on Baalzebub.

Elijah heard about it and went in

person to King Ahaziah. “Because

you sent messengers to [ask]

Baalzebub, the god of Ekron, you

will not leave the bed you lie on,

instead you will die there.” And

that is exactly what happened.

Ahaziah’s brother Joram became

the next king of Israel.

New Testament

THE WIDOW’S MITE

Mark 12: 41-44

Do you like to watch people? Jesus

loved all people and liked to sit and

watch them. During Holy Week he

was sitting in the Temple where he

could see the great money chests of

the Temple treasury. People came

from far and near to the Temple.

They were impressed by this great

building that King Herod the Great

had built. Many people put heavy

coins into the chest. They made a

great ringing sound. Then a poor

widow walked up to the treasury

chest. She put in two copper coins.

Jesus said, “Notice that this poor

widow gave more than all the others

who donated to the treasury. They

gave from their extra wealth, but she

gave from her poor savings, all that

she had to live on.” What makes us

want to give money to God? We give

because it is a way to say Thank You

for God’s many blessings. By giving

from your own allowance, you will

experience the joy the widow felt.

KNIGHTS CORNER This Month's Challenge ~ October 2018

[The blind man] threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus

said to him in reply, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man

replied to him, “Master, I want to see.” Jesus told him, “Go your way; your

faith has saved you.” (Gospel for Oct. 28, Mk. 10:50-52) Most of us can

probably recall requesting a meeting with someone influential, and then

reaching a point in that meeting where he or she looked us in the eyes and

asked, “So, what can I do for you?” We most likely prepared for this

moment, and we clearly stated our need or wish. Brothers, can we imagine

the Son of God speaking our own name and asking, “What do you want me

to do for you?” It seems extraordinary. Even unbelievable! And yet, this is

exactly what Jesus invites us to do every day in prayer, reading and reflect-

ing on Scripture, speaking to him about what is in our hearts. That’s a

meeting you and I would not want to miss.

Challenge by Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William E. Lori: When having a

discussion with people this month (especially your family members), give

them your undivided attention and do not look at your cell phones during

the conversations. Secondly, I challenge you to honestly attempt to answer

Jesus’ question to you, “What do you want me to do for you?”

• LAST WEEK ~ Knights are looking at updating the announce board and the pictures of Active Military and Active Reserve outside the Father McGill Chapel. Pictures can be placed in the basket near the board.

God bless you during this special time of carrying your baby.

We pray for a healthy baby & a safe delivery for your baby.

It's for everyone--old and young--to get a better perspective of what we are to do with our lives whether just stepping out into the real world for the first time or retired and thinking, "now what?" Youth Minister will be in the Narthex after the 5:00 pm mass

on Saturday November 3rd and after the 10:00 am mass on

Sunday November 4th to meet with anybody and to answer

any questions you may have about Youth Group and

Confirmation. Check the Parish website for the registration

forms and email Margaret ([email protected])

to verify how many teens you are registering for Confirmation

and Youth Group this year and/or if you are interested in

volunteering to help during meetings!
