On September 30th the Sunnyvale Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) hosted three SkillPath Workshops: Advanced MS Excel, Advanced MS Project, and MS PowerPoint. The sessions were led by SkillPath Instructor Marsallay Spicer who shared many tips and tricks for the MS Office 2010 applications. For example, the class reviewed data valida-tion techniques as well as learned about conditional format-ting during the MS Excel Class. In the MS PowerPoint class, we learned tips such as the Rule of Six - No more than 6 bullets on a slide and six words per bullet. After attending the SkillPath Workshops Marine Systems employees will be able to utilize their new skills to help make their use of the MS Office applications more efficient and enjoyable!

Sunnyvale Interns By Sarah Fedler and Jason Lin

This past year the Sunnyvale campus welcomed 14 interns to provide an opportunity for students to gain work ex-perience, build skills, and make valuable contributions to Northrop Grumman. In addition, the interns received career advice from NG leaders and had opportunities to network with each other. One of the highlights for the in-terns was participating in a webcast hosted by Wes Bush, Northrop Grumman Chairman, CEO and President.

In August the Connect1NG and the Executive Leadership Team hosted the summer interns out brief luncheon where the interns had an opportunity to share what they learned and accomplished during their time at Marine Systems. This was a great opportunity for the interns to show the ELT and their managers what great experiences the summer in-ternships provide, in addition to getting the opportunity to present to management!

Why Performance Management? Dear Marine Systems Employees:

As we enter the year-end performance cycle, it is a good time to reflect on why Northrop Grumman adopted our performance management system in 2013, and why it is so important that we do it well. Wes Bush consistently emphasizes the need to achieve and sustain top performance across the company, and that to do so, “it is critical that all of our employees have the ability to bring their very best to work every day.”

In 2014, Sunnyvale leaders recognized that performance management and alignment to leadership characteristics was critical to culture change. They committed to establishing and communicating clear expectations and accountabilities for individuals and teams; giving honest, direct feedback about performance in a way that engages employees to perform at their best; identifying what employees need to be successful and discussing how to accomplish this; discussing career aspirations and goals and supporting employees with development plans; and assisting in identifying new chal-lenges and learning opportunities.

I encourage you to leverage all that performance management offers to facilitate your learning, development, growth and top performance!

Karen Campbell

Vice President, Marine Systems

In the coming weeks, there will be skill building opportunities in preparation for and participating

in performance appraisal and feedback sessions. Please take

time to attend one of the interac-tive labs so that you are ready to

collaborate with your manager on how you can achieve success

personally, for the company and for our customers.

On October 8th Marine Systems employees packed over 300 bags of groceries for senior citizens that reside in Sunnyvale. As part of the activity, they assembled over 30 grocery carts for families with transportation obstacles for receiving their monthly food assistance.

Over the last 9 years, WINS and the other ERGs have organized commu-nity service outreach activities for Marine Systems employees to pack groceries for seniors, pack food for children in low income families dur-ing the summer months, donate sup-plies for back to school backpacks, and helped clients during the Christmas Center select food and gifts for the holiday season.

Sunnyvale Community Services pro-vides emergency assistance to families and individuals in Sunnyvale, and for Veterans and their families in Santa Clara County who are facing hunger and temporary financial distress. There are two outreach activities to support Sunnyvale Community Services in the next few months. On November 19,

the 2015 ERG Bowling Event will feature the agency to provide information on their programs and their volunteer opportunities. On Friday, December 4, we will need volunteers to support the Christmas Center to help families select gifts for their homes. Let’s keep up the great work helping the community!
