As summer comes to a close so does the current 4-H program year. We are extremely grateful for all the support and dedication of our 4-H volunteers who are the backbone of our county program giving of their time and talent while creating priceless memories and lessons of life for 4-H members & their families. I remind you to carefully read the upcoming events & activities in the 4-H Clover Express. Fall is the time of year to begin the re-enrollment process and the 2016-17 enrollment form will be included with the monthly newsletter during the next few months. Any member who does not re-enroll in school or their individual project clubs will need to complete the attached form and return it to the Hardin County Extension Office by December in order to remain on the current mailing list.

A en on ALL Hardin County 4‐H teens (grades 8‐11)! Applica ons for the next class of Teen Leadership Academy are now available! The 4‐H Teen Leadership Academy is a program designed for 4‐H teens to learn and understand more about leadership opportuni es in the area in which they live, both outside and inside of 4‐H. TLA will consist of five 4‐H teens from each of the following coun es: Breckinridge, Grayson, LaRue, Hardin and Meade. Applicants will be accepted through an applica on screening process. Applica ons can be a ained from the Extension Office or online at www.hardin4h.org. The deadline to apply is September 15th. The 2016 KY 4‐H Issues Conference will be held November 17‐20 at the Lake Cumberland 4‐H Leadership Center and we invite all current high school aged youth to a end! The Kentucky 4‐H Issues Conference began in 1989 to give teen 4‐H members the opportunity to learn the process of iden fying and addressing local issues. 4‐H members select an issue and research the issue before coming to the conference. While at the conference, 4‐H’ers are given the opportunity to share their ideas and collaborate with other 4‐H’ers from around the state. Adult facilitators work with 4‐H’ers leading them in the process of preparing a simulated presenta on to a community board. County teams are given the opportunity to submit a mini‐grant proposal following the conference addressing an iden fied local issue. Cost to a end is $175 but County 4‐H Council sponsorship is available. Deadline to register will be October 10th. The date for the 2015‐16 4‐H Recogni on Banquet is Friday, November 18th at the Extension
Office. If you have par cipated in ANY 4‐H event from Sept 1, 2015 thru August 31, 2016, you will need to
fill out an Awards Record Sheet which can be picked up at the Extension Office or e‐mailed upon request.

The Na onal 4‐H Council and Tractor Supply Company will be having their Fall Paper Clover Campaign—October 5‐16, 2016 which coincides with Na onal 4‐H Week. Hardin County 4‐H received $178.20 “THANKS” to contribu ons made during the 2016 Spring Campaign. 4‐H clubs are encouraged to contact their local TSC store to arrange an ac vity showcasing their summer ac vi es and achievements during the fall clover campaign. 2016 LEADER CERTIFICATION WORKSHOP DATES:
It has been recently announced that 4‐H leader cer fica on training will be held on (1) day star ng promptly at 8:00 a.m. on the dates shown below and ending about 4:30 p.m. It is highly recommended that volunteers obtain lodging for the Friday night before as par cipants will be required to be promptly seated by the start me. Dinner on Friday night and breakfast on Saturday morning WILL NOT BE PROVIDED as part of the registra on fee, however it will include lunch on Saturday. E’TOWNS LIONS CLUB ‐ ANNUAL CHICKEN BAR‐B‐QUE A special “THANK YOU” to Robin & Mallory Garcia, Kurtlyn Creamer and Bailey Thomas who were
able to volunteer by helping the E‐town Lions Club with their annual chicken dinner on Saturday, August
13th. For many years the Lions Club has donated money toward our 4‐H summer camp program which
helps with supplies and camp scholarships therefore it was only appropriate that we return their generosity
by assis ng with their major fundraising ac vity.

Congratula ons to everyone that showed at the KY State Fair as for some it was a 1st me
experience! The club will resume mee ng at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 12th at the Extension
Office. New members are welcome to a end as 2016‐17 enrollments will be completed along with a lesson
on the standard of perfec on for rabbits and how to make a “buddy burner”. At the October 10th mee ng
members will hold club officer elec ons, learn how to place rabbits in a class AND do a Halloween cra .
Members will meet 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 12th for officer elec ons, drill team sign ups and updated hippology informa on. The club plans to have a “Barn Dance” at the Hardin County Fairgrounds on October 15th from 5:00 ‐ 10:00 p.m., details will be forthcoming. They will also be having a “Bake Sale” on October 2nd from 12 noon – 4:00 p.m. at the E‐town Wal‐Mart. Bobbins Sewing Club is for youth ages 9‐18 who are interested in sewing. Beginners and experienced sewers welcome! Hot Stoves Cooking Club is a monthly 4‐H club that focuses on basic cooking and food prepara on skills. The club is for youth ages 9 and up. We will be elec ng officers for Hot Stoves again this year so if you are interested in stepping up to be a leader, come prepared run for an office on the first mee ng night which will be September 19th. Hot Stoves will be held once a month on Mondays (September‐May) from 4:30‐6:30 p.m. and is limited to the first 15 par cipants who register. Registra on fees are $10.00 and must be paid upon registra on. To register, call Joni at the Extension Office – 270‐765‐4121.
CLOVER BUDS CLUB
Calling all youth ages 5‐8 (or K‐3rd grade) to join Hardin County 4‐H Clover Buds!!! Just like the 4‐H program for older youth, the purpose of the 4‐H Clover Buds program is to help young children learn life skills to become competent, caring and contribu ng ci zens. The primary goal of the Clover Buds program is to promote children's healthy development ‐ mentally, physically, socially and emo onally. The Clover Buds Club will meet once monthly on the 3rd Saturday from 10:00 a.m.‐12:00 p.m. at the Hardin County Extension Office. Parents or guardians are required to par cipate with their child to encourage healthy rela onships with caring adults. The Clover Buds first club mee ng will be held Saturday, September 17th from 10:00 a.m.‐ 12:00 noon at the Extension Office. Please call ahead to reserve your spot (270) 765‐4121 (ask for Joni).

The Home School Chefs will start the new year off with a new leader! Holly Powell, Hardin County Extension Office FCS Assistant, will be taking over as the new club leader. Holly has scheduled your club mee ngs for October 28th, November 17th, December 14th, January 19th, February 15th, March 17th and April 14th from 11:00 a.m. ‐ 1:00 p.m. at the Hardin County Extension Office.
The registra on fee is also going to be done differently as well, it will be $10 (due at me of registra on) and that covers everything for the year. Class is limited to 15 so get registered today!!

STATE FAIR
Congratula ons to all our Hardin County 4‐Her’s who par cipated and/or exhibited during the Kentucky State Fair! Hardin County was well represented! You brought home an abundance of blue ribbons for everything from livestock, cra s, photography, country hams, baked goods, rabbits, hay, dogs, pain ngs, tractor driving and more! If you have not yet picked up your State Fair Cloverville entries at the Hardin County Extension Office, please make arrangements to do so as soon as possible.

WELCOME BACK as we are about to begin a new 4‐H program year. 4th grade students at Rineyville,
Creekside, Howevalley, Lakewood, St. James and Vine Grove will be attending the Progressive Ag Safety
Day program on September 22nd & 23rd at the Hardin County Fairgrounds. Teachers will have
additional information regarding this activity.
Attention School Club Families: Thanks to cooperation with teachers and principals at the various
elementary schools we are able to bring 4‐H into your child’s classroom. Each classroom elect’s officers
and selects a name for their club. This is a leadership learning opportunity for them which they take very
seriously. In addition they will receive the monthly newsletter which tells them about other activities held
throughout the year they are eligible to participate in. We will be working with teachers to set dates for
their first club meeting in October.
