    Volunteer Recognition

    The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards - A nationwide program that honors young people in grades 5-12 whovolunteer in their communities. Youth who have engaged in a volunteer activity that occurred during the 12 monthsprior to the date of application are eligible to apply. The application deadline is November 5, 2013.     Volunteer-based organizations have to keep track of a lot of data - for example, contact information, schedules, timesheets and job sites - and the right software can help, freeing time for engaging volunteers.     Catholic Charities USA created an award certificate template for agencies to honor volunteers. This award certificateexpresses gratitude from CCUSA CEO/President Fr. Larry Snyder on behalf of the entire network. To access theaward certificate template, email Matthew Price.

    Resource Library

    The resources from the old Catholic Charities USA website have been moved over to a third party website - Scribd.Browse forms, policies and training materials. This morning, attendees from the VMN will be browsing the websiteidentifying deficits in the library. A call for resources will be announced at the end of the month.

    Networking

    Coffee Break - The VMN Steering Committee has revamped the Coffee Break sessions. Originally developed toaugment the Webinars, the Coffee Breaks will now be a focus of a certain topic. Members from the VMN steeringcommittee will share experiences with certain topics and callers can ask questions and provide answers for others onthe call. Registerfor the Innovative Recruitment Techniques - Friday, November 8th at 11am ET. Bring your ideas toshare and be ready for great tips in return!

    LinkedIn group - As of today we have 19 folks who have joined the group! Log-in to your LinkedIn account, click thislink and click join in the upper right corner. We will begin creating sub-groups in November once everyone has

    Demographic breakdown - the Agency Volunteer Profile survey. This survey will be used to identify sub-groups ofmembers that share similar roles and responsibilities. Survey respondents will identify how they want to benetworked. Complete the survey by the end of October and be eligible for a $50 gift card. 17 folks have completed thesurvey. If you fill it out today you have a >5% chance of winning $50...that's better than the lottery!

    Newsletter changes - Carol Spiker ("Spike"), a member of the steering committee, will be the new point person for thenewsletter.
