Scalable

With Object Storage, you scale how, when and where needed with practically infinite

capacity. This makes it ideal for archiving and backing up massive quantities of data

and storing large public or private data sets like online files and media.

Resilient

Peak 10 uses erasure coding to provide the redundancy needed to protect your data

against failures, such as disk array failure, in a cost-efficient way. Data is parsed into

smaller fragments that are encoded with redundant data pieces and stored across

multiple Peak 10 enterprise-class data centers, giving Object Storage its self-healing

capability. Distributing copies of data across storage nodes provides a measure of

data protection; distributing them geographically enhances business continuity and

scale for cloud-enabled applications. Object Storage makes data available via an

HTTPS interface. It can be accessed from any device. Object Storage is backed by Peak

10’s industry-leading SLA, offering 99.999% availability.

Accessed through a REST API via the Internet, Peak 10 Object Storage does not

require hardware modifications to your servers, and it is compatible with Amazon

S3 API. The storage solution’s Internet accessibility also means that if you have an

on-premise IT environment, you can point it to Peak 10 Object Storage to enable a

hybrid IT environment.

Unlike traditional storage systems, Object Storage uses variable-sized data

containers, known as objects, instead of files.

Objects are stored in containers in a flat address space called a storage pool. A

unique object ID — a digital fingerprint — is created for each object, simplifying

access to your data compared to the retrieval processes associated with

traditional file systems. Not bound by a hierarchical structure, Object Storage

can grow the number of object IDs contained almost limitlessly, improving your

business’s performance and enabling you to scale quickly.

Objects also contain metadata supplied by users or the application. The

attributes can be used to store information on key characteristics, making it

easy to query the objects. With this higher level information, Object Storage

can provide additional functionality, such as lifecycle management and efficient

data retrieval, as well as improved reliability.

For resiliency, objects created on one node are erasure coded or replicated

across multiple geographically dispersed data centers. If one node fails, the

data can still be made available.
