A Message from Mrs. Lynch
What a fantastic week it has been at Oak Trace! The PTO has completely spoiled the staff and we are so incredibly thankful! We enjoyed the week which was full of delicious lunches, flowers, a coffee Barista, and the fantastic breakfast cart! Thank you for making us feel special. I know that I can speak for all of the Oak Trace staff when I say that we are the lucky ones. We all love being here with your children each day.
The most fantastic part of our week, however, was watching our students raise money for Jar Wars to support various charities: Lemmon Elementary playground, Cystic Fibrosis, Love Project; Leukemia Association; and Relay for Life.
Our boys and girls have had so much fun roller-skating in PE!!! Special thanks to Mrs. Grimmer for organizing this fun activity!
You will be receiving a School Messenger reminder to go into PowerSchool to update your demographics. This is a very easy thing to do and something that is incredibly important. In an emergency, it’s imperative that we know how to get in touch with you.
You may also still submit letters with your child’s learning style for classroom placement for 2017-2018.
We recognized all of our volunteers at the annual volunteer reception on Wednesday.
Thank you for all you do to support Oak Trace whether it is helping with small groups,
making copies, or helping with our fabulous PTO. We appreciate all you do!
Have a great weekend!

lookout for portfolios to be sent home with all of our stu-

Well the testing season is almost over! Congrats to both 3rd and 4th graders as
they finished up taking the ISTEP+ state testing this week. They all did a fantastic
job focusing and showing the state their Personal Best! We are very proud of their
efforts as I'm sure you are too. The final testing we have is our spring NWEA test-
ing. All grades will begin at different times during the window, but we do start
testing on Monday May 8th. If you have questions on the dates your child will be
testing please contact your child's teacher. Please try and make any appointments
for after school times. Wishing for plenty of sunshine this weekend!

This week in digital citizenship most classes put all of the coding skills they have learned the past month to
work coding their own version of popular games. 1st and 2nd grade coded their own version of Flappy Birds.
3rd and 4th grade were able to choose what game they coded from Flappy Birds, Minecraft, Star Wars, and a
few others. It was fun to see what students came up with when they put together all the different coding skills
we have been working on the past month!
A few 3rd and 4th grade classes met outside of the lab this week while ISTEP testing finished up. In those
classes we had a group robotics challenge. Students worked in small groups creating a maze, with at least one
loop, three turns, and two codes, that two Ozobots could follow without crashing into each other. They did a
great job with this challenge!
Next week we will take a pause from out robotics and coding work to complete the end of the year Ready
Math testing.
Sincerely,
Miss Foltz

Get ready for a fun and exciting week in the Oak Trace Library! Our final Book Fair of this
school year begins on Monday, May 8th with all students coming down to create a "Wish
List" of books they are interested in! They should bring this list home to you and share
what they have found, that interests them, at our Book Fair! On Tuesday, May 9th, the
Book Fair will open for business! Each class can purchase items from the Book Fair during
their regularly scheduled library time! Please try to send in money on the day that they can buy at the Book Fair! And, I need to make sure I limit the number of times they
come down! (Some students dig in the couch cushions, look in pockets, and empty
their piggy bank and find more and more change to come down and TRY to purchase
something ALMOST EVERY DAY! If they are absent, of course they may come down an-
other time, but just coming down to browse and browse (especially all that "stuff" at the
circulation desk) wastes a lot of classroom time!
The Book Fair ends at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 15th!
"Family Night" is on Tuesday, May 9th until 6:30 p.m. Students must be accompanied by an
adult during this time. This is a great time to pick up some awesome summer reading for
your kiddos! Remember, the money that we earn, through our Book Fairs, goes towards
some amazing programs that your students get to enjoy! We were so lucky to welcome
TWO VISITING AUTHORS this year! Troy Cummings and Kate Klise were so awesome and
we all enjoyed their time at Oak Trace so much! Your support of our Book Fair helps fund
these special enrichment programs!
Lastly, please know that there is no tax on the Book Fair items and
all checks can be make payable to OTES PTO! Looking forward
to seeing many of you next week!
Happy Reading!

We are excited to announce online demographic updates for the upcoming 2017-2018
school year will be available May 10, 2017!
You will use the PowerSchool Parent Portal to access the InfoSnap Registration.
This process is REQUIRED for EVERY student. This enables the district to maintain
current medical and emergency information as well as give students access to field
trips, and technology.
