Head’s Introduction

Dear Parents, This week marks the first duties of our newly appointed School Knights, Captains and Standard Bearers. I had my first meeting with our new School Knights, Raphy and Olivia, on Wednesday and I know they will do a tremendous job over the next year. They introduced themselves to the whole school in assembly this morning. By now, I hope you will have read the letter from our Chair of Governors, Mr Andrew Pianca, about Senior appointments made for next year. It is an exciting time for the school and a lot of preparations are taking place at the moment to make the official launch of Roedean Moira House in September a success for the girls. Next Tuesday, our Year 9 girls will attend the Big Futures Show at the Eastbourne Sports Park. This is a fantastic Careers Fair that introduces girls to the world of work. Please encourage your daughter to make the most of the event by discussing it with her in advance. I hope you get to enjoy the warm weather this weekend. Boarders Enjoying Eating Alfresco

With the cold dark winter fading into distant memory we decided to

celebrate the onset of Spring with a picnic on the lawn! Our boarding

girls enjoyed the early spring sunshine lazing on blanketed grass eating

delights such as chicken and mango salad, marinated feta cheese with

olives and cherry tomatoes, a rainbow tomato salad, minty yogurt with

pitta bread and finished off with a summer cherry pie and lemonade.

Ian Sperling - Tyler

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of one of our

former governors and current parent, Mr Ian Sperling -Tyler.

Ian was a Governor for Moira House for 2 years from 2016 until 2018

and his hard work and commitment to the school remain his legacy to

our community. We know he touched the lives of many of our

community members and we are grateful to have known him. Our

thoughts are with his beloved family at this very sad time.

D.E.A.R.

Drop Everything and Read. Every Thursday throughout our school there is a hush and the quiet murmur of turning pages. From shared reading in Pre-Prep to the calmness of the library for the sixth form, everyone starts their Thursday with a good book. The perfect start to a day.

Pre Prep News

The Pre-Prep are enjoying the sunshine and have been exploring our site to see the changes that Spring has brought. Year 1 went on a walk to look at the daffodil bulbs that Alice had planted in Gardening club in Term One. We discussed how these had grown into daffodils and the changes that may have happened. We then looked at a range of different seeds and planted sunflower and cress seeds. Reception and Year 2 are also looking forward to learning about planting and growing this term.

Unsung Heroes

Many wonderful things happen at Roedean

Moira House each week, about which many

are perhaps unaware. This section is dedicated

to the ‘unsung heroes’, in order to draw our

attention to these people and to remind us

that our community is special.

Klara Schrabauer and Blanche Angliviel for making such a positive start to their short stay experience.

Talah Loughland and Sophie Stevens for their compassion and care for other pupils.

Gigi Leung for always being so helpful and kind in the boarding house.

Georgia Harris-Moss for an

outstanding series of

PowerPoints on her GCSE

Latin Literature set texts.

Tia-Lana Chinapyel for working really hard in Spanish.

Trinity Talkington for

adapting so well to the Y9

GCSE music class after joining

a term late and doing some

excellent performances over

the year, without fuss or ego.

Rachel Sekibo for being a

calming and positive

influence in Year 13.

A model student.

Pyramid Fun With Felt

With the Summer Term activity programme not due to start until next week, the girls from Reception right through to Sixth Form, were treated instead to some really lovely sessions of "felt and craft" these past few days. The girls were each given an individual piece of felt to decorate and much like a jigsaw, the pieces will be stitched together to create a larger pyramid flag which can be displayed with pride. This lovely concept - courtesy of newly appointed Charity and Pyramid Captain - Abbie Ring, was introduced to the girls to show that they each are a special member of a larger community group. The flags will be something they can look back on with fond memories as they move through the school. A huge thanks to Abbie, who spent a great deal of her Easter holidays planning and resourcing this special event in order to make the sessions such a success.

Gabriela’s Easter Tennis Break

Gabriela played The Tunbridge Wells Open Grade 3 in two categories: 10 & U and 9 & U, reaching the quarter finals in her first ever Grade 3 10 & U and the finals in the 9 & U. The following week she competed at Hassocks in The Weald Open Grade 3. Gabriela won every match in the 10 & U until the quarter finals where unfortunately she had to pull out due to a minor injury. Two days later she won the 9 & U event losing only one set in 6 matches. Gabriela has also been selected to train at the National Tennis Centre with the 12 & U girls Regional Squad. Well done Gabriela, we are so proud of you. Keep up the great work.

Tennis Round Up

U16 Sussex Tennis Tournament at Bede’s, Upper Dicker. The most wonderful weather for the tennis tournament and some wonderful matches and shots to go with it from all girls. Team members were Stephanie Vieira, Amelia Devlin, Lana Harffey-Burkhill and Daisy Williams. In our section, we won all three games coming top which put us into the quarter finals against Ardingly. A win at this stage then put us into the semi finals against Eastbourne College A team. Although we lost at this point, it was a close match and the girls did brilliantly. Overall we were third as the team that was also dropped after the semi's was a team we had beaten in the first round. As a bonus, there was also a touch tennis competition running and our girls won this event.

Dancing Scholars’ Success

Over the Easter Sian & Carys Clarke in Year 9 competed in The Sussex Dance Festival performing solos, duets & trios. Between them they were awarded 5 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 5 bronze medals. Their trios & duets were performed with Emma Walker, Darcie Bennett & Ellie Mizen. Well done girls we are so proud of you all.

Sian and Carys Clarke have also been successful in gaining a place for their 2nd year running with the Tap Attack Company. We wish you lots of luck girls.

Please note that there is no swimming gala on Tuesday 24 April as stated in the white book.
