Safety Matters! It’s no secret. Slip and falls happen … a lot. And, regardless of how healthy we eat or exercise, a fall can sneak up on us taking our breath away and injuring our pride or possibly worse. Here are a few simple steps you can take that will keep you on your feet. • Use designated walkways rather than walking across lawns which may be uneven or slippery. • Don’t text and walk. There may be a pole or moving object coming right at you. • Use handrails wherever they’re available. • Walk slowly and be cautious of your footing at all times and especially on wet surfaces. Most importantly, always take the safer route even if it’s a few steps or minutes out of your way. Those extra minutes of walking to avoid an area of uncertainty are also good for your heart.

Please Welcome FSC’s New Faces! Please welcome to the campus our new hires:

• Melinda Carlisle - Housekeeping• John Holbrook - Safety Officer• Melissa Holder - Admissions Receptionist• Marianne Keseta - Financial Aid Coordinator• Gary Piazza - Associate Division Chair for Music• Jon Williford - Assistant Swim Coach

New Places and Changes

• Diane Kendall, formerly the administrative assistant for the ROTC department, has returned to the campus as the administrative assistant for the School of Nursing. • Chrissy Zampino, formerly in Admissions, has recently transferred to the Student Solutions Center as the administrative assistant.

Correction

The September edition of the Wright Word incorrectly titled faculty member Miroslava Mintcheva as Visiting Instructor. Dr. Mintcheva is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music.

Benefits Open Enrollment Period is Approaching

As we get ready for the start of a new calendar year, it’s time to think about a very important issue facing all employees; the renewal of their health benefits. November 2-17 marks the open enrollment period for health and life insurance benefits elections for the 2012 plan year. Employees are asked to attend any one of the meeting times below to hear about plan changes, ask questions, or get assistance with forms completion. Even if you are not making any changes to your current benefit package, forms are still required for completion. Full benefits packages will be distrib-uted at the Open Enrollment meetings. The meetings listed below will be held in the Hollis Room and are expected to last only 30 to 45 minutes. No registration is necessary. Tuesday, Nov. 1 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 4:00 p.m. Please note, athletics department and facilities mainte-nance employees will have meeting times scheduled within their departments. There will also be a specially-designated meeting for Spanish-speaking employees. Check with your supervisor for more details.

Employees Offered New Lifecycle Fund We are pleased to add TIAA-CREF’s newest lifecycle fund, the Lifecycle 2055 Fund as an investment choice under the Florida Southern College DC Retirement Plan for eligible participants in the 403(b) Plan. Lifecycle Funds offer a convenient solution for investors who pre-fer to have their retirement investments professionally managed us-ing a strategically developed, disciplined approach. The TIAA-CREF Lifecycle 2055 fund now makes this approach available to our early career employees and other plan participants who may want to al-locate to this fund. TIAA-CREF Lifecycle Funds provide a consistent glide path for asset allocation from initial participation in the funds through retire-ment. At the outset, the Lifecycle 2055 Fund allocates 90 percent of assets to equity and 10 percent to fixed income. By its 2055 target retirement year, the allocation will shift to 50 percent equity and 50 percent fixed income, reaching the final allocation of approximately 40 percent equity and 60 percent fixed income between 2062 and 2065. Please note that if you are being default invested because you have not made an investment selection, and you were born January 1, 1989 or later, your future contributions will be allocated 100% to the TIAA-CREF Lifecycle 2055 Fund. To obtain more information about this new fund, request a pro-spectus or speak with a TIAA-CREF representative please call 800-842-2252. In addition, TIAA-CREF is always available to help educate participants with investment choices and questions. For a No-Fee Financial Checkup, go to www.tiaa-cref.org/myfinancialcheckup to have an experienced TIAA-CREF Financial Consultant contact you to schedule an appointment to go over potential solutions in greater detail.
