INTRODUCTION

In Chicago, there is the Chicago’s Museum Campus. It’s composed of the Shedd

Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium and Soldier Field, all tied together by

green space.

You’re going to watch a video on the Shedd Aquarium. It’s one of the premier

aquariums in the USA and home to an impressive collection of underwater life.

SECOND VIEWING

Watch the video again and decide if the following statements are true (T) or

false (F):

THIRD VIEWING

To the teacher: Elicit some regular verbs in the past tense, and ask students to

decide if the pronunciation of those verbs is the same or different. Write the verbs on

the board, in the correct column. Explain that the “-ed” ending of verbs in the past /

past participle forms has three pronunciations: / /, / / or / /. Drill them. Hand in the

video script to the students and ask them to watch the video again to find out

examples of the different pronunciations of “-ed”.

Watch the video once more, underline the regular verbs on the script sheet you

received and decide if the “-ed” ending of these verbs are pronounced / /, / / or /

/. Could you find all the three types? Note that some words ending in “–ed” are not

verbs; they are adjectives: e.g. – improved lighting.

1. When the pronunciation of the infinitive ends in a vowel or voiced consonant, the
