Kathleen McKenna (Dillon) A gracious lady, a respected teacher, a woman of strong faith and personal discipline, Kathleen McKenna, in her 97th year, entered into rest at Providence Manor on February 15, 2003. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Rod, children Bill and Monica, grandchildren Peter and Gary, great grandson Charlie, parents Frances and Michael, siblings Monica, Sr. Mary Francis of Assisi SP, Hubert, Stella and Michael. Kathleen was born and raised in Enterprise, Ontario, attended Notre Dame Convent in Kingston and Normal School in North Bay. In 1926, Kathleen commenced her Wolfe Island teaching career at S.S. #1 School and soon after began a life long career when she married Rod McKenna in 1930. They raised and educated eight children in this community and were marvelous role models. Their constant love and support for family was always evident. Kathleen returned to teaching when their youngest child started to school. During this time she accepted the principalship of the new Sacred Heart School in Marysville on Wolfe Island. Her teaching career continued until her retirement in 1971. The following year she had the privilege of laying the cornerstone for the present expanded Sacred Heart School. Kathleen always sought the best in her students, encouraged them and expected them to reach their potential. Kathleen was a leader in the Church. For many years she prepared students for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Confirmation as well as helping to organize many parish events. She was an active member of the Catholic Women's League (CWL) for over 60 years. Kathleen's gentle inviting manner, her optimistic view on life, quick wit and sense of humour were witnessed by her family and everyone who knew her. One of Kathleen's favorite pastimes was a game of euchre or rummy and she excelled at both. The supreme test for her grandchildren was to become the winner. Parish and community euchre games were a must and she often brought home first prize. Many hours were spent making quilts and colourful afghans that her children and grandchildren continue to cherish. Valuing her independence, she drove her own car, the maroon New Yorker, until she was 88 when her sight dictated the need fora chauffeur. Following Rod's death in 1988 Kathleen continued to live at the family homestead, however, as her twilight years

approached she relocated to Providence Manor with daily family visits. Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated at SacredHeart Church, Wolfe Island with burial following in the parish cemetery. Many of Kathleen's grandsons, granddaughters and great grandchildren acted as pallbearers, honorary pallbearers and readers. Kathleen left a legacy of love to be continued through her family, Mary (Don) MacDonald, Helen (George) Vasko, Alice McKenna, Rod (Lois), Hugh (Carol), Gerard Forestell, Mitch (Jane), Donna (Ed) Siville, 22 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, Mary Dillon and numerous nieces and nephews 3/15/2003- ID1490266 - Kingston Whig Standard Obituaries>> DeathsKOLACZEK, Rudolph Retired Alcan Employee At the Kingston General Hospital, surrounded by his family, on Monday, March 17, 2003 in his 92nd year.
