LAST MONTH IN REVIEW

Tailgate Season!

Matt Chisholm & the Athletics Committee have successfully hosted a number of tailgate

events over the beginning of the Football Season. Rain or shine,

Matt & the athletics crew are out flipping burgers and ensuring a

fun and enjoyable time for LEAD scholars. Next time you

see Matt or one of his committee members, make sure to say

thanks for all their hard work and dedication!

LEAD Events, Impact Events, Service Hours, oh my!! Meet John, a first year LEAD student who is not at all intimidated by the LEAD Scholars

event requirements— in fact, he is the first student to complete all of his event requirements for the fall 2016 semester!

Since day one, Stafford has been a very involved LEAD Scholar, participating in a wide array of committees (Homecoming, Promotions, Aspiring Leaders, to name a few), and assisting in events such as the SIA

conference.

Beyond LEAD Scholars, John is also involved in band at UCF, showcasing his passion for music. John is no stranger to band life, as he

participated in band in high school, where he was named Percussion Captain! He amazes everyone with his ability to play the Xylophone, Marimba, Vibraphone, Timpani, Piano, Drums, Saxophone and even

Guitar. He also amazes with his compassion, positive attitude, drive and determination!

FAMILY WEEKEND BRUNCH

SCHOLARS GOT SKILLS

On the bright, sunny Saturday morning of September 17, 2016, LEAD families and students arrived for a delicious

brunch organized by LEAD Activities Director Raquel Arthuzo and her committee! Parents, siblings, extended family and LEAD friends came together to join in on the Family Weekend festivities, and celebrate their Knight's successes in college thus far (the fact that we are all alive

after the first month of college is worth celebrating!) Seeing all of the smiling Scholars with their fabulous family

members was sweeter than the magnificent assortment of muffins. A fun assortment of activities were offered, such as giant Jenga, UCF trivia, and Family Feud. Goodies such as

LEAD T-shirts and water bottles were given out, and a professional photographer took pictures of the families to

capture all of the magic. Families had the option to tour the LEAD Lounge, or even to be escorted to Memory Mall for the

LEAD Tailgate! Thank you to everyone who attended the event, and for all those who volunteered to help ensure its

success! We have a hunch that even more scholars will want to go to next year's brunch.

Introducing… LEAD Scholars’ First Talent Show! On 9/19, LEAD students had the opportunity to see their peers show off

their amazing hidden (and not so hidden) talents! The audience experienced a wonderful night with many different acts, such as an impressive freestyle soccer show by Bruno, a

Peer Mentor comedy/dance skit, the ballad of “Feeling Good”preformed by Anna, and the duet of Christopher and Calie, who mesmerized the audience with a rendition from The Little Mermaid. Many in the audience were awed and

amazed. Freshman Amy Freiberg exclaimed, “I did not know that LEAD Scholars had so many talented students!” Not only

did the audience enjoy the show, but the performers were greeted with a welcoming environment that cheered them on.

“It was great to be on stage singing before a crowd, and everyone was very friendly” claimed Christopher Hedley, who

performed ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ with Calie Wills. This talent show featured an unexpected segment where attendees got the opportunity to share their hidden talents. Skills such as the ability to tie a shoe in less than 2 seconds, the licking of an elbow, exotic impersonations were shared! Overall, LEAD

scholars had the opportunity to share a remarkable night full of talent and plenty of laughs, showcasing the uniqueness and

creativity of our UCF community.
