Term 4, Week 2
It is with both excitement and sadness that I inform you
that Polly Smith has accepted an ongoing position at
Camperdown College for 2020.
It is with great excitement that Polly moves home to be
closer to her family to continue her teaching career. She
will miss all of you and your wonderful children but looks
forward to what this new adventure will have in store.
Polly has been an outstanding member of our teaching
staff and will be sadly missed by the school community.
Over the weekend, Port Fairy hosted the Spring Music
Festival. Some of our students had the opportunity to
form part of a choir that performed with an orchestra on
the Saturday Gala Performance. Although I was unable
to watch this, I have heard rave reviews about the con-
cert. I would like to congratulate Lynda and the students
involved, for their performance. The choral singing on
Friday afternoon was a delight; I loved listening to the vo-
cal teacher from the Victorian College of the Arts train
the students.
Well done to the students who represented our school at
the Regional Athletics on Friday and the State Cycling
Championships.
On Wednesday, the Yr 5/6 students and staff began their
adventure in Melbourne. Leah Evans is attending the
camp and her replacement in the front office is Jill Gib-
son. A big thank you to all those staff who are coming on
camp and especially those who have organised the trip.
Congratulations to Mr Hoey and Mr Twycross for complet-
ing the Aspirant Leaders course. This course is designed
to build the leadership capacity in aspiring leaders.
During this year, they have had the opportunity to shad-
ow a principal, work on a project and learn more about
leadership skills.
Please note these awards will be presented at tomorrow’s assembly,
beginning at 2:55pm

It has been so pleasing to see your effort and focus continue to progress
throughout the year. Great stuff, Connor
We have put a roster out for Term Four at the school office. We need at least two
helpers each Friday but The more the merrier!
We ask that parents that are volunteering to sign in at the school office and if
they have a working with children card to present it.
It is set up in the Rise Room.
Friday 18th October Jayne Lynch Andrew Hartwich
Foundation 1/2’s : Last Friday we had the privilege of attending a performance of “The magic
Piano” as part of the Spring Music Festival. The performance was fabulous
and, as an audience, our children were both attentive and respectful. We
were able to create some interesting recounts about the performance.
Swimming began in earnest yesterday and today and, at last check, no
lost property! We think daylight savings have knocked the children (and
teachers) around a bit but we feel like the children are getting back on
track.
Grade 3/4’s :
Week 2 in 3/4 world we have been investigating Tessellations in Numeracy,
working on our Persuasive Writing and Figurative Language. This week
students have been busy bees in the kitchen cooking up a storm. Students
enjoyed an Asian feast including Fried Rice, Dumplings and Pineapple
Curry. We are looking forward to our exciting adventure to Dunkeld Camp
next week.
Grade 5/6’s :
We are all prepared for camp and really excited about our day groups
and roommates! Our knowledge of Melbourne’s inner CBD is now so much
deeper due to our Writing and Maths sessions from Term 3. We have a
better grasp of distances, directions and locations. This year we have a
new attraction: The Eureka Tower, standing 285m above the cityscape.
Hopefully the night sky will be clear on Thursday to enhance the
magnificent view. What an experience it will be!
Congratulations to our Regional Athletics Competitors from last Friday. The
long trip to Ballarat was very successful, thank you to parents and supporters
for making the commitment to taking our athletes. Toby Watkinson finished
8th out of 16 (5:37:60) in the 1500m and ran 2 seconds faster than his Divi-
sional qualifying time. Chloe Adams finished 7th out of 15 and ran a great
time of 6:36. Jade King finished 9th out of 11 and threw the shot put 5.99m.
Georgia Hallam finished 4th out of 15 in the hurdles and ran 17:74. Oscar
Hill finished 6th out of 12 in the 800m (2:37) and ran 12 seconds faster than
his Divisional qualifying time! Well done to everyone. Congratulation Adam
Lee who came 2nd in the school road cycling championships in Ballarat on
Friday.
Next Thursday 3 teams of Yr 5/6 students will compete in the Schools T-20
cricket competition in Warrnambool. Information and consent forms are on
Xuno. Please return these as soon as possible. Only those year 5/6’s that
have been selected will be on the Xuno notification. This is a really fun day
of fast paced, modified, round robin cricket, spectators are most welcome.
The games are played on several close by Warrnambool ovals, around the
Reid and Mack ovals. Good Luck to all our teams.
Please remember to make sure your child has their hat and a drink bottle for
PE. The weather is warming up and we are utilising the bottom oval more.
It isn’t possible for students to leave the oval during class and return to the
bubble taps in the main school to get a drink and remain supervised.

Choir Triumph At PFSMF
Wow! We have had so many positive comments about the children’s performance. People have been amazed that
they all stood or sat for so long with so much concentration. They all really stepped up to give a truly remarkable
performance.
Again, many thanks to the parents and carers who made it possible for children to come to workshops during the
holidays and for making sure they arrived promptly. Also to the St Pats choir and Mrs Antonia Balmer and also Jess
and members of the Dhungala Choir.
The children all had a fantastic insight into preparation of writing the score and lyrics, last minute changes, seeing
all those wonderful instruments and musicians in the orchestra, the adult chorus, working with quirky choral direc-
tor Dermot Tutty, clever composer Stefan Cassomenos and outstanding conductor Richard Mills. It makes us part
of the great musical community, right up there with all the stars! Read what the children had to say on the next
page.
It was amazing!!! I loved it the choir was amazing. I got to sing with so many amazing musicians and
an outstanding conductor. Dermot was very help0ful and creative. Stefan was probably the best pianist
I have ever heard. Altogether I had a great time.
KITTY
It was really nice, I loved it, and it made me cry. It was about the first people in Australia.
GRACIE
It was fun to be on stage and the lollies were delightful.
KYEISHA
It was exciting to be on stage, performing with an orchestra. It was relieving when we finished without
making a mistake.
SARAH
Very, very embarrassing. Amazing and so much fun!
STEPHAN
It was exciting when we went on stage because I very nervous and I didn’t know what to do. But when
it got to the part when we had to sing, because everybody else knew the words, I just sang what they
sang. I found it very easy. I loved listening to the music and noise they made. I’m so glad we got to
go. It was amazing so thank you to everyone who helped organise it.
LEXI
It was fun and nerve-wracking. I want to do it again.
GWEN
It was exciting because we haven’t performed in front a big group in ages. I really enjoyed it.
CLAIRE
I was nervous and I loved the lollies.
ELLA-MAY
Very, very embarrassing and fun. Boring colour clothing.
NINA
It was really exciting to sing with different people. I had a lot of fun working with Dermot and Stefan.
It was super that Stefan used my whole poem.
“Stars brightly shining, Darkness surrounding,
Stars brightly shining, Meteors colliding,
Cells forming life beginning”
CHARLOTTE
The clapping was really long. I liked it!
DYLAN
It was nerve-wracking and a bit scary for me. The song was amazing.

Term 4 - 2019 :
Warm up this winter with a $6 freshly prepared meal from our café
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday). Each meal has a snack (baked
goods and fruit) and a main meal. We are excited to bring you the
winter menu that has been a selection of our best sellers. Michelle and Nicola have been
working hard in the café to keep our kids warm and full of fresh and wholesome foods
prepared each day. The café is a part of the school kitchen garden program and fits in
perfect with our 5 - star sustainability ethos with food being local and freshly prepared.
Keeping our food miles low, we shop locally at IGA, Sheehan’s butchers and Village
Bakery. We would like to acknowledge the very kind and very generous donations from
Shaw River Buffalo Cheese for the fabulous cheese. This brings our program alive and is
a wonderful contribution to making our café menu deliciously local.

according to diet preference. Please check the food offered especially if you
are putting in a term order, as we cannot accommodate all diet needs on all
